    One of the messed up things about the "seizure episode", is that the sequence with the flashing lights was actually caused by Pikachu, but the entire Porygon family were the ones that got banned from the anime. Porygon had a few, very brief, cameos, and the only appearances Porygon-2 and Porygon-Z ever got were a blink-and-you-miss it cameo in one movie for barely a second.
    There's so, so many creatures from Japanese folklore that could be covered. One that comes to mind is the inspiration for Misdreavus that's a woman's head that comes off her body and floats around the house at night.

      @JonSolo  Před měsícem +16

      I was thinking that too. I would imagine creating the scene wouldn't be risky, just going frame by frame and changing the color wouldn't trigger anything... but they obviously had to watch it at least once in real-time before they gave it the final stamp of approval, right? you'd think someone would have been triggered or at least felt like their eyes were gonna blow up like mine did.

    • @PatrickRsGhost
      @PatrickRsGhost Před měsícem +4

      I was thinking that when listening to the different ways it's pronounced. Just about every language spoken by millions of people out there has different dialects; the way the language instructors (both human and electronic) pronounce the word is just one way of pronouncing it.
      Look at the English language. You have different dialects from each country that speaks it, not to mention certain terms found only in certain countries or regions of that country. For example, the rear storage of a car is called a "trunk" in the U.S., but it's called "boot" in the U.K. Likewise, the part that covers the engine is called a "hood" in the U.S., but "bonnet" in the U.K.

    • @robinkholmes7127
      @robinkholmes7127 Před měsícem +3

      That's the thing with a lot of older nations, travel used to be a lot harder so dialects, especially in Europe popped up naturally, often sounding like completely separate languages.

      "Kitsune" is not Japanese script, it's Latin. All you have to do is stop calling 700 000 000 people "non-Americans" because to you they're jsut avocado-picking animals, and learn the LATIN pronunciation. That people were kind enough to transcript Japanese words INTO, including 狐.
      It jsut seems like a lot of effort dedicated TO being lazy. You seem federally hell-bent on treating Latin script as footnote to what it means to live on this continent, and instead create a divide unlike anything seen in Africa or Asia. Where "American" is a privilege only to federal subjects, while IMPERIAL subjects harvest your food without the protection of labor laws YOU could be voting for. And they cannot, because USA doesn't even uphold fair cross-national trade treaties. They have some sort of FAKE American rights for fake Latin America, because they don't swear fealty to ONE federal empire. That can't even pronounce how its words are written.
      Starting with the fact, that English never was successful in inventing a written form so now you have to play games wriiting "keet-soo-nay" or "keat-snoo" or whahtever, pretend THOSE ones are the "more accurate" depiction. Because YOU KNOW that "kitsune" already utterly fails to replicate the sounds you pretend to understand through these written forms.

  • @raikazuchi
    @raikazuchi Před měsícem +54

    FINALLY, another yōkai! 🙌🏽
    Something else to remember, Japanese doesn't necessarily do plural nouns in the same way English does. So one kitsune, two kitsune, many kitsune. Just like our words for deer and moose. But the pronunciation is definitely something western speakers seem to struggle with, so I wouldn't worry about it as long as you try your best and don't go way off the rails and do something like say kamikaze "came-y kays." Yes, I've heard someone say that.

    Maintaining the same pronunciation of the same word among different languages and regions is almost impossible, because how it's pronounced in its language of origin won't always accommodate another accent. If you listen to how English words are pronounced in Japanese, they'll basically never end on a consonant sound. Even the official pronunciations of English words are different in American, British and Australian. And I'm sure "kitsune" would sound a little different if you heard it in say an Osaka accent. I'd say the most important thing is to just do your best, but not get too hung up on the nuance.

    I enjoy your content. It is always evolving. I am partial to the kitsune because it is in my kidos' favorite video game Over Watch. We all cosplayed for their 20th birthday. I dressed as Kiriko. She has a kitsune as part of her character. I even crocheted an amigarumi for a gift with one tail only. Ha ha ha. It was a blast😊 thanks again.

      as a dedicated Okami enjoyer.......BRO WOULD HAVE TO MAKE A 2 HOUR VIDEO.
      Okami does what Jon does.......but covers FAAAAAAAAAAR MORE.
      there's Kamaitachi.....the red and blue ogres......the story of Princess Kaguya and Hitomi......the story of Issun and explaining how they handled the story of Susanoo-o and Orochi.....the Brush gods showing up as mostly signs of the Zodiac (with the exception of the Tiger and the Cat)........the scrolls possibly being a reference to itamomen and so on.
      Okami is a who's who of Yokai and Japanese Stories.
      it would take him FOREVER to deep dive into it. Not saying it cant be done........just wanted to point out it would take forever.

    There are a bunch of vengeful and malevolent spirits you could do videos on, Kuchisake-onna and Yuki-Onna are both pretty interesting. That Netflix series Blue Eye Samurai references an Onryo which is another type of Japanese Demon Spirit. You have a mountain of Yokai lore to pull from for videos, of course the logical thing to do is make a Kappa or Tengu video after doing Tanuki and Kitsune.

    I got the impression that it was "keets-ə-neh," with emphasis on the first syllable and the schwa sound in the middle de-emphasized. And I can _probably_ at least _somewhat_ guesswork "Ryōiki," but I'd probably mangle it.
    And there are similar spirit fox entities in other Asian folklores. The Korean gumiho and Chinese huli jing spring to mind, for example.
