- If I've learned anything in the past few months it's that life comes at you fast. I went from living in China for nearly 10 years to being banned in the blink of an eye and this is how it happened.

The title had me so worried for moment.
"I feel like I'm in that part of the movie that is usually a montage"... That hit hard :(
I was expecting this to be silly, but I’m glad it wasn’t.... at least not all the way. The bit at the end about “being at peace with moving on really struck a chord...”
I figured it was going to be serious knowing the subject matter and the context, I was actually surprised that there was still some humor in the video.
Hello Alessio, I'm a longtime fans of Mamahuhu. I'm from Indonesia and I have lived and worked in China for the last 8 years. I came back back to Indonesia in the beginning of January for CNY holiday, and then the outbreak hits. And now, 4 months later, just like you, I was "banned" from coming back. Luckily my employer still need me to teach online classes, and I still have one year of contract left. Let's all pray that the pandemic will be over soon and we can go back to our second home, China. Btw it's not easy for me to be back home after being away for a looong time and this "work from home" situation makes it worse. I have a lot of online classes to teach, and a lot of household works to do. Maybe you can explore this side of "isolation life" and "work from home" more and make a sketch out of it. I wish everyone in Mamahuhu health and happiness always. Love you guys!
Heh, when you're back with your family the double duty expectation is real
i live 5 mins from my school and i am still teaching online....haha

Take it! Nature is so good! Much love from Italy 🇮🇹. BTW 25 yrs spent in China were the best of my entire life!
25? Jealous, I only managed 2 and they were the best of my adult life too!
I'm really glad that I decided not to go back to Germany. and just waited here in Shanghai. after 3 months i finally started to work again. I hope you will be welcome back soon. many years ago I enjoyed watching your videos even before I moved to China. hope you keep going best regards
Germany is quite fine now. Toilet paper is there again 👍🏻😂
I feel sorry for you, being stuck in China as a foreigner. Things are only going to continue to get worse for you. Hong Kong is about to be destroyed. It's so sad.
I guess, just don't have an opinion about anything and you'll be fine. Hopefully?
No matter where it's from, Alessio, keep them coming.
Scotland seems like a nice place to get stuck at. Look at the nature😍.
I guess people will always be interested about what's on the other side
True
icyliciousblue Agree, that is human nature when hoping for a better life.
You say that, but you've never been to Glasgow and Aberdeen - it's grim lmao
damn, this hit home...love my country but god do I miss China.
left my dog, my cat, my turtles, friends, my job and a bunch of stuff there, and oh yeah, what's that called....my life?
Same.
I never left China, I kept it real bruh 😌
Loved this. Add the end tugged at my little heart strings
Oh, this isn't as bad as I thought. I thought you meant you were really banned. You can return when the ban is lifted. I got back to China just before foreigners were banned. I did quarantine in Beijing for 18 days.
So are you still in China? They didn't deport you or something? This video has me really confused if it's just a travel ban like every country is doing or if it's worse
@@--..__ I'm in China. I came back on 1st March. I did 18 days in quarantine in my apartment. Now I can go outside if I want to but I mainly stay inside. The ban means foreigners who are currently outside China cannot come back to China right now - even if they already have a visa, e.g. a work visa.
@@--..__ PS. I have a vlog about my quarantine on my YT page.
Final year international student in UofGlasgow. Decided to fly back to Malaysia and got mandatory quarantine for two weeks due to the unsettling herd immunity strategy by the UK govt and PM Boris got infected. Felt surreal in midst of getting quarantined in a hotel now.
For a moment I thought I was playing Death Stranding, nice scenery with a hint of depression.
i played that in lockdown in china. good to get out for a walk.
awwwwwww this video was so calming to watch tho, and the lil babyy at the end!! i giggled at the toilet paper bit lol
I can see you are good filmmaker, like the way it edited, very dense/dark humor to me.
Hey! I’m locked out of Shanghai too. It sucks big time for all of us.
I don't really think that is called Banned... You just need to wait out the period before the border re-open again...
it's part of a joke lol
It's by definition, a ban. A travel ban.
