I know, right? Most scammers try to scam you with basically no info. These people had all of her info, which is TERRIFYING.
Literally. I was expecting something super stupid but then her story was crazy. Most people would definitely fall for that including me. Especially if they just know your family and have your live location (which in hindsight the IRS wouldn't actually do that but in the moment that's really scary)

Btw, the IRS will almost NEVER call you. They will typically only contact you through the mail the first time.
and if you really fucked up they will serve you a court summons.
This needs more upvotes. This is critical information to not panic when being called by "the IRS".
They also have an ID number they are required to give you if you ask. It's all on their website but never hurts to rehash!!
@@cliffer6715 even then I'd tell the person that gave you the ID that you'll call back the IRS number directly with the given ID so you can be reconnected to them, mostly to verify the authenticity of the call; considering all of the IRS scams out there, I doubt they'd deny letting you do that 😛
honestly, even if they really call you, _YOU_ should tell them that youre hanging up and calling back. Then look up the real IRS number just incase. if theres a problem, theyll have it on file
My mom got a scam-looking letter from a bank saying an account was made in her name and she owed money. She felt it was weird and asked me/my dad. We looked up the number online and the phone number was different than the one in the letter. We called and they said there was nothing weird on their end
But the thing was the timing was crazy. My mom _had_ just made an account that month so it did almost feel legit, except everything was good to go so owing money made no sense. So if she wasnt vigilant, it could have easily fallen into a scam
It always hurts listening to QT retell that human trafficking story, bc she's always so 'I'm so embarrassed' and 'I can't believe I was stupid enough to fall for it'... When it's not that stupid at all... First of, victim blaming is never the right way to go about it, but second of, that's not like a 'obvious scam' in any way. They have your info, personal details like family, your location, it's an authority in the 'IRS', so you're not exactly gonna easily risk questioning it... It's just always so sad listening to QT beat herself up about 'falling for such an obviously scam', when she has nothing to feel embarrassed about... She was almost human trafficked, and after it all she's left thinking 'yeah I was so stupid'... Like girl... Please, stop insulting yourself over this 😭. She reacted like any normal person would.

Watched him for years and 99% don't blame those who are taken in by such scams, or the buzz word 'victim blaming'. You'll get the odd one if you sort by new, but majority don't.

Even if I was in that situation and knew what was happening, I still can't say for sure I wouldn't end up in a similar situation because even if I disobeyed it still feels like they have so much information on you that you're still not safe.
@@gram. they were. It was one story where the threat of consequences, for owing tax money, lead her to the federal courthouse where, if the call didn’t drop, she would of been directed to park in the lower level of the parking structure where she would of been trafficked.

OMG the scam she fell for is super convincing and they were bold enough to call her at work/have people know it was happening and then do it at a federal building. That's so scary. wow.
That's the part that gets me the most. Her boss was a witness and knew she'd be going there and they didn't seem fazed by that at all. I guess they were confident enough she'd disappear so well even with that knowledge the police wouldn't find her. Really scary to think about.

Her story needs to be heard. If there's even a small chance that other people could be victimized, and people hearing her story could help, it deserves to be heard.
apparently it happens more often, because the people inside knew exactly what was going on. Unfortunately this also implies the traffickers have been 'successful' using this strategy. It breaks my heart to hear this.

I’m in security, and QT’s story is something I’ve never heard of before. That was unusually high-effort. QT was definitely targeted and cyberstalked. I do not blame her for falling for it, one bit.
The trafficking story is terrifying to me because you have to think how much research they did on QT to know all of that and be ready to follow her in a car after she left her job. Makes you think how long they have been scouting her out because they saw a beautiful woman and wanted to do terrible things to her. I'm so scared of this world and the evil that resides in it, yes there is good, but damn the evil is horrifying.

Her scam traffic story is so scary! I am so happy that she went INSIDE the courthouse... the story is really convincing by the scammers... so glad she is okay and spreading awaweness.
I feel so fucking bad for Qt- all the stories she tells about tramutizing and fucked up stuff that happens to her she ALWAYS blames herself when it is literally never her fault. Her boss convinced her it was real and fuck I would've done the same.

Its relatively easy to get this info if you buy the right dump off the dark web/grey hate websites, have their computer infected with some kind of malware, and you can grab peoples relatives and most likely current address and phone number off of white pages just knowing their full name and at least around where they might live.

The IRS isn't a law enforcement agency but a lot of people don't know enough about how the government works to know. Glad QT was OK, that's a terrifying story
Actually, the IRS has a criminal investigations branch, and they do arrest people.

Especially with QT almost choking in her drink from laughter, followed by an even more surprising answer. That was great!
QT wouldn't be dumb for falling for that scam regardless, but especially when she received the call at work and it was prefaced by both the receptionist and her boss taking it seriously. An authority figure/colleague treating the call as credible would make it way harder to question than if it happened when she was alone.

