He looks like he hates it at first but he's secretly fascinated by the language. Just the way he imitates it so well proves he's been practicing for a long time. PS: what a weird guy.
It doesnt't sound annoying to a Finnish ear, it sounds annoying to your ear. I have always liked it, it's strong and it isn't something you throw around casually like "luv ya". When you say it in Finnish it really means something.
Idk, as far as all languages go, I think "Minä rakastan sinua" is quite ugly. There are much nicer sounding words and phrases in Finnish. And I say that as a Finn.
I'm amazed at how many Finnish words he knows. And the pronunciation is almost perfect, wow. And hey people, lighten up. He's obviously not insulting us.
i almost choked on my morningcoffee when he said ''jag älskar dig'' in swedish. he said it so well! sounded just like swedish. and i think it's rly interesting to hear foreings opinion about finland & finnish language!
It's easier than you'd think especially if you put your mind to it. :) Some immigrants who really care have learned to speak finnish decently in a year and so well in two that it's barely noticeable that they've been born in completely different country.
It's heaven on earth but people get depressed in the winter due to the lack of daylight, we get about 4 or 5 hours of daytime for a large part of the year, it depresses some people. I think another reason is that Finns are so intelligent people, they see the horrible realities of life :-( BTW I'm English but I live in Finland :-)
His finnish and swedish pronounciations are fucking great,i would like to see ANY other American to pull them off that good..When i was a teen i used to watch America's next top model the first seasons with my sister..I liked/like Jay a lot,he would be really interesting person to hang with..
1. he is making fun 2. u can see he is interested about finland, since he cared to learn so many finnish words 3. im finnish and i find this flattering
Perhaps you should hear few words besides those. - Sibelius - Saarinen - Perkele - Vittun Keijo - Tukka lähtee kun tavataan And one word i would love to hear you say. epäjärjestelmällistyttämättömyydellänsäkään Yes that is one word ;)
Seriously, this is just good-intentioned fun. The guy is being sarcastic. If you cannot understand what he's trying to do, I don't know how simple your sense of humor is.
Mä ajattelen ihan samalla tavalla muista kielistä. Koska suomi on minulle tunneperäinen kieli ja pidän sitä siksi kauniina. On englanninkielessäkin tyhmänkuuloisia sanoja. Jos toi ei pidä lauseesta: " Minä rakastan sinua" sen ymmärtää hyvin. En minäkään pidä siitä, että ulkomaareissuilla tulee lipeviä miehiä huutelemaan "i love you" yök, ihan kamalankuuloista.. :D Kaikissa kielissä on omanlaisia juntteja sanoja..
I love it, it is mystic and beautiful! The Mumins also come from Finland. It is a fairy tale country, a country with the best school system in the world, lots of lakes, forest ... it has its own spirit! It´s wonderful!
Thank you, makkepottunen, for the video. I enjoyed it a lot and laughed a lot. His pronunciation of Finnish words was phenomenal. The 'fake' Finnish speech was hilarious and so close to the real thing. Just a pity that some trolls are writing abuse of Finland, nothing to do with the video. They must be very unhappy to have all that hate in there mind constantly.
I love it when some English speakers take a highly arrogant stand that their language is the only real one in the entire world and then present subjective remarks based on this premise about "beauty" and "sense" as matter of facts. Kinda like when Silvio Berlusconi and Gordon Ramsay declared Finnish cuisine absolute crap after tasting something they're clearly not used to for the first time. That's pretty ballsy for a brit, who's unofficial national food is fish and chips. Inb4 U MAD BRO
Their words are long because theyre compound words. You dont say "dresser drawer" you say "dresserdrawer". Its pretty cool, they even make up their own, i hear.
@kisiam I'm Dutch and they say the same about our language and when we are in the US it seems EVERYBODY things we're German.... but not meant as a compliment. so it's just an opinion, don't understand why people think it's bad he's saying this. so I agree Kisiam
Hyvin se on näköjään suomen kielen omaksunut. 0:43 - "Mitä toiki toistamaan tääl kaikkein mieluite jotai herroja mitää Saijonmaata tarvi tolla tavalla mitä kaikkea... mut on töitä. Henry tee se yhtä aikaa! Moi hei! Mitäs..." 0:59 - "Vaar' unta soimaa tai jotai. Se on ravintola."
Ahaha, bless my country and our crazy language, personally I find it to sound most delightful. True, not very romantic, but hilariously peculiar, especially with the regional dialects.
@he11kat Well in the interview he said when he came to Finland for the first time, then he couldn't see the difference. I'm sure now he knows the difference between Finnish and Swedish. :)
Oh I disagree, I'm canadian and I love all that rolling around of the language, the really spunky rythm.. definitely very sexy. He has a point, it's not usual and can be difficult to adjust to for a native anglophone but I think it might have been a little bit misplaced to say that in Finland, on the set of a Finn Tv show that welcomes you as a guest..
I think Jay likes Finland (he says these things in a funny way... not for hurting anybody .. and finnish CAN sound funny for who those who are not Finns...) Most hilarious video ever..........(and ps. I am Finn myself...)
