The original Ruth Price audio blanked out her name, so originally for the longest time nobody knew her name. The call you hear in the video was the uncut version leaked way after
Thank you to u/Far_Valuable5819 for cracking the Ruth Price case.

I was looking for a comment like this, bro that dispatcher had the lady talking so much ( in turn making unnecessary risk ) like wtffff
seriously... 911 operators ask the stupidest fucking questions ever.
@@joshywoshy2332 unfortunatly it's part of the script. my other half worked for the uk's 999 operator and he got reprimanded for offering help over asking for details, it was a case of time was short and something had to be done there and then.
He use to work in A&E so was use to getting things done rather then asking questions.
to us listening a lot of the questions sounded dumb however the more information they have the better they can direst help to the person, it's not as bad as one i watched someone phoned up and said they had heard a gun shot from their neighbours house, the dispatcheer wanted her to look out her window to try and identify the type of gun it was.
Thats reckless endangerment right there, "yer lady just look out the window and risk getting shot at so you can tell me what gun they used."
They used the Ruth call as a training aid when I went through dispatch academy. It was terrifying. It was used as a tool to show how NOT to be a dispatcher.
Bruh 💀, how do you fail that hard after going through literal training, to the point they turn you into a example on what not to do

Dispatcher: so in SpongeBob season 3 episode 2, who did mr. Krabs yell at?”
This first call is INFURIATING ME lol
@@zyzor Spongebob
I know. I was getting pissed.
The only training I would take from the last call is: Do NOT interrupt callers when they're giving their addresses!
Exactly 💯
Very True
"What's your emergency" is something you only see on TV and movies nowadays. The very, very, very first thing you ask is what is your address for this exact reason. You never know what could interrupt a call - an intruder, the person dropping the phone running in a fire, even bad cell reception. Address first. Situation second.
Ruth’s call actually infuriated me. That dispatcher cut her off when she was giving her address. And she sounded so annoyed. I’ve had some terrible dispatchers myself. But this one…
Hmm
I'm just surprised that she lived. I thought for years that I heard somebody taking their last breath and it was a hoax.
I can’t even listen to it anymore. Those screams are bone chilling. The minute I saw her name on the screen and I had chills go up and down my spine.
In 1994, it would have been a landline and 911 systems would have instantly shown address of the call so operator was trying to save time by finding out the issue, to immediately sent help.
@@STB-jh7od I think it was a home phone.
Why do dispatchers always sound like they're annoyed that someone called?
Cause no one like to answer phone calls lol 🤣 ☎️
911 dispatchers are trained to talk in a monotone voice and hide their emotions while talking to callers. it helps prevent the person on the other end of the phone from potentially doing anything erratic or dangerous
imo, bobs "calm" tone was because he was in shock, as some people express trauma in different ways.
That's true but the interview after shows he wasn't sad about it or anything, people are often calm cause of shock but at that point he wouldn't be in shock
To me, Bob's external calmness doesn't necessarily mean that he was relaxed or unremorseful. Some people break down in the face of trauma, and other people shut down - the assumption that people who're upset or traumatised should be hysterical and inconsolable is often used to discredit the testimonies of victims, and there are so many examples of people performing that kind of emotion to seem more credible. Maybe it was a snap, spur of the moment purposeful shooting, maybe it really was an accident, that phonecall doesn't sound calm to me. It sounds resigned, he's fully aware of what's just happened and that he can't run from it. His "please send somebody" and "I'm sorry" especially just sounds so dejected and tired.
Also, looking at his body language in the interview...
It seems calm and relaxed but its definitely more closed off, anxious and broken. Like, he knows even if he acts hysterical about accidentally killing his wife, that he wont just be let off and he's accepted that he'll go to jail. To him, I bet its his way of punishing himself to repent for the relief he feels of being free of the abuse. Its over, but in the absolute worst way possible. Could just be me projecting though.