@@TennisGvy Yes, but it's a blanket ban. *He's* not personally banned.
@@TennisGvy There's a big difference between "travel ban" and "banned." Just imagine how many fewer views this video would get with "travel ban" in the title.
bruh it's comedy
I wanna know who is that little cute pie over there ? She literally melted my heart :*
Alessio’s daughter.

Love the Tik Tok bit where you ALSO got pranked.
Really guys, u are just amazing. The usual china-youtubers just repeating the "foreigns not allowed" stuff. and u did just such a piece of art. no better way to deal with this situation.
You still make excellent videos 🙂 and your little listener is adorable. Thanks for the ‘you’ve been quarantined’ idea 😂
I’m in the same boat, in a different island from yours. Left China on 2nd March for important documentation, and now can’t return to my home in Shanghai 😭
High quality production and nice soothing tones. Quite funny as well.
I left one job in China and figured I'd return home to England for a few months before taking another. Then the virus happened. I accepted a job offer back in Shanghai way back in November. The job offer still stands, but we've no idea when it's likely to be possible to move back. It's like your life is on hold.
Same here, my story different i left Wuhan at 19 january , 4 days before lockdown and now im in Laos waiting when China let me in. too much vacation is not good
RichOO No way! I was waiting in Laos to go back to China until the border closed, then I left because the US State Dept told me to get out 3 weeks ago
Jesus Laos doesn't sound like a nice place to be stuck waiting 😅
Much love from Guangzhou guys .i am a long time fan of mamahuhu
I returned about a week before they banned any incoming flights. I don't know if I'm lucky or stupid
I think now u got answer
@@aallen5508 haha, no doubt. incredibly lucky
I can unfortunately relate to all of this 😭 Hoping for better days, too! ❤
Would love to see the other guys and how they're doing too. Hope this ends soon and you can teach us more about drinking or dating culture in China.
nailed that vlog lol
Damn, that is rough.
Hope to see you back here soon as this clears up though.
Aw, bless!
I left China before Chinese New Year and went to Vietnam, but then all flights got cancelled and I had to go back to my home country (Ukraine). Back then I thought the worst thing that could happen was losing the money on plane tickets, but after a while China banned all foreigners from entry. I have to graduate this year, no idea how to do it...
Hope things work out for you.
@@studiomythic thank you for support!
I had the same problem. I left to avoided being in China. I am going through the same stuff as you.
Me too
Nice film. What was this filmed on.
Please keep on being patient and give China a wee bit of time. I used to live in Edinburgh and now in England, I feel you brother. We are all in this together and can’t wait to see you back again. Cheerio X
That was really funny! I’m actually in the same situation.
Same here. I was in Thailand for CNY, and I stayed to try to wait things out. I had a flight booked back to China, but they closed their borders 72 hours before I was scheduled to leave. Now I'm back in the US on lockdown. I can't wait to get back to Asia!
Same goes here, fleq back home on January 19th, had a flight back on February 3rd and i did. Was granted entry at Guangzhou. Went to take the luggage, got grabbed and put through immigration, cancelled my entry and my residence after 8 hours of detention and sent back. Had to go through 16 hours of detention in Thailand and then flight back home. A complete nightmare
Woah! What a nightmare.
Stay safe bro... Wait for you in Shanghai.....
Lovely little lady there.... Bless
you are only a thin line before talking to a ball, like tom hanks did
4 years passed and i have to go back. It was a harsh ban 😢 i still remember those days when i wondered when will i come back
"All we can do now is live" wonderful and wise words :)
You’re with your family, the people who will love you unconditionally. Count your blessings.
This video really hit me hard. I'm IN China right now so it's not being banned, but it's being blocked from another aspect of my life...I'd like to kick you for reopening an old wound but you did it in such a heartfelt way that I have to tell you I loved it...
I'm late to the game watching this. This video was hilarious!
好好陪陪你家人,珍惜身边每个人,疫情会过去,过几个月就可以去中国了
Pretty fun, like always. ;)
加油~
I'm in a similar situation. Even though I have permanent residency in Japan, if I were to leave the country they would not let me enter again until this is over. It sucks, but it looks like you have your adorable daughter with you so I hope this can still somehow be filed under good experiences. :)
I want to get back to Thailand too. Can't. :(
You are allowed only one walk a day?
