I'm more interested in the T-shirt. Which it seems their is no link too.
Could you do a "Messed Up Mythology of Apis" if you haven't already?
when is the next percy jackson video?
I wait for your videos. Your content is interesting especially because you come back and correct things. Just Saying
Can you do the messed up origin of Jim Hensen's Labyrinth? Please 🥺
archeologist here... you do a dam fine job with mythology! Thank you ❤
That's really cool to know. 😊
archaeologist*
And I'm Pharaoh of Egypt
@@vanghang7825 hello majesty
I wish my uncle would dominate me😮💨
".....and remember, Jon shot his 'Venom' first" 😅
Perfect...Flawless Victory.
Jonsolo is one of my favorites youtubers on mythology and stories telling
I already know about raw
@@callmethecommentcountess9329Uh, dude, I think you may want to start by spelling Ra's name right.
Unless it's autocorrect, then ignore me.
Real
Yes
Mine too
The art pieces from "Smite" are alwaysa delight in your Egyptian Mythology vids...
Smite really has the best visual depictions of the Egyptian Gods...
Just because of this comment I’m going to remember the Willie Wonka thing forever
what do you guys mean i dont understand who's smite
@@wolftaro950It's a game that features the deities of numerous cultures fighting.
I came here to say the same thing. I love seeing the Smite artwork
@@TheManaArt i love the trailers of smite with bellona. A goddess i wouldnt be familiar with without the game so there is that.
Imagine watching that Willy Wonka experience intro in a few years being all confused
The Kane Chronicles did a great job simplifying the differences, using reincarnation to explain how Horus was both a child of Nut & Isis. I’ve had thoughts of making a screenplay about Horus’ accession- animated and told in a Game of thrones style.
I read that book.
I've had the exact same idea, although my thought was to make a book instead of a screenplay. Mythology in general has a lot of great potential for Game of Thrones esque stories, but unfortunately for Egyptian mythology, the closest we have is that God awful God's of Egypt movie.
Set deserves his own video!
Agreed we need a Playlist on egyptian gods there are so many
Now we need the messed up origins of the Unknown lol
Imagine him uploading this video in April fools😂😂
Well...who knew that "salty lettuce" would be a new fear of mine.
😂
😂😂😂 I'm never gonna get over the video of the kids being petrified crying "noooo" in unison when The Unknown appears... Worse it sounds like Ender not Unknown 😂😂😂
It'd be interesting if both versions of Horus were actually related (like an uncle and nephew who have the same name); not just the younger being a reinvention going by the same name. Those were easily the most creative phrases to avoid demonetization.
Getting a tattoo of Egyptian mythological figures then not making vids on it for a while... Couldn't be me
Great video! Excited for that Celtic one next week
Legends say Horus was once given the title of Warmaster and lead a heresy against his father .
Killing his brother was the worst
That's yougEST Horus, he hasn't happened in the timeline yet. We got a while.
Also the war between hours and set are a metaphor of the fight to united Egypt into a single country, given the fact set was the man god of lower Egypt, and horus "the elder" was the main god of upper egypt ,so when northern kingdom beat the Southern Kingdom to make one Egypt the myths followed horus rose up set fell down
You should dive more into the Syncritism of Egyptian and Greek gods. There are some good pieces of historie tied to it as well as the explanation pinned by the Greeks for the Egyptian’s “Furry” worship.
You can even tie in that historical battle where the invading army wielded cats for defense.
In one myth recounted by Herodotus, Amun's son Khonsu wanted to know what his father looked like. Amun, reluctant to reveal himself even to his own son, devised a plan to satisfy Khonsu's curiosity. Amun decapitated a ram and presented himself to Khonsu bearing the skull in front of his own head to maintain his secrecy xD
The thought of them using a giant hippo pinata makes me smile
This exploration of Horus mythology is fascinating. With clarity and depth, this film unravels the tale of Horus, illuminating the complexity of Egyptian mythology. Truly an enthralling investigation!
I love seeing videos from this man, very educational and entertaining to watch
Been waiting on Horus for a minute. I can't wait to see more Egyptian content. Praise Horus!!!
Forever grateful for all the time you spend on all of these videos for us!
Certain pieces of information, that appear to be unknown or omitted make it fit together perfectly.
Your videos are always fun and informative. Thank you for making them!
Very interesting material, love how you break down different story variations 😊
I was hoping to see more Egyptian mythology! ❤❤
Once you go Egypt there's no turning back. 😅
indeed@@hackman669
Fantastic video, the artwork and professional editing are really next level! This origin story is WILD though!
I really appreciate how much work you put into these videos. I watch all of your videos because I love them 😍
Thank you for this one I've been wanting learn about this
I've been waiting for this one. Salutations, Jon!