This is what I was thinking
Also like that's a pretty responsible thing to do for someone who killed their wife. Even if he planned it it's odd he didn't walk away or escape. He tried to bring her back I bet via desperation then called to say she died
You explained it really well.👏🙌
@@umamidadump2808 yeah i agree i think he definitely isn’t guilty but he wants to take the jail time because it’s still a wrong
The phone call with Ruth was probably the most terrifying call of them all. The fact that she just paused, and was then attacked gives me chills.
Who attacked her?? I didnt understod what was happening
@@bubbelgumgirl8949 The man she was calling about that was checking out her apartment. He broke in and attacked her.
This call was probably the second most chilling thing I’ve heard, just the sheer terror as she screams is horrifying. Glad it turned out she was alright tho!! I never found any information on this till now
@@cristinaestrella what's the first most chilling thing you've heard? Curiosity is getting to me haha
@@its_only_abel I would say the 911 audio of Loretta Pickard, she was an elderly woman with a walker and she was caught in an apartment fire. It's super upsetting because her dispatcher failed to inform the fire department, that she was still in the building. Her final moments were picked up on the call :((
Call #1... I absolutely agree with the people who critisized the 911 officer. She needs more training.
She needs to find a job more aligned with her intellect, such as wearing a costume outside of a cell phone store and holding a ‘Sale Today!’ sign.
The dispatcher(s) in the 3 story, had more empathy/sympathy and the damn man killed his wife
The second story with Bob, he could have been in shock. My mother’s youngest brother committed suicide when all the family was out one day. My mother who was married at the time and living away laughed when she heard about the death of her brother. It took 2 days for the shock to disparate enough that she could properly process the fact that her brother had died and was never coming back.
People process things differently.
I can say that when I feel emotions like that, i don't show it. At all. To be honest.
The laughing part was odd, but I agree with you
I had a workmates who killed herself and her brother (who also worked here) came in to resume work a day or two later. His attitude was as if he had lost a sweater, kinda "oh well, nothing we can do about it, let's move on." It was just total shock and once it really kicked in he ended up spending the next few weeks off.
When my mother ended her life I didn't react in any visible way. I shut down. I couldn't process what had happened, and due to me being an autistic (then) 15 year old, when social services came knocking to figure out a plan for these 4 newly orphaned kids, I gave incredibly blunt answers and got constant compliments for handling the situation, to quote the emergency social worker, “With more maturity than an adult after their pet dies." It wasn't until I moved into my first foster placement that I guess the finality of it all came crashing down, and for months I would cry myself to sleep most nights. I completely understand the tone of voice in Bob's phone call, and the behaviour in his interview could very well be just pure denialism; not in that it's not happened, but that it's so obvious to him that he didn't do it, so he doesn't need to worry about the chance of jail. I know from experience that deep, sudden grief makes the mind go fucky. That does hinge on his story being true, of course, but I can fully see his side of the argument and personally believe from having done my own reasearch outside of this video in the past out of morbid curiosity, that not enough non-circumstancial evidence was brought forward to convict the man.
He looks pedo
I'm so glad the girl in the first story got herself out of the place, I hope she'll recover enough to feel okay after the event
Edit: shut the fuck up with the "she'll never be okay" bullshit. I KNOW. I may not have been almost murdered but I have trauma too. I meant OKAY ENOUGH TO EXIST
Same bro
I hope Shawn Grate feels okay after the event of losing a victim. Think of how sad it is to lose a victim you were about to kill? 😞