You're not the only one! I came back home for the CNY for just 2 weeks, then it all started in Wuhan and we started working online so I decided to stay a bit longer. Then it got really bad in China and we still worked online so I thought about coming back to Beijing a bit later. Then I was finally about to book the flight but decided to wait just a few more days. And then suddenly as the virus spread everywhere in Europe, my country closed the borders and all the flights got cancelled. And 2 weeks later China banned all the foreigners. We're still working online but just a few more months and my residence permit will expire, while all of my things are in my flat in China. Will I be able to sign a new contract and renew the residence permit while being outside China? When will I come back to China? Will I still work there? If not, when will I be able to come back to get all of my things? I'm sure those are the questions lots of us are asking now and sadly, no one knows the answers.
Hello, China bans foreigners from entering China to protect Chinese people. Like other countries, this decision is implemented to protect citizens of their own countries, so I believe you can understand. As for your question, I think there may not be a definite answer at present, because the development of the epidemic outside of China has great uncertainty, but I hope the world will get better in any case. (Use Google Translate)
ah, same thing happened to me. looks like I won’t be returning to china. unfortunate, but I hope it will work out in the end.
Same thing happened to me, except my wife is still in China and I'm in Canada. No idea how long this is going to go on for.
welcome back after this bro
Well. Our city Qingdao still remain flights, but I guess mostly are Chinese from abroad. You can look it up. There are 4 city in China has flights from abroad
They're for Chinese nationals only.
That has haunted me. I've been stuck in Thailand since the outbreak . I was in China ten years before that..
@ mamahuhu Thanks. You know, we chat is so good. I had no money left here in Thailand, but I had we chat wallet. My friend sent money straight to my chinese bank that I can also use here ( bank of comm) and I just transferred the equivalent through we chat. It cost me 10 quai to receive 10 000 quai! That's better then Western Union !
I’m also from Scotland, was supposed to leave in August to go live in China for a year to be an ESL teacher. In a way I’m glad, I don’t see this situation improving here anytime soon and I’d rather be here with family but there’s a part of me that’s gutted I’ve missed out on it.
There’s always after the rona.
Seeing the last two videos, Fear of Mamahuhu going dark again intensifies. Bad memories. My life want really worth living during that time.
Those pranks are really fckng funny actially ahahaha
It could be worse! Could be stuck in China right now. Looking forward to your guys’ content. You guys would be funny anywhere
At least it wasn’t like so many of the “woe is me” foreigner stories constantly posted on WeChat. Living in China I get sick of those.
what are they posting about?
Angel Morales Typically it is a person who only lived in China for a year or two and they immediately fled the country and then they whine when they can’t return so they lose their jobs. Or the other side when they stay in China but they whine about the poor conditions and the lack of work because they signed with a small company. While the first few stories were of human interest, after that too many people wrote stories along the lines of “you think you have it bad? Let me tell you my story” It just gets too repetitive.
@@seanarmstrong8460 I get you. Can't stand the second kind. They get to the point of being straight up rude and aholes towards locals. 7 years in China I've seen my fair share of those.
nice video
I'd drive around, hike in the Highland or Isle of Skye. So much to do in Scotland! Love Scotland from Shenzhen.
In nearly the same situation. Stuck in Hungary for now.
It kinda feels like that part in a movie when you're the only one left in the world
Do you live in a castle in Scotland?
Compared to Shanghai apartments, maybe.
So Alessio has a daughter???
Damn, I really feel you man, I also went out and technically banned from China.
Dude, I found this video randomly and that's the exact same life for me
Mate i was like what in the world...? but yea love your humour, it was a good one, v british indeed
At least you don't have to do your own laundry. Lol. :)
Alessio, your daughter is toooooo adorable!!
God that’s sooo true!
Wish I could get some hophouse 13 on tap where I am in China
hope this pandemic will be over quickly so people can go where ever they want
Such a cute little girl at the end!
