- The Lightning is a very good T8 DD, strong DPM, great concealment, fast mobile smokes and personal hydro along with single launch hard hitting torps makes it a solid choice. You can find my recommended build at the end as usual.

nice job there, but remember how the WG math works Flamu: 120:6= 20, but that means, the efective pen is 19mm only...
... which means, you can have some shatters on Gearing ( 21mm middle part of the hull, 20mm turrets - Fletcher turrets too )
But I understand your point, 19mm is in 90% what you need ( most of DDs and BB superstructures (that Mushi) ) to make some reliable HE dmg.

So you took 15 902 dmg while you have 15 900 hp... Clearly hacking.
Hello Flamu, given you ran into a Harekaze and stated how Lightning outguns the weeb boat, I was wondering what your thoughts on the ship were. It is after all also a somewhat slow DD (albeit with speed boost), good concealment and a lot of gunpower. I know you once made a Harekaze video when it was released, but it seems mostly about the USN guns, which have become a bit pointless after the recent 10 cm gun buff, and you do talk about Harekaze shortly in the Ranked Season 8 comparison of ships, but with recent buffs, it does now have the potential 32 mm pen, that can change things a bit. Or take 4 skill points for something else (RPF?).
I know, there isn't a great lot of reasons to talk about the ship in regular vids, given it is not that common, nothing much happened except the buff and it no longer is on sale (collab ran out), but would the ship be considered powerful now with the buffs? Or is Lightning going to ruin its day? I doubt Lightning makes it obsolete, given they occupy somewhat different areas, but I do wonder. Also, because, where does this leave Kagero? Personally, the ship feels a bit silly now with its effective dpm (pre-buff, I'd consider it perfectly balanced, so a straight up buff obviously makes me question that), but I'm at best a slightly above average player with limited high tier DD experience, so if you could share a few words, please.
@@juggernauth8196 it has the health repair consumable on it to regain lost hp. several of the brit boats have that module.

The L class is a really strong RN design - probably one of the stronger ones next to the ton of repeat designs of the wartime emergency program destroyers which were repeat designs of existing pre-war examples.
Lightning's 360deg guns are pretty unique & single torpedo launcher is also a worthwhile addition - not particularly powerful but as you stated, competitive.

This ship is very good and has become my favorite DD for hunting other DDs. It's good at everything and really only lacks in top speed for getting out of sticky situations but the smokes make up for that.
Just got mine the hard way since I didn't get it in a crate, can't wait to get her completely upfitted.

Have things changed since you made this vid as far as to build for the Lightning? Seems I have no choices for consumables at all and only three consumables slots which are occupied by Damage control party, short bust smoke which won't cover my ship when moving. If I pop smoke while reversing full speed and immediately go full speed ahead the smoke will dissipate before it covers me. Three K hydo acoustic is pretty useless as when behind an island, ships I am expecting to appear from behind it appear 2 K past where expected. All it seems to do is detect torpedos not ships. Has the Lighting been horribly nerfed? I used to routinely sink BBs and CVs if no enemies interfered. Now it seems like I am always detected long before I am in effective torpedo range and often under fire by secondaries while still near my max artillery range. I often get destroyed by rockets whenever there is a CV in the game, unless I hang real lose to BBs or CVs or cruisers that have decent AA. Almost never get team dammage on ships I detect, which are very few even when I am 10 K or so ahead of the pack. Destroyers and cruisers have popped up within 2 K 2.5 k of my ship well out from the island they came from behind, with all guns already pointed at me. Many games start with a "Located arrow" immediately. What does that mean?
Please revisit Lighting and see what the changes have done to it.
As a IJN main for DDs and BBs since beta, all I can say is the PowerCreep is real, very real.
Would you recommend Lightning for Ranked? I tried one game, and while I wasn't a hindrance (butchered a Benson before getting blapped) I feel like it doesn't quite do enough to help the team.
i would like you to note that forcing the torps to reload has a reduction on the reload time dependent on how many torps are left in the tubes ... not many seem to notice that and can be used to catch people by surprise
When will we ever get the Tillman-Class Super Heavy BB's...
But joking aside, I'd love to see more Super-Heavy Battle ships added. There is only 1 I know of for sure and potentially 2. I'd love to see the Super-Yamato or the H44.
Flamu, I request a video in which you show how to play a German DD in a RN DD meta.
If you can get yourself into a situation that you spot them within your hydro range and smoke up, then you can chunk them down for quite a bit until they spot you. Play the Germans as cap contesters and torpedo boats, not gunboats. They excel when enemy DDs push into them, open water gunboating is only a good idea in them when you have a clear cut advantage. (For example don't fight a full HP Daring in a Z52. DO fight a half HP lightning in a full HP Z23.) I do agree with you that these RN DDs have too much going for them at the measly cost of some speed, but most aren't OP. (Lightning is debatable, and Jutland and Daring seem to be getting nerfed.)
Every single German DD has better ship detection range with its hydro (tier for tier)........
@@Miller2537 that doesn't help much. if the brit rushes you (he too has hydro) he will easily force you out of your smoke and they just outgun you. Even the Z52 "only" has 5.88km hydro and 2.9km concealment when smoke firing, that's less then 3km buffer at best.