I know, what a brave badass. Truly. My heart goes out to her. 💟
That first girl was SO damn brave. I wish we could have more “happy” endings like this.
She was, but the call infuriated me. The operator was talking so loudly when the victim clearly told her to keep quiet. That just made me really mad.
I’m currently half way in the video and I already forgot, but if I remember correctly the first girl said she was in a HOUSE and the operator still asks are you in an apartment or something like that.
Maybe there’s more to it idk, like a conformation that she’s at a house ?
@@Asmrmukbamg i think the operator wanted to confirm that she stays true to her statement and is not under any influence.
@@schokomuffin8921 yeah or sometimes idk if this would happen but the captor would force them to lie about where they are to knock the LEOs off of their scent trail or that they would say the wrong info in fear that they would be hurt
Bobs story is actually just sad. The way he reacted for me seems like he was just in absolute disbelief and couldn't process what just happened. I've been in situations too where something absolutely terrible happened and all I could do was calmly just...deal with it. Didn't have the time or energy to cry or be in hysterics or really...react at all. Just describe what happened because you can't change it anyways, deal with it, move on. To me, his reaction seemed similar. I don't think he meant to kill her, I believe that it was an accident and I feel bad for him.
Yeah it kinda sounds like he’s in shock
Thats what i was thinking. With the note, the kids, the money issues, it really all points to her trying to kill herself. Poor guy. Feel bad for the whole family really.
@@Bruh1 yeah it’s really sad
Yeah, feel he was like in shock ,he was numb for the shock of what happened, I know it's no the same no even near ,but when I got fired(like from nowhere they just told me, please come and then "you are fired" my boss was a mad woman btw) I set on a weird dissociate state I just couldn't be or act sad ,or angry or anything ,I just felt like my brain torn in half and everything was in a part I couldn't reach so I was kind or acting like robot I was incapable to felt anything at all ,even my ex boss was like "You are handling it the most ok I seee ever" and I was "yeah no big deal I'm going home bye" 😀 I took like a day until that weird state was gone, same when I had to deal with family on the hospital I just go numb and my family get weird it by this reaction
There are four stages of grief, denial being one of the first. It can last awhile. I get frustrated when justice system don't get this and that everyone responds differently to a traumatic event and go into shock. I have experience with this myself.
I wasn’t expecting that twist in the Ruth Price story. She genuinely sounded like she was seconds away from death, and at her age you wouldn’t expect her to have any strength to fight with. We all judged too quickly!
His voice makes even the scariest of stories seem calming.

Bobs story is so sad the letter clearly shows that the wife had intended to do what Bob caught her doing and the daughters testimonies just show that Bob was a victim to his wife. His reaction could’ve just been him unable to process the events and an unfortunate feeling of relief since his wife was his abuser
Exactly I feel sorry for him too.
Not to mention he probably had depression, dealing with his wife and losing all his money in the recession.
Shawn Grate is a monster. Crazy to hear the process of calling 9-1-1 and the police trying to figure out how to get in the house and then hearing them on the phone. Props to first responders. They truly don’t get enough credit considering the horrors they see on a regular basis.

Isn’t her call used for training on how NOT to operate a 911 call? If not, it definitely should, given the way the operator handled that! Fortunately, like you said, Ruth did end up surviving another 14 years.