@kisiam Not that it actually matters at all to be honest? Every language is different and some sound strange, some do not. Even though he knows how to say it, the only thing missing from it is the passion and emotion which is really important when speaking Finnish. I did not get offended by this video that much, only part was the start where he mocks one of the strongest sentences we have.
I know cose im italian,,mulle kulosti Japani :D
I've been to Helsinki four times and agree with some of what he has to say about the language, but in no way does it reflect the wonderful people or culture of the country. This is just one person's opinion and was not intended to insult the Finnish in any way. Some of your comments are way more offensive than anything he had to say.
This is the most funniest for long time I seen... and it made it even funnier to me because I am sitting in a library and was going to listen to this... and the sound was on (did not go to headphone) so everybody could hear.. and first thing we hear here was when Jay said: "and u can not say fuck u like a whore" and that sentence came up with LOUD voice here in library...(and I am now sitting... next (a nice) brown coloured person.. and I could not stop laughing..I said I am sorry I am sorry..
Haha I liked this one. He's funny. And I think he was right about the things he said. How come he knows so many finnish words? But why are there so many bad comments about him in this video? :/ I'm from Finland. :)
I had the experience like him. when i was in tampere, i saw this sign in finnish+swedish and i was like: " wow, what a giant diffirence between these languages!"...ohhh i have to visit finland again :D
he's a genius!!! i love him! there is nothing wrong with having an "opinion" about a language or culture. we are all human, we all belong to each other so it doesn't matter ...maybe he prefers french. i'm arabic and i personally do not like my own language but my friend LOVE it....thats fine lol.
finlandia sim um pais bunito eas pessoas educadas ai sim sua lingua passa aser respeitada.......................................te amo finlandia sempre.nós brasileiros amamos vocês.........
@ChelseafcTube language is tottaly related to the countries' location, even more in Europe, Portugal is in south west of europe, so they have a latin language, nothing compared to Russian, or germanic or scandinavian languages
Isn't it funny how foreign people think he's an asshole for saying those things, while finnish people are watching the same thing and laughing their asses off? I'm finnish, and I think this is freaking funny :D ..Maybe we're just weird.
okay, here's the deal. english and finnish are like... extremely different. so its stupid for english people commet on how finnish sounds stupid, because you have no fucking idea on what the stuff means. and it goes vice versa. well, not exaclty. most finnish people speak exellent english, but you get the deal. im finnish my self, and i love both languages. people, you honestly have no idea how beautiful finnish is. you need to be finnish to fully get it. but english is fucking awesome too.
I do think the same thing as he does of the language I know these guys from Finland and when they talk im like O_O they talk soo fast and the conversation so long they actually breath like he says im just like O_O amazing longest conversations ever but its also facinates me in some way and my boyfriend is finnish and he wants to move over there with me but I dont know I dont know anything about that country
why everyone's angry about? i don't like some countries either...after somalia or afganistan finland feels like heaven, i guess, but I think finnish is beautiful language and finland is lovely land :D , but hate winters here :(
My Canadian dad was married to my finnish mother, he said the language sounds like a speech impediment.. lolish.. I've been hearing it off and on troughout my whole life.. I imagin elves would speak like this, actually.
That jibberish really sounds like finnish!
it is! he's clearly making a dinner reservation.
@@Carissa99Xo😂 mitä kaikkea ja ravintola oli selkeitä. Törky, passila 😂
For a foreigner he pronounces Finnish surprisingly well. And that imitation was spot on!
I just can't get tired of this video, it's so funny
🤣
His expressions are priceless! This is so funny!!!
he is so funny!! And also pretty intelligent, i must say. Picked up super quickly.
He's so fascinating.
I feel like we only get to see a sliver of who he is and how smart he is.
Honestly his language skills are AWESOME! He remembered so many Finnish words... Seriously this is so funny :)
This is a video that lives rent free in my brain. I think about it in the middle of the night when I can't sleep.
I just love how he says "se on ravintola" ("it's a restaurant") with such a painful expression... :D
He looks like he hates it at first but he's secretly fascinated by the language. Just the way he imitates it so well proves he's been practicing for a long time.
PS: what a weird guy.
Well he's very good at pronouncing this language.
Shut up!
The Finnish language is beautiful.
Oh really...
olli lopeta toi itseviha
It doesnt't sound annoying to a Finnish ear, it sounds annoying to your ear. I have always liked it, it's strong and it isn't something you throw around casually like "luv ya". When you say it in Finnish it really means something.