The Western banks putting call centres in India has played a part in this.
They probably do feel guilty about it to an extent. But I also imagine they rationalize it like: “I didn’t start this scam, I was recruited to do this. I’m just doing my job. America is a rich country so it’s not a big deal to take money from them.” etc. And it’s probably easier to do this to someone on the other side of the world where the effects are so far removed from yourself and your community. I mean, look at how the west exploits workers in other countries to save a buck.

@@chrisjohnson-tn3gl it is wasting scammer's time, instead of the scammer going along and actually scamming real victims, they are on an elaborate storyline with entertainment value and being made fun of, as well as, informing people about what kind of scams there are out there. If you want to watch someone really fuck around and get police involved and shut down some centres I highly recommend Mark Rober, Jim Browning and Trilogy Media!

Lol when Kitboga said "ok super quick - you're making him super mad which is good" - was EXACTLY what I was thinking. He probably forgot to mention it before they started, but then could see QT was unsure about Kit saying "sorry" on her behalf. But her talking about the video games was perfect.
firstly, so extremely glad that she was not abducted and that the call dropped before they could tell her to park under the building.
secondly, a lot of the time i cringe too hard to watch scam call videos but this was so absolutely enjoyable they riff off each other perfectly. best scam call video ive ever seen hands down

They knew QT's family and phone number and everything... that is extremely scary.
Frightening. Oh my god I didn't know this story. The thing that probably would have clicked was the fact that they knew the location, meaning they knew where QT was and that already is alarming.
@Jodie Renee I would guess she installed a malicious app they control on her phone. On Android for example an malicious app could access the phone screen (also of other apps) through accessibility services so they could see who she is communicating with (find out about her family) and see where she is going through Google Maps or something (home address, work, they don't even need location access). If they know where she works they can find out the phone of her boss (which is probably available somewhere online) ... those are just my thoughts as an app developer, though.

I was smiling and laughing through all of it (not QT's story about the trafficking though, that was honestly terrifying and I'm so so so glad it failed). Interesting show. I got into scambaiting after hearing of residents at our retirement community who lost money to them, so I started a newsletter detailing scams and act as a resource person. I encourage them to call me if they get any weird messages or emails and I do a class demonstrating how scams work and what to watch out for. I really think education is critical in helping to prevent people from getting scammed.

My dad convinced me a student loan scam was legit and I gave them all my info and felt dumb for quite a while until I realized the whole premise of these scams are to prey on your fear and pressure you with short time windows. QT shouldn't feel bad, and neither should anyone else who gets caught up in one, like Kitboga said, if you had a minute to think about it you'd probably realize something was up.

I don't understand why these scammers yell all the time. I am from India and these guys are just black spots for our country. I feel so bad for the real victims who have to go through so much hardship because of these fraudsters. I really appreciate all the work you are putting in to annoy the heck out of them. 👍 I really wish something can be done about these scam centers by the Indian legal system.

I recoiled hard at that story I wasn’t thinking it was a sex trafficking scam I thought it was gonna be like a cash scam, that’s much much worse and I can’t believe qt feels dumb for almost falling for that. that’s completely understandable and I’m so glad she exposed that that is happening
That starting story is insane. How did they even get all that information?
She probably posted some of it online on her personal social media accounts/her jobs but also they probably used data broker sites to get things like her address, her phone & her familys etc.

My fb got hacked years ago while I was at work. I don't use cellphones so they had to do it the old-fashioned way. Guess my security just was not up high enough.
The hacker started messing with friends of mine, one of which is a GREAT researcher. She figured out what was going on pretty quickly once she realized it was not actually me she was texting with. She made sure to lure the hacker in and showed them a pic of who she is...she showed a pic of a cop taking a selfie. SUDDENLY the conversation stopped.
I had a phone call waiting for me when I got hole from work, my friend told me the entire thing. Changed all my passwords, etc. lol
It's real, it happens even when you are not looking.

I don't think it is as complicated as using trackers or something. I would guess she installed a malicious app they control on her phone. If they can get access to the screen (through acessibility services on Android for example) they can see all her communication with her family and friends and they can see where she is going when she uses Google Maps or something. I think they could easily figure out everything else with this information.

My mom almost fell for this email scam because she had used Geek squad in the past. I had to explain to her that it was a scam, and show how she can tell when something like that is a scam. Educate the older people in your life.

One thing I learned about scam victims from Atomic Shrimp: Anyone can be a victim. Just because 1 scam didn't sound plausible to you, it may to someone else. I almost fell for one saying I didn't pay my final month's rent. I was so scared that I even called my ex, who I had a restraining order against, and my old apartment complex. I was so frightened at that moment because I was out of money and no help, but finally the next day I got through to my old apartment and they said nothing was wrong on their end. Worst day ever passing by and thinking I would be arrested and have to explain to my family what happened. I can see, especially with QT's boss also being worried, how she was almost trafficked.

She fell for the same scam from that one famous YT clip, where the guy is in an uber while on the phone with the irs scammers, and hes freaking out and stuff, and the uber driver ends up saving him last second. Check that vid out if you havent already