The german Hydro is better. Better range. But not significant enough to challange the RN DD's
The Z-23 doesn't have German hydro. The Brits simply have a modified hydro with less range but much better duration.
@@KnodsilMemeMaker The only german DD that gets the german hydro is Z-52, all other tiers get the standard cruiser hydro.

@@CrowsRevenge1 you are right on the shorter duration longer range lo Yang range but nowerdays you both get radared or lightning turns away then it's just a DPM game that lightning wins. Lo Yang Torps are low damage and so slow.
Since radar meta I have retired my lo Yang as no longer a reliable credits earner nor great fun always in tier 10 games. I have switched to pure gunboats at range to give chance Vs radar.

@@Cloudman572 i play mine with pretty good results. Bait out radar then push into caps. I also use the much shorter range torps that are a lot fasted to dd fight. Works well so far.
well over 100 boxes opened, still no lightning... doing all missions too. At this rate will have xp on the t7 from dailies and probably get it on the last week.

IFHE not benefit that much for 120 mm guns, but for 127-139 mm it's useful enough, note, only for gunboats

It sounds like you have the stock hull. Lightning has 15.9k health default.

@@RushyoRifle , see Notser's video it literary took him about 250 crates 60%+ of which premium bought crates by subscribers for him before lightning mission. He was recycling the sovereigns to crates. If it can happen to him it is going to happen to others. Notser's was saying maybe chance standard up to 20 crates then auto crate with mission for random ship mission so 80 crates max for all 4 ships. WG happy and players willing to buy 20, 40, 60, 80 crates happy.
Sure would be great if I could get one of the missions. I've finished every single British mission available, opened multiple British chests and nothing. I really hate now RNG WoW is becoming.
Power creep in WOWS is out of control. Faster, more manoeuvrable, better firepower, better detection range every new ship that comes out.
Faster? They are the slowest destroyers in the game. You get so easily blapped by cruisers and battleships in these things or at least that was my experience in the t7 i got from a free box. They are great at fighting other destroyers but kinda crap at everything else.
What about the Harekaze? Same speed same concealment, but no guns lol. And same weakness to carriers

If the RN destroyers get caught out in the open, they're screwed. I've been deleted in seconds just because of unfortunate timing on smoke or detection. They are knife fighters against other destroyers, but they are very hard to use against anything else.

I'm not even one 100th as good as you are, but IMO killing that scharn was a waste of time. He was out of position, not really threatning and you should rather have helped your team on the other flank.

Done all the RN crap available up to now (without buying containers) except for the missions which require a RN DD tier 7+ (as I have the Gallant from time ago). Zero fucking missions, not even the one for the tier 5. It was the same for the French BBs. So no, no lightning, nor any other RN DD.
It is really infuriating this RNG based container "reward" thing... WG could easily balance it out so that the more containers you open the higher the chance (by lowering the chance at the beginning) and these chances should be public knowledge, there is no reason not to publish it other than "We don't want". Seriously, am I just extremely unlucky, or is it that everyone is buying containers like mad??

I play shima, and if there is one thing I can guarantee it is that peeps will continue to sit in smoke and fire. I actively hunt for DD's sitting and smoke. Got all 3 enemy dd's and a CA in one game on the weekend. 1 dd and the brit cruiser were smokers and they died.