As a Finn I gotta hand it to this guy, I'm impressed. Our language is the ultimate code language but his pronounciation is pretty damn good
Miss J can pronounce finnish really well!
Passila? :D
omg his impression was so good xD
i almost choked on my morningcoffee when he said ''jag älskar dig'' in swedish. he said it so well! sounded just like swedish. and i think it's rly interesting to hear foreings opinion about finland & finnish language!
Funny video but still im going to learn finnish language 😃
It's easier than you'd think especially if you put your mind to it. :)
Some immigrants who really care have learned to speak finnish decently in a year and so well in two that it's barely noticeable that they've been born in completely different country.
Onnea matkaan (good luck)
No oks jäbä jo mite oppinu, et hiffaaks sä ku sulle sproogaa?
How is it going so far?
Jay's finnish is excellent! :D
Finnish is very difficult but nice language. :D
Nothing better here in Finland than walking alone in the dark listening music in the temperature of -20 C -> :)
Okay, i just fell off from my chair when he started to talk "finnish" :D Cute!
hearing foreigners spell finnish words, it never gets old :DD
I actually find Finnish a very beautiful sounding language.
Finland is a very special place indeed
hi i turn the words for you guys! 1:04 se on ravintola=its a restaurant
1:30 mitä=what
2:14 ilta-sanomat is a magazine from finland.there you go.
man he's pretty funny and honest too. and its not like he is offending cause he is pretty spot on the things he says.
Perhaps you should hear few words besides those.
- Sibelius
- Saarinen
- Perkele
- Vittun Keijo
- Tukka lähtee kun tavataan
And one word i would love to hear you say.
epäjärjestelmällistyttämättömyydellänsäkään
Yes that is one word ;)
"this is in Finnish and this is in swedish" "Ohhhh!" lol
Jay's accent is better than I thought it would be.
Se on ravintola XDDD!! Repeen aina tolle!
He has a good ear for language characteristics. His swedish was just as good as most immigrant's.
How has he learnt to speak so fluent Finnish? He didn't even have a proper accent. "Päivi" was an amusing addition to the end. :)
i've just been to finland and what a great place!!
A person encounters a language they haven't heard before, and is astounded that it sounds weird to them.
Seriously, this is just good-intentioned fun. The guy is being sarcastic. If you cannot understand what he's trying to do, I don't know how simple your sense of humor is.