@@maddiedoeshair5192 4 years*
If she lived for 4 more years why does he say 14 just curious
Going off of "tone" when it comes to someone's reaction to a death can be tricky, because people process grief differently. It's even more tricky when it's a situation like the one with Bob, where his relationship with the deceased is complicated. He could be hiding something, or he could be feeling a lot of conflicting emotions at once or he could just be numb due to shock. It's impossible to know.
I am beyond relieved that Ruth survived her attacker and lived another 14 years!!
Edit: 4, not 14. I'm an idiot lol
Is she dead now?
@@beep9139
I'm assuming so. It sounds like she died of old age, not the attack.
I heard this call for the first time like 5 years ago and people said that she died on that call. I thought for so long that I heard someone's life in. Hearing that she fought off the attacker brings me peace but i also feel so lied to.
enough years for a baby to be born and turn into an edgy teenager
Me too. I thought she was murdered for like 7 years now
Bob's voice sounded like someone who was distraught, some people can't fully process emotions and usually people like Bob have trouble doing so. So his voice remained as monotone as it could be. But some things he said how he shot his wife and "she's gone/done" really hit me hard. That's a saying someone only usually says in a monotone voice if they are depressed. I feel terrible for him and his wife
I was thinking the exact same thing!
aw ): poor guy
I think it was an accident as well. I believe he was in complete shock, disbelief and acceptance of what has happened. I doubt he killed her purposely. People will think differently based on his calmness. But I see it as acceptance
@@missvida6251 I too think he is in acceptance. That's why he was conversing normally.
@@AdhithyaRko especially after the years of abuse and maltreatment.
I’m relived that Ruth actually survived the attack. I first heard that phone call over 10 years ago and it was just extremely upsetting. Glad we ended up getting a much happier ending than we all thought for decades.
I first came across Ruth's call about 5-6 years ago and it stayed on my mind since, glad to know that she survived! Thanks for the update on this, and i do think that the call should be used to train dispatchers on what NOT to do in these situations
I could totally see a man who's been his wife's punching bag for so many years, no matter how hard he's tried, being that disconnected when he accidentally shoots her while trying to wrestle the gun away from her as she attempts to commit suicide. It actually makes a lot of sense, eventually when someone's been cold to you for so long, wouldn't you end up feeling pretty cold towards them in return? Not saying that's what happened, but I could believe it if it is. Sad story, even more sad if he's innocent.
Agreed!
I 100 percent agree
Thats what i thought, he didnt killed her intentionally but wasnt sad about her dying because she was mean to him since he Lost his wealth
Yes I agree with you. That seems likely. If you've been struggling with someone's alcoholism and depression there may not be many feelings left
I don't think he sounds completely unaffected, at one point his voice breaks, when he says the death was an accident. He sounds like a guy who's very good at controlling his emotional responses and habitually keeps up appearances, probably useful when you're a business man.
911: are you bleeding from anywhere?
Victim: not anymore
Just how matter-of-fact she said that is heat breaking. I'm sorry she went through that, but so glad she was able to save herself.
Also Ruth knew her life was in danger, thats why the first thing out of her mouth was her address. Her 911 call also is so sad to hear.
As for the second, Idont think he killed her, I think he was in shock and denial
A lot of men have built-in levels of high stoicism, and you can primarily see it in older men, military veterans, firefighters, hunters, and other jobs where it is of great importance to not panic or mourn until after the immediate crisis is resolved. The only ones in my family who possess this innately are myself, who served in the military, and my late grandfather, who was a mafia thug (from which he later reformed and escaped; they put a hit on him for leaving and he killed some of his assassins in self defense). Perhaps it's a rare quality, but I say from firsthand experience that some people are just like that, and it doesn't mean they don't care about tragedy.
So, I believe the guy in the 2nd story. I believed him even before I knew about the note because his behavior in the police interview and phone call accurately reflects how I or my late grandfather would respond to such a thing: putting the mission first. He should be given a fair trial and released from prison
@@devildogkogg8353 That same feature is in me as well. I saw both of my maternal grandparents heave their last breaths. However, not a single tear came out of my eyes! I still think something's wrong with me.
@@Farhan_049 i have that issue where i dont really feel anything in similar situations of loss or where i realistically should be feeling sorrow or panic .thankfully i havent lost any loved ones yet, but i have a feeling that i wont react if i do.
@@rangeetch.lahiri2120 Some people say having some childhood trauma causes that. I can think of two such events. My parents used to (still do sometimes) compare me with my cousins or classmates. I'm an average scorer, well, I score between 60-80 marks, and cross 90 on a good day. My Mom especially, wanted me to be a scholarship kid. I failed her expectations. The 2nd would be walking in on my first ever girlfriend kissing some other guy vigorously behind our school canteen. That shook me up bad! I still feel unworthy of love.
I researched a little and there's a chance that these are eating me up from the inside. I went to counselling and it didn't help much. I was recommended a few methods to not think about the canteen incident, which have helped, but only a little. I think I'm permanently broken, but constantly trying to be better.

Regarding the Diane Ward story: Honestly, he probably cried when his wife died and comes off happy and cheerful as a way to mask his sadness. Some people tend to grieve like that.
the guy whos wife was shot could have been in shock hence the dead pan tone in his voice. He just walked in on his wife attempting to end her own life and in the struggle to save her he ended up killing her.

