Patting people on the shoulder is honestly a good way to make someone feel appreciated. I work with a foreign dude and it’s a bit of a language barrier. He speaks Spanglish, I call him the crazy Cuban, I don’t think he’s even Cuban. Anyways I got anxiety I don’t like being touched by pretty much anyone and I’ll flinch from it. He likes to go in for a handshake and a pat on the shoulder to greet me, took me the longest time to understand that’s just his culture. I just tell my other coworkers good morning and we keep it at that, but crazy Cuban greets me by name everytime with a smile talking bout how happy he is to see me with the shoulder pat. It’s like a men’s version of a damn hug and it makes me feel appreciated.

A "shit test" refers to a situation where someone tries to test your resolve either intentionally or subconsciously. If a guy begins to break down and start DEERing (Defending Excusing Explaining and Rationalizing) why the insult isnt true or matter he fails the test and ends up looking worse than if he didn't acknowledge the insult in the first place. Or playing it off with a cocky/funny routine. As if joking around with the guys. There's some context for you its not referring to literal shit. TLDR: if someone is giving you shit, its better to play it off than to make it a big deal.

The best way to deal with being insulted is to reply with pity, acknowledging their incapacity to show compassion. You may not always be able to shrug it off entirely, though you can most definitely reflect that energy back as opposed to absorb it. If someone does not show compassion, it is actually very freeing, as you now have the freedom to not show that person compassion either. You could decide from that point forward that you will not show them compassion anymore. No need for insult, just decide from that point forward that certain behaviours are trash and treat them as such. No need to be sucked in to a road rage or a workplace mockery or a public embarrassment. Make the decision to reject that person completely and entirely.

Former reformed PUA-forum surfer here, I can explain everything, I assume you took the discussions from the SoSuave forum. First of all in 2010 these techniques actually worked, because it was the pre-tinder era and they were a way of putting yourself out there, most puas were socially awkward guys who needed a push, they weren't evil, psychos or else, but they were good targets for the narcissistic guys who sold their courses to them. Lots of them had psychiatric diagnosis, like high functioning autism, and back then it wasn't cool at all like today, and there was a heavy social stigma and shame related to it Btw, 1. How to respond to the alpha was a necessary technique to know. The AMOG (alpha male of the group, term which created today's "mog") was one of the strong guys in a group full of women, who would have probably been jealous of some of them getting hit on, and would have probably come up with such cringe lines in the attempt to make the PUA look stupid and ruin his chances 2. Shit-Test was basically when a girl doesn't know you, doesn't have a reason to respect you, so she starts insulting you or questioning your value as a man, literally throwing "shit", and you'd pass them by showing that you were unaffected or not an asocial freak 3. Those guys weren't related to looksmaxing at all. They were the so called "redpillers". The looksmaxers originated from the "blackpillers", which were the self-proclaimed "incels" who had their headquarters at the Puahate forum, which was literally a forum used to hate on PUAs, later evolved in s*hate and lookism (all buried forums by now) and were developing parallely to the pua-forums

As somebody who had to learn the hard way how to interact with people in public, I think it's interesting that they are trying to teach them the exact mannerisms of how to react like a human. I can help clear some things up. I fully admit and accept that I am cringe for having this knowledge. When I was going into college I was obsessed with pick-up stuff because I had super low self confidence to the point I read “The Game” (the OG pick up artist book) and took extensive notes in a black notebook (my black book cringe I know). Basically I think in the ‘shit-test’ post they might actually be responding to another post unrelated to addressing the ‘alpha’ but talking about if a girl insults you but the same rules apply if you’re insulted publicly by a dude. A “Target” usually refers to the girl you’re trying to pick up. And a “Shit-Test” is a term pick-up artists use for the concept of a girl trying to push you away by insulting you or intentionally doing things to make you look foolish and Beta. For example, when you approach a girl she might try to brush you off at first as a test to see how you’ll respond to rejection, in the pick up artist world you don’t tell the L you push on and it’s based on the idea that ‘High Value’ aka the ‘hottest girls’ have so many guys approaching them that as a defense mechanism they are standoffish or rude or combative to guys who try to approach them to weed out the weak and by doing a little ‘cat and mouse’ type verbal jab at you they are seeing if you are going to get mad and reveal you’re an asshole or if you cry and walk away or if you can be an “Alpha” and stand your ground and flirt and only after passing several ‘shit-tests’ will she presumably drop her guard enough for you to finally break through the ice and have real conversations or whatever. So a shit test is basically like a girl making a snide remark at your expense when you are interacting with them and basically the rest of the world calls it “banter”. So saying that “you win by pretending you didn’t hear” a snide remark made by the person insulting you in a public/group setting is essentially the idea of not validating what they said and dismissing it or turning it into a win for you rather than a lose. Hopefully that made some sense and again I know I’m cringe, I was too far down the rabbit hole. This has been my TED Talk.