Tää on niin hauska :DD Ei se Miss Jay noita varmaan pahalla tarkoita, hämmästelee vaan :3
He must be really good at languages because the imitation sounds really like Finnish.
i agree, i love Finland.
I love it, it is mystic and beautiful! The Mumins also come from Finland. It is a fairy tale country, a country with the best school system in the world, lots of lakes, forest ... it has its own spirit! It´s wonderful!
i am finn and i dont understand anything what he says in finnish...maybe some words

I Speak Spanish but I think that the finnish language is one of the more beautiful in the world...and is really difficult to learn
just for a record, he tried to say (or im not sure he tried, but meant) "minä rakastan sinua" which means "i love you".
but this is epic xDDD
Oh my god someone else gets it. Kiitos, Miss J. Kiitos.
I love it when some English speakers take a highly arrogant stand that their language is the only real one in the entire world and then present subjective remarks based on this premise about "beauty" and "sense" as matter of facts.

He´s wonderful! :D
Miss Jay (born 1958) 'nuff said.
Oh how i love Finland
Miss Jay is crazy. Finnish sounds hot to me! Especially when the boys speak it :)
Their words are long because theyre compound words. You dont say "dresser drawer" you say "dresserdrawer". Its pretty cool, they even make up their own, i hear.

i am british but have lived in finland, and speak and understand the language a bit. To me it sounds Finnish
he talks pretty good finnish :D
Hyvin se on näköjään suomen kielen omaksunut.

Kaikki vaa ragee tääl. Mä ainaki nauran :D
Ahaha, bless my country and our crazy language, personally I find it to sound most delightful. True, not very romantic, but hilariously peculiar, especially with the regional dialects.
..and he was smiling (the person next to me) and said : it is ok it is ok (but even he was smiling...)
Ooh, now I want to watch Finland's Next Top Model...
i dont care for miss J, but his fucking right about this language..
I have nothing to do with Finland or Finnish but i love the Nordic languages. They have this aura of "ancient civilization".
@jacarandas82 Great comment - they`re definitely few and far between on CZcams. J. Alexander is a surprisingly vocal yet intelligent man.
@he11kat Well in the interview he said when he came to Finland for the first time, then he couldn't see the difference. I'm sure now he knows the difference between Finnish and Swedish. :)
Oh I disagree, I'm canadian and I love all that rolling around of the language, the really spunky rythm..

Wow. His accent and pronunciation was pretty good for never having heard it before.
finnish is like 3rd hardest language in world i werent suprised that miss jay thought its hard to speak it.
I've been to Helsinki four times and agree with some of what he has to say about the language, but in no way does it reflect the wonderful people or culture of the country. This is just one person's opinion and was not intended to insult the Finnish in any way. Some of your comments are way more offensive than anything he had to say.
Never thought of it that way but you are SO RIGHT. I was struck by Miss J's seriousness b/c it isn't something you see in ANTM.
@animator297 Agreed! I was surprised he had some notion about places, words, and his almost good pronunciation!
he's sooooo funny!
This is the most funniest for long time I seen... and it made it even funnier to me because I am sitting in a library and was going to listen to this... and the sound was on (did not go to headphone) so everybody could hear.. and first thing we hear here was when Jay said: "and u can not say fuck u like a whore" and that sentence came up with LOUD voice here in library...(and I am now sitting... next (a nice) brown coloured person.. and I could not stop laughing..I said I am sorry I am sorry..
i Love Miss jay
Sense of humour is critical for survival in this life. Learn some. ;)
This guy is funny as hell!
I think it's interesting that he seems so serious when he's more personal and inofficial, while on ANTM he's extremely silly...
He's sort of right. But I love Finland!
eiku sen mielestä "museokatu - museumgatan" on pitkä sana xD haha indeed, his pronounciation was just phenomenal
Haha I liked this one. He's funny. And I think he was right about the things he said. How come he knows so many finnish words? But why are there so many bad comments about him in this video? :/

welcome to Finland! Where its cold for 10 months and really fucking cold for 2