I agree with the 1rst story people getting mad at the 911 operator. She has to be loud enough for the person to hear here, but she was *way* too loud for someone in the same room as the captor.
I think she did great
And the loudness is likely because it was recorded from her end so it comes more clearly and louder
It's not like it was on speaker so it normally wouldn't have been that loud to begin with I would been more worried that the girls whispers would have woken him up as he more likely would have heard that over the phone
It only seems loud because it was the recording from the police. I'm sure she turned the volume down.
She should’nt have asked anything more than the address any more talking just put her in danger
The dispatcher needed to get information other than the address for the cops in case the person had a weapon, the layout of the house, etc to make the rescue easier

Notice how long it takes for the victim to communicate that she is in the same room as the kidnapper though. And the moment she says that he is in the same bedroom, the victim sets off the taser and the operator tells her to put the phone down. The call does go on longer, and the operator does ask more questions, however something that some people don't understand is that by answering questions, you are giving the victim the illusion of progress. If you leave the victim to sit in silence, the seconds will pass like minutes. The victim's panic will increase. And then the victim (with less voice control) will begin to ask "when are the coming. Why arent they here?" over and over, thus making more noise. There is a function to keeping the victim talking, even in scenarios like this.

The dispatcher in the first video, "Which bedroom?". Bih does it matter!? A BEDROOM!!
Thank you for clarifying what happened to Ruth. ♥️ I seriously had spent years thinking the worst. That call is to this date the scariest one I’ve ever heard partly due to the fact that no one ever stated the outcome and it was always suspected the worst had happened.
I remember hearing the Ruth Price call many years ago. It actually terrified me so much that I never listened to any 911 call stories ever again. I’m glad she survived because I really thought her life ended in the midst of that call.
The dispatcher in the first story is asking to many questions.....just send units to the address and let the police ask why and how she ended up with him.
She most likely sent them instantly and was asking as many questions as possible in case anything happend to her or she had to hang up.
With the address and basic info of imminent danger, the dispatcher sends units out immediately. They HAVE to ask the caller as much info in case the police don't make it in time and to use in the case.
@@Fatasscock i was on the edge of my seat lol so im like kill the questions
@@stepherpeppers True
If you listen to the full call you hear that there's a few abandoned houses in that immediate vicinity and the police don't know for sure which one it is. If she just hung up after giving some details to the 911 operator she would probably have been killed.
I just wanted you to know how appreciative I am for the years of scary stories! Thank you Mr. Nightmare! 👻