It's so bizarre seeing a Mamahuhu video set in Scotland.
These are bizarre times.
I'm banned from China too! We went to Thailand in March thinking that all things will smoothen by the end of March, but then... Now we are waiting for permission to return as all our stuff is there
Loved the shots of the underwear, so graceful and perfectly framed. Almost like an underwear ballet.
simply I already missed Sanlitun times so much!!
Don't worry about this, your friends will be waiting for you in China and we will welcome you back. Just have a good holiday.
Whats the relationship be like between adults and their parents in ireland,is it more western or asian?
Haven't been to Ireland.
Alot of us are banned from China :(

Oh nooo,
The loneliness has driven him insane!
Me too.
No... I want to see the mama huhu clan together again 😭...
Chinese exchange students in foreign countries are also banned 😭
Oh god, I feel this on such a high level.
Coming back to China was my dream for last three years, but I couldn't fulfill it because of stuff I needed to finish here first. And now, when I was ready to jump on the first flight, all of this happened, and I stuck here for at least another half a year.
I feel so crushed and heartbroken right now all these days, but I don't even know who I can talk to, and it really hurts.
Tania JS I’m sorry that happened. It’ll be okay. Have faith~
We are in the same situation, cannot go back to china
Quarantine will teach us what we really want. Finally have the chance to slow down and think about life.
the whole world is paused now, but I believe we won't stop communication. After this period, I believe we will value our health more, we will value our communication more, we will understand and embrace our differences more. Welcome back to China when the virus ends
3:03 So relatable
I know so many people in this situation. I'm in Henan, by the way. Foreigners aren't "banned" from China, so much as no longer allowed to come back. The situation that the rest of the world is complaining about happened here too. We're just about a month ahead of everyone. China is super cautious about letting foreigners in--with good reason--because people in other parts of the world aren't willing to be as cautious. Chinese authorities are testing everyone who gets off an international flight these days,, and they recently found 60 new Coronavirus cases on ONE flight from Moscow.
Sometimes I wish they were a little less cautious. My students still haven't come back to campus. It's still pretty quiet around here, and movement is still limited and regulated--but I would rather be where I am now than "free" in the U.S.
Ani Val are you so sure that 60 people tested positive...
@@Ashman792 Weibo News. I'll leave it to you to decide whether you want to discount it on the grounds that it's Chinese.
@@anival9576 enjoy the bubble
I can definitely understand the need to be cautious, but it is really hard being trapped out of my home. I happened to be on holiday in Canada visiting family when this all went down, now I'm stuck sleeping on an air mattress in my sister's apartment while my wife is still in China. Haven't seen her since January. But I know I'm not the only one in this boat, and even Chinese citizens are trapped out of China struggling to get back.
What nonsense. Foreigners are specifically targeted by the ban. Chinese are just as likely to carry the virus back. But that won't make the news in China, so yeah, that's one good reason to immediately discredit Weibo content (especially if it has itself no reliable source). Because any opposing or counterbalancing story is denied accessibility. Everything has to be pro-China or anti-Foreign.
The irony is that that flight from Moscow must have contained mostly Chinese people, because they are the one who most want to return to China. Nearly every Chinese we know who went to live or study abroad returned to the homeland during the last month. So why pretend only foreigners are a danger? Because the authorities want to promote a narrative - that they've succeeded in eliminating the infections in local population; they need a scapegoat to explain the coming second wave, and it has to be a foreign element to defer the blame. The travel ban is a political move to convince the local population that they've got things under control.
I wouldn't rather be in the US only because things have started later on and I wouldn't want to experience forced isolation twice, but I would rather be anywhere else than in this completely opaque political mess (aka dictatorship) that is China. Unfortunately I might be stuck in this intellectual shithole all Summer.
You are ‘not stuck’ In a beautiful place right now. Why would you want to leave that place ?
Ahah, I've been banned for 4 years in 2019, still have 3 years to go. Have would you feel about that? =)
Artem Dreifeldt what did you do to get banned ?
This is what exactly happens to me: at 1st I went for sea seeing, and at 2nd I started messing with my younger brother.
And yes I did try TikTok........
