- Shop Manager, Tony Torchia, goes over a few key differences between your conventional D.O.T. (Department of Transportation) road tires and the new Hoosier Gravel Rally Tire that we now use on all of our rally cars
What kind of tires do you run on your car?
Can I drive rally tires on a day to day basis cause I do rally stages 4 times a week so I don't want to change tires day to day
When I'm running Rallycross in the stock class, where only DOT tires are allowed. I run the Sumitomo Ice Edge snow tires on my 2014 Ford Fiesta SE. They have a good tread pattern and have been serving me very well.
Lmao love the seductive slow motion tire paste application!
Back in the old days WRC cars got a mousse inside for punctures. Can you explain how it works and if you Are you able to use that technology in america
Are these still a radial tire? And roughly what pressure do you have to run them at?
Thanks DirtFish, Keep the videos coming, As my son and I are starting into the rally world, all the info is helpful. Les
Les Foster what car you planning to start with ?
WREX, We are looking at the 2018 Subaru STI Base model here in Canada, (we are in Calgary, Alberta) . Subaru Canada has a rally purchase plan discount. $10,000 off. Plan is to build it over next winter. Cheers, Les
That will be awesome!
thats so cool! i wich me and my dad chould do the same! but thats not gonna happen
I always assumed you ran small rims and more rubber for vertical compliance. If the side walls are that stiff, I'm guessing I was wrong? What the advantage of small rims, deep tires, over a larger rim with a thinner profile? DiftFish is on the bucket list - hope to do a day or two with you guys when the bank account allows it.
The biggest advantage with the smaller wheels is that the tire can absorb the larger rocks and bumps with less of a chance of breaking the wheel. Even though the sidewalls are so stiff, they still flex quite a bit.
This maybe a stupid question. But, can you Daily those Hoosier Rally Tires? And if so, how many miles can you get out of them?
What is the weight difference between the three tires?
Does Hoosier make snow tires?
What I want to know most is, assuming my car doesn't take one of the 4 very-similar rally sizes that exist, what's next best for playing on gravel? Snow tires? A/Ts? Forget the whole thing and stick to dirt bikes?
I have bf goodrich advantage control tyres on my small fwd shitbox and they are absolutely incredible on gravel roads the balance of the car totally changed
im going to start rallying here locally in east TN i was looking into tires and could only find them at 15in. is there a reason for this and if i wanted to turn this into a really big hobby should i invest in 15in wheels or am i just not seeing them in other sizes? for example, Dmack, Pirelli, Hoosier, and Michelin. i wanted to get some rally tires to enter and have grip on my stock 02 subaru 2.5rs but there are none in 16 or 17. So to even get tires to run i have to buy wheels too?
That's because I think WRC mandates 15" tires. So companies only make them in 15".
Would the Hoosier gravel tire provide decent grip on snow?
Typically gravel rally tires aren't great in the snow. When it comes to the snow, we use a snow rally tires, and normal DOT studded and studdless tires.
How many tires do you guys go thru in one year?
Caitlyn Jones I would also like to know 😬
You May not get a response until their giveaway is over.
A LOT!
Coulld you theoretically use a winter tire for rallys?
We wouldn't suggest it, unless you're running a winter rally. If you were to run winter tires during a gravel rally, you probably wouldn't have any tread left at the end of one stage. Rally tires are specifically made to take the abuse and still perform well.
DirtFish What’s the best entry tire for rallying? I’m looking at getting into rallying with my Accord
There isn't a specific entry-level rally tire. We would suggest the Hoosier Gravel rally tire.
Full Rally? or RallyX with a local SCCA chapter?
How much this tyres I need
Real question, is being a tire tech at dirt fish a job you can apply for 😮
7:00 The way he said "conscious" 😂
Wow... imagine If I put these Rally tires in my personal car they will last for years and don't need to be changed.
Nah. The actual rubber that gets worn out is softer. So yes, the walls will last longer, threads wont.
you need commercial vehicle tyres for thar purpose, with higher load rating. stronger structure than normal tire, same compound softness and even deeper grooves (more rubber to burn).