The term isn't used super consistently but my understanding is that a "shit test" is when a woman basically gives you shit to test how you react to it. Basically, if she jabs at you a little, are you going to immediately crumble, freak out, jab back or just let it slide? The motivations of doing this are a huge assumption on the PUA's part, but in practice it does at least give information and (if it's indeed intentional) it's understandable. You want to know if someone is prone to collapsing or freaking out at really minor things, and if they are a total pushover or will actually stand up for themselves. Finding out that someone snaps easily is better to do early on and in a relatively safe setting, rather than in a more dangerous scenario like when you're in a car that they're driving (for example).
As an alpha male myself, any of these returns on insults I could make would send me into a spiral of tears and self regret. Although if it is a shit test, I suppose it would cause me to self reflect.

A "shit test" refers to a situation where someone tries to test your resolve either intentionally or subconsciously. If a guy begins to break down and start DEERing (Defending Excusing Explaining and Rationalizing) why the insult isnt true or matter he fails the test and ends up looking worse than if he didn't acknowledge the insult in the first place. Or playing it off with a cocky/funny routine. As if joking around with the guys. There's some context for you its not referring to literal shit.
TLDR: if someone is giving you shit, its better to play it off than to make it a big deal.

The best way to deal with being insulted is to reply with pity, acknowledging their incapacity to show compassion. You may not always be able to shrug it off entirely, though you can most definitely reflect that energy back as opposed to absorb it. If someone does not show compassion, it is actually very freeing, as you now have the freedom to not show that person compassion either. You could decide from that point forward that you will not show them compassion anymore. No need for insult, just decide from that point forward that certain behaviours are trash and treat them as such. No need to be sucked in to a road rage or a workplace mockery or a public embarrassment. Make the decision to reject that person completely and entirely.
I usually just say "okay" and go about my business, never have I seen a situation where it's more complicated than just ignoring.

Former reformed PUA-forum surfer here, I can explain everything, I assume you took the discussions from the SoSuave forum. First of all in 2010 these techniques actually worked, because it was the pre-tinder era and they were a way of putting yourself out there, most puas were socially awkward guys who needed a push, they weren't evil, psychos or else, but they were good targets for the narcissistic guys who sold their courses to them. I can help clear some things up. I fully admit and accept that I am cringe for having this knowledge. When I was going into college I was obsessed with pick-up stuff because I had super low self confidence to the point I read “The Game” (the OG pick up artist book) and took extensive notes in a black notebook (my black book cringe I know).
Basically I think in the ‘shit-test’ post they might actually be responding to another post unrelated to addressing the ‘alpha’ but talking about if a girl insults you but the same rules apply if you’re insulted publicly by a dude.
A “Target” usually refers to the girl you’re trying to pick up. And a “Shit-Test” is a term pick-up artists use for the concept of a girl trying to push you away by insulting you or intentionally doing things to make you look foolish and Beta. For example, when you approach a girl she might try to brush you off at first as a test to see how you’ll respond to rejection, in the pick up artist world you don’t tell the L you push on and it’s based on the idea that ‘High Value’ aka the ‘hottest girls’ have so many guys approaching them that as a defense mechanism they are standoffish or rude or combative to guys who try to approach them to weed out the weak and by doing a little ‘cat and mouse’ type verbal jab at you they are seeing if you are going to get mad and reveal you’re an asshole or if you cry and walk away or if you can be an “Alpha” and stand your ground and flirt and only after passing several ‘shit-tests’ will she presumably drop her guard enough for you to finally break through the ice and have real conversations or whatever.
So a shit test is basically like a girl making a snide remark at your expense when you are interacting with them and basically the rest of the world calls it “banter”. The term isn't used super consistently but my understanding is that a "shit test" is when a woman basically gives you shit to test how you react to it. Basically, if she jabs at you a little, are you going to immediately crumble, freak out, jab back or just let it slide? The motivations of doing this are a huge assumption on the PUA's part, but in practice it does at least give information and (if it's indeed intentional) it's understandable. You want to know if someone is prone to collapsing or freaking out at really minor things, and if they are a total pushover or will actually stand up for themselves. Finding out that someone snaps easily is better to do early on and in a relatively safe setting, rather than in a more dangerous scenario like when you're in a car that they're driving (for example).
