Bernadette! I'm usually too lazy to write comments on youtube but this time I feel I really should. I've been learning how to play ukulele for 6 years (learning, then leaving it for a couple of months and coming back again) but now I discovered your channel and this uke challenge and I feel I've learnt more during last weeks than during these 6 years without you! I'm honestly so glad! I've really wanted to get involved in playing and with you it's just so easy! :)

Crazy chance you have a playlist that has your song tutorials in order of difficulty - Level 1 (2 or 3 chords - easy keys / easy chords), Level 2 (adding in minor chord changes for color...), Level 3 - (more chords and difficult rhythms), etc. I grew up studying classical piano so I pretty well ran through your 30 day challenge in about 5 days... where I have learned the most is from just slowing down the playback speed on your videos and trying to play along - especially the ones that show the chord chart to the side so I don't have to cross check them on a separate tab... ( I LOVE that feature on your newer videos... sooooo helpful!!)
I'm so excited! I got it all! Got the island strum down! Funny how trying to add the Chuck suddenly feels like I have cement mittens and fog brain... 🤔 Back to slow down...

Thank you, Bernadette, for always avoiding to say left/right hand. It really means a lot to me. I’m a lefty and I’m fed up with converting left to right and right to left following instructions, whether for playing the uke, tying knots, or doing embroidery.
Do we start the strum pattern over again each time we switch chords? Yes, I would have like to see a full written version of the strum pattern for the whole song. Would really be helpful.

I need to practice and practice. I always get lost in the strumming patterns. I can play C and Am and then boom my hand gets confused and I lose it. It is still very challenging.

I got the Island strum down while singing with "Have You Ever Seen The Rain." So I decided to give the chuck version a go. Oof it's hard.
I was reading through the comments and I saw you say it's just like the Island strum but with two chucks instead, and that made it a little easier, but I can't get the last Up strum after the second chuck. Or I get it, but can't get back into the down strum in rhythm.
I shall persevere though! 25 days ago I could barely strum a simple C chord.

Lol.....Just noticed for the homework, we’re suppose to perform this song....and charge lots of $money for it. AARRGG this is tough, since I can't look at the words, sing, do ISLAND STRUM, and keep that going with the chord changes, F to G7 is difficult. But.... I love your tutorials, learning so much, even though it takes me some time to GET IT. I'm 70 and learning Uke for the first time, and I am getting calluses, and it hurts but not giving up. THank you for this.

Holy Chucking! Repeating this one. I have slowed it down to about 30 bpm to get the pattern so I can include the Chuck and I fall out about every fourth round, sync back up on sixth, and repeat. 😥. I think I'm sweating.

Go much slower and try to sing and play using down strums at first. Get very comfortable with down strums and then add some patterns

I loved this tutorial!! But I find it very difficult to strum with 2 chucks so I just use the island strum with 1 chuck for now...
I'm finally "getting" the Island strum. I have no idea how to match the singing to the strumming. Please, please, please update to include the singing for the entire verse and chorus. I can move through the chords fine. It's just matching the singing that is not clicking for me. HELP, please.

Getting better at singing with a strum pattern. It's a massive improvement from when I started (at that point I couldn't do it at all!), but it's definitely still a weak point for me. Gonna take a little while before I can do this with the chuck in the pattern, but this, Have You Ever Seen the Rain, and Summertime are giving me a good workout and seem to be pushing me to improve without getting complacent at doing just one pattern.
The chucking messes my strumming up haha

Loving this 30 day challenge you've done! I am learning loads and loads! Especially thankful for the downloadable info. I need to change keys and really only doing that by ear (which is not terribly dependable in my case! LOL). Question for you on the Enya you're using in this video. Do you have the strings on it that it came with or did you change them out? I'm seriously considering getting an Enya! I think I'm becoming a ukulele collector more than a player. heehee No seriously, I play at least 15 mins every day and learning so much from your videos. Thank you again!!

Hello there, having a hard time getting the correct rhythm for the chuck strum. It doesn't sounds the same when I do DXU UXU. What am I doing wrong? Any suggestions?

@@leapadron8556 Hi Lea, one tip is to slow the video down. Use the 'settings' icon on the lower right side of the screen. It will be easier to keep in time with Ms. B as she demonstrates the strum. There are a LOT of different approaches to the 'chuck'. Different teachers show different techniques to accomplish basically the same thing. I sometimes find it useful to try them ALL in order to find the one that works best for me. With my most profound apologies to Ms Bernadette, (though I doubt she will be offended), try the Cynthia Lin Music channel, One Music School channel, the Ukulele Teacher channel, AllForUke channel, Rock Class 101 channel, Ten Thumbs Productions channel, Uke Like the Pros channel, Ukulele Cheats... We are blessed with a wide variety of really great resources in ukulele instruction. I hope you find these suggestions helpful.
I did prepared this song and went to the park and performed in different spots and I got a couple coins. I added Imagine since I have been playing it for few weeks as well 😂 since I know I am a horrible singer I can understand they actually paid me to shut up

Lau VaBer the strum with the chuck is exactly like the island strum. We just replaced two of the down strums with chucks.
Several other people are having a hard time with this, so I think I will dedicate a video to it 💛
