It was a nightmare for me until I discovered the secret. ALWAYS send the driver a message before he calls. If I send a message immediately they accept the ride, less than 5% end up calling. Saved my life so many time. In the message just ask when he's coming, and mention you're ready and waiting for him, (even if you aren't). They never call after that. Just send you a message back.No need to mention location if you can't say it

China is so cheap and convenient because its priced for the average Chinese consumer, so if you're making as much as the average the ESL teaching expat(2 or 3 times as much as the average Chinese college graduate) AND you're fluent enough to use all the apps/websites/services, its like being moderately wealthy person back home.

The thing is... I suggest that if you are not a native Mandarin speaker, don't call a taxi by DiDi. Sometime even me and my friends, we can't understand the accent of those drivers and we can't understand exactly what they are talking about... if you use DiDi in Beijing or some other city where people speak pure Mandarin, that's much easier for you but if you are in cities like Chengdu or Chongqing... it's better go home on foot because accent will KILL you (I'm not joking)

With Uber in America then just follow the location of the customer and go there. They never call you. But in China they call you , and constantly never go to the right location. This video is completely accurate. Also Chinese people speak for five minutes to discuss a single simple conversation like where someone is and they must repeat themselves three or four times before the driver understands. It’s such a ridiculous situation every time.

  • @samuelzhao7770

It could be problematic everywhere in the world that you cannot speak their local language. You just cannot expect that everyone in China can speak English, especially the taxi driver who has less possibility of getting educated. The reason for drivers must call you is that DIDI sucks. It usually sent a wrong location to drivers.