To me it feels as though Bob's case is a tough one to decide guilt. It is completely likely that he killed his wife in cold blood, especially if she had started to become abusive as his daughters claimed, but it is also entirely possible that it was an accident and he was in a state of mental shock and his mind was trying to cope with the trauma by some level of disassociation.
jane in the first one was so brave for managing to escape and call the police. in situations so bad you usually can’t think straight, so the fact she thought through all of this, she’s amazing
10:50 "She's dead, She's done"
Wow, that's so heartbreaking. He could have easily said that she killed herself, but he didn't. He has been a part of this accident and he doesn't want to escape or lie. His outlook was not remorseful because he has accepted the reality. He's been a punching bag and it must have become really mundane for him. He's already bankrupted, his wife is suicidal, depressed and also creating drama which has exhausted him to the point where he is shut down. So, now, he has accepted that his life is gonna turn upside down. Poor man. Hope he's in a better place, mentally.
This is exactly how I see it. He’s a real man and he’s living in reality.
I remember first hearing about that Ruth Price call about six or seven years ago back before there was any real follow up information on it, and remember thinking how real that scream sounded. I mean, fear is a hard thing to simulate and that was a legitimate fear scream for sure. Had always heard the woman was murdered though, so I'm relieved to know that she survived the attack and kept rolling for another decade.
the girl: "help, he's very close to me" *very quietly*
911 opperater: "WHAT DID YOU EAT FOR DINNER ON AUGUST 17TH 2002?" *as loud as humanly possible*
I am glad to know the Ruth Price situation had a happy ending
“does he own the house?” wtf was that operator thinking? why would a kidnapped woman know if her abductor owns the house she’s trapped in?
Tax records. You can find out what property people owe at least in my state by name.
@@skyshot09 i feel like it’s stupid to ask a kidnapped lady that question.
@Reasonable Centrist I dont think a reasonable assumption is that the kidnap victim saw his tax records
She was talking too much, jus send the cops n stop asking question
Obviously if I just kidnapped someone, the first thing I'd do is show them my tax papers and the deed to the house lol
In Bob's story, I feel like he was just so calm cause he was either in shock and disbelief over the whole thing, and sometimes people will act calm and collected when that happens. Or, because of how the wife had treated him, though it was an accident, maybe he was just relieved that he wasn't victim to her abuse anymore and wasn't actually sad at what happened.
Caller: PLEASE HELLP.
Dispatcher: Joe mama here
I AM SO HAPPY RUTH WAS OK, not alot of 911 calls really scared or disturbed me to the point where I couldn't stop thinking about them and she is one of them. Almost all videos of it say she was murdered. Which makes the scream so much more terrifying. I'm so happy that she was alright she sounded so sweet. Rip Ruth 🙏
You can't judge a person's behavior after a traumatic event. We all react differently. It's like judging a person for not crying at their child's funeral. We all grieve and react to pain completely different. He was most likely in shock. And it sounds as if he possibly endured some abuse as well.

i haven’t heard that last call in years from sm sleepovers, cannot say how much of a relief it is to finally hear there was concealment and she survived
I can totally understand Bob’s reaction. He was probably in shock on the night. He knew her death was inevitable. Anyone that has experienced emotional abuse from a suicidal person they love would feel hollow by the time it happened. The fact that he failed to stop her and even would be implicated would further drive the emptiness. But if he knew he wasn’t guilty it would make sense for him to appear calm. If he was guilty, I imagine his first call would have been to his lawyer

Thank God that Ruth survived. The old lady was a bad ass👏🏻
Well that guy in the second story that supposedly shot his wife could've been in some kind of shock. Or maybe he was putting up a front to keep from breaking down.
Exactly my thought. A lot of people react to stress that way especially if they were parentified young or have histories of being relied on heavily by others
I agree...he stated that he'd just shot her about 5 minutes before he called, definitely some form of shock.

I believe The dude who shot his wife is having so much emotional stress he literally cant show it. There is a term for it, but i believe its something like a stress overload? Also one can be so depressed to the point og "CHK CHK'ING" themselves, but can seem like a completely normal individual. so keep that in mind.

We still don't know if she survived. He shows an obituary which states she died in 1994 at 80 years old, then shows a newspaper from 1980 about an assault on Ruth Price aged 76. She couldn't be 76 in 1980 and 80 in 1994. Maybe there's a typo but I think it might just be the wrong person.
@Zhongli Supremacy I know but if you read the dates on the news paper they dont add up.
@@raoulduke344, ikr. That had me confused too.
Good job on figuring out the Ruth call. I have seen it several times and no one knew the back story.
for Bob, people cope in different ways. not everyone is going to cry
2nd Story: If the wife was abusive, had bouts of depression and alcoholism, that takes a toll on the husband. Repeating that cycle will lead to feelings of hopelessness. I can understand not understanding the monotone voice and lack of emotion but that is specifically how many men who have been through relationships like this will act. Men handle emotional trauma differently. I have lived among similar men in my family and I too struggle with similar trauma. I'm not saying the guy is necessarily innocent, I just want to point out why he may act that way.
Yeah throughout the story I just kept thinking he obviously doesn’t sounds happy and how else is he suppose to react? He probably blamed himself for her death too and didn’t try to fight it :(

Looking further into it, this wasn't even a 911 call, 911 hadn't been established nationwide yet and it's very likely she was calling directly to the police department, which is probably why the operator sounds so unprepared.