One of my favorite ways of learning! I love these videos they help me learn while having some fun.
Me too
You never fail to deliver an amazing episode! ❤❤❤
A new Messed Up Episode is always exciting, but even moreso when it's ancient egypt ❤ keep up the good work Jon! Looking forward to getting my Hel and Hades sweatshirts on payday
Thank you for your videos and this sponsor. i JUST GOT OVER SOMEONE AND REALLY NEEDED your videos.
Good episode. I've always liked stories about different gods from different cultures and the way you talk about them can't be beat. You've made several videos about mythologies from many cultures, but there are some I find interesting that I've never seen you mention. Recently, I've been watching different Chinese movies and I'm finding a lot of the mythologies from Chinese culture fascinating. The one I like the most currently is the story of Sun Wukong aka The Monkey King. If you could make a video about him, that would be awesome. If not, it's fine. I'm sure you are busy with other projects. I just thought I would suggest a story that I thought your viewers might find interesting. Thanks for reading.
This was super fascinating episode, when are you going to make one about the true origins of the surfs please ???
This was a great one 👏👏
Always interesting and entertaining 👌🏽
Can u do one on Mami Wata? It's a lot of talk about her now. Scary, controversial and interesting
Love ur vids
Great job Jon.
Jon delivers again
Great video per usual.
Yayy a new vid
oh damn i got in so fast that it told me video was unavailable after playing 5 seconds. 😫
so psyched i found your channel a few years ago! your research is really impressive and your dry, sarcastic delivery is super engaging; some of your one-liners have legit made me spit coffee. keep it up!
(edit to add: your shameless pupper bait doesn't hurt either... I adore Gunther's little smooshface! 😍)
I've studied so many cultures, myths and divinities and Egypt is easily one of the most. If not the most complex, varied, and multifaceted of them all. It's hard to explain to people how complicated it is, but I think you did a really good job
Hey jonsolo, have you ever done any Inuit mythology/ folklore?
Maybe you could do a video on Best/Bestet from Egyptian Mythology at some point. It could go well.
😂😂😂😂 I was delighted to watch this video. Very entertaining as usual. A video explaining the difference between the symbolic meaning and differences of the eye of Ra and the eye of Horus would be interesting as well. You already explained some of it with your video about Ra’s daughter Sekhmet , the destroyer who he renamed Hathor.
Thanks Jon Awesome👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
I can’t remember if you did a Bastet/Sekhmet video or not but I would appreciate it!!
Oh Bastet please!!
I second that! I love cats, it would be a purrrrfect video. 😂 I will see myself out now. 😅
Jon I hope you cover Khonshu the Egyptian god of the moon
Jon when you took the image from old Egyptian, and then the new AI looking image, the first one was Ra which was shown by the Sun disk on his head and the second one was Horus
I love the tattoo Jon!
“Keep in mind that I’m not an expert”
So modest. We all are aware of your pristine qualifications. How else would a man be able to bestow all of this ancient knowledge onto the masses?
All seriousness, l love the channel. Long time viewer. Keep up the hard work!
Can you do a video on sobek's story? Also if you can also do Bastet's as well
ah yes good old Horus... the black flame dragon. I could not stop myself from making that joke a great video as always.
Great retelling. I’ve always wondered why Set is associated with chaos and disorder rather than just unbridled aggression. I think of chaos as being unpredictable and it was Horus who seems more unpredictable without the guidance of his mother Isis. If anything, Horus comes off as more of a trickster who overcomes a more powerful rival, not unlike other deities in Africa. It makes me wonder if the ancient Egyptians themselves saw Set as chaotic or if that is an outside interpretation.
@JonSolo have you done one on Anubis? I’d love to watch that one. He’s my favorite Egyptian God
I'd like to see a video on Nekhbet, the vulture goddess.
Egyptian mythology takes sisterwives to a whole new level
I have an eye of ra tattoo along with many other egyptain symbols and I had no idea drake had one time to schedule a removal (judt kidding)
Isis. I think it would be awesome to cover her next and maybe we all can learn more about her 🎉
I was just for a video rest of origins of the metaphor 4:58 tour, Menor
Interesting facts about Horus, but can you please do more videos about mythological or forktale monsters please 🙏
I hope you both enjoyed your well deserved vacation. I'm a long time fan of yours. I rarely comment. Ra had a son named Shu. My middle name is Shu-Shu, it's Souix .I would love to know more about Shu please. Thank you for doing this channel, I've shared and shown a few people who are now fans also. I always knew "Jon shot first"😊
If you could do a deep dive on the scorpion goddess Serket/Selket/Serquet, that would be awesome.
May be one of the grossest stories to date, but thank you for diving in. Always appreciate it!
