I don’t care how people may trash this band. When this came out, it was the first music video Metallica had done. They had resisted for years as they didn’t want to “sell out”. This video is art. When this came out, it was so amazingly powerful.

Music videos for TV were still pretty new back then. There was no by-the-book music video as there was no book to follow: they were just experimenting and learning what worked, what didn't.

"Resisted for years" isn't accurate at all. Music videos weren't something they were all that interested in or looking to do at all, until they made One, specifically because they felt they had the opportunity to make something different that stood out amongst all of the cheesy videos MTV were airing at the time.

....And Justice For All is Metallica's darkest, meanest, grittiest album of all. The band was still reeling from the death of their original bassist Cliff Burton in a tour bus accident. They brought all of their grief and their anger with them into the studio and it just exploded during these recording sessions. It's pure catharsis caught on tape. Cliff's ghost was with them and it will forever haunt this album.

The book is such an amazing concept that it's just brilliant. I picked up a brand new edition this year and re-read it so it's fresh in my mind still. It is an amazing read, you'll marvel at how it's put together... but it's a complete downer. And it stays with you a long time afterward. But it's the kind of book everyone should read at least once.

One was the first Metallica song for which a music video was created. The music video, directed by Bill Pope and Michael Salomon, debuted on MTV on January 20, 1989. The video, shot in Long Beach, California on December 7, 1988, is almost entirely in black and white, and features the band performing the song in a warehouse. It features dialogue and several scenes from the 1971 film adaptation of Johnny Got His Gun. Timothy Bottoms can be seen starring as Joe Bonham, the main character in the novel (written by Dalton Trumbo and published in September 1939; the basis for the 1971 film).

i always thought that this song was a bit overrated, like it got 'blown up' by the newer fans. Also idk why they have videos where there is talking over the music, what a terrible idea. Not saying it's a bad song, just saying i liked their previous stuff better. Overall it's a good album, i think the Black Album is a little better too, slower but hits heavier, like 'punchier'. Sometimes 'slower' can be heavier, like on Dio's Rainbow in the Dark, where it slows down, but the drummer is slamming with both hands, boom, ..boom, .
Recommend; Judas Priest Live Vengeance (1982 / Desert Plains) you should see this performance
Also; Whitesnake - Still of the Night (official video, is fine, that way you can see the guitarists) David Coverdale's vocals are off the f'n charts (also, i swear Viv Campbell is in the damn video) although it seems they tried to scrub any existence of him being in the band, apparently.