I wear an Eye of Horus a lot- love it, and loved this telling of his story…. Personally I prefer Bastet, loyal protector…. Moon Knight also had a very good take on the gods, I’d like to hear your thoughts on that Jon….. (Rick Riordan also covered the Egyptian Gods very well imo…..)
Dueled an "effigy" of a hippopotamus, you say? Then ate a hippo-shaped cake?! Nay, Jon! I decry thee! It must have been the corpus of that very hippo the pharaoh had fought with, sweetened only with the honey of victory!!
Very... interesting episode. Dear goodness.
Would you consider a "Messed-Up Origins of Orcs" (cf. Tolkien) in the future? Thank you always and stay safe!
I don't know anything about Qebsnuf except that he was one of the gods watching over mummies (I think)
Also any goddesses of note. Also also Anubis.
please more Egyptian content and do the god ra next please
How could you make an entire video about Horus and not mention the 2016 movie, Gods of Egypt? It’s such an accurate retelling of his story.
Jon you should get sleeves of different deities.
If there is 1 thing I've learned no fictional historic figure has a child friendly origin.
Good for you
I firmly believe mythology was the fanfic of the past. That's why there are multiple versions of the same stories and the gods were so temperamental and unpredictable.
11:30 🤣🤣🤣🤣
That bit with Drake was SAVAGE I love it!! 🤣🤣🤣
Drake was famous because his ex is famous, for being famous. Does he still have a career?
Never heard of him...
Suggestion, Mr. Solo: Could you please explain the messed-up origins of “A Clockwork Orange” or “I Am Legend”?
I know this is going Beyond the material, but it would be cool if you'd cover the 4th Doctor episode "Pyramids of Mars".
Where Set and Horus are aliens. Sutek is imprisoned on Mars, and Mic Jagger's home is used as the old Priory that sat on the grounds before UNIT HQ.
(The Lovely Elizabeth Sladen played Tom Baker's companion Sarah Jane Smith)
My mans pre-gammed bro's garden with that Hidden Vally Raunch.
Do khonshu next
Speaking of Set, I found, in Wikipedia, the names of his offspring, and one of them had very few references on the site. The name was Maga. I did, however, read John Rogers' PDF that seems to be the source of the information. I was wondering if you have or could find more information about the demon deity (as referred to by J. Rogers), offering of Set? 🖖😎👍
There’s a version of the story where Isis/Eset forced Ra to give Horus/Heru his blessing to be king. She did this by creating a cobra from his own blood (don’t know how she got it) and had it bite him. The only way he could be cured was by Isis, and she wouldn’t help unless he named Horus as king.
You should look into Bastet the cat goddess
Not the suede elbow patches! 🤣😂🤣 I swear ONLY the smartest among us own those. 😅
Out of greek hindu and egypt which one is messed up the most or guss on what source you read
Ma at, and Sekhmet please
16:05 is Akhenaten and his family worshipping the Aten...I'm sure of it. It was a few seconds but the art style looks like in his reign.
Im from Serbia and i like your videos because you once sayd vampires are from Serbia
This is true and you know that
You are a very, vety good CZcamsr😊
Very interesting video, I liked it, but I'm very disturbed by the skeleton in the background !
Just commenting for the algorithm 💛💚
11 herbs and spices? I need that recipe.
So basically elder Horus is not only god of sky but also god of Sun & Moon Thats Awesome.
Wasn't ra mistaken for elder horus at times
@@quintonbrooks7536 nope cuz Ra have a golden disk with a serpent on top his head as a crown.
Heru-ur (Hours the elder): bron of union between Geb (earth) & Nut (sky) he had become first national god & the patron of the Pharaoh.he was called the son of truth.
@@blacknighthawk9129 oh ok thanks
Did you know, Thoth is a Greek rendering? One way it's pronounced is thought. In Greek, it was pronounced that way, too, although many ways are correct. Also, fun fact, if you look up the etymology of the modern English word thought... it comes from Thoth. They sound the same in old Greek and modern English, though. Which is cool. Incidentally, if you want to refer to this god by his Egyptian name it is Djehuty.
Pronounced djih-how-tee. Another fun fact you can sound out Thoth like thee-ow-tee and it is a similar sound. So Djehuty and Thoth sound the same. Language is fun.
Man the Gods of Egypt coulda been a much different movie
It’s interesting to see the complex stories of the gods, when they had no tv.
No binging. No movie collections.
It’s hard to imagine their relationship with stories.
Hey Jon, have you heard of this channel called Bumblebee Elite? They have discussed Ancient Egyptian history over there as well, but a lot of their content seems repeated. At least, to me it does.
Anubis please!
already did! 😏
You missed your calling. You should have been a comic!😂
Please do a video on the mythology, superstitions and stereotypes of redheads!
Sounds like the 12 labors; tests to see if Horus is "worthy" of the throne.
