  • UPDATE: I have not seen a new bamboo shoot for many months - this method has worked really well!
I’ve been digging up new bamboo shoots, but a few months ago I tried something different.
I cut off the new growth and poured a little concentrated poison into the open stalk.
This worked well on killing the new growth, but did it have any effect on the roots (rhizomes)?
Watch this video and find out!

I have the same problem as you and I found a concentrate that will work. But I am going too cut the bamboo as close too the ground as possible so the poison is able too penetrate down too the roots better. I think it will work but time will tell. Good video. Thank you.

I'm curious to know exactly what kind of concentrated poison was used? It definitely had an effect down to the root.

I used an organic poision called Slasher.

You’ll definitely know if it worked when springtime rolls around.

I’m curious, why didn’t you cut the bamboo of just about an inch or so above the ground? Seems like the concentrated poison would go into the roots better since it didn’t have to travel as far.

Good point, I had cut the bamboo first, then got the idea to poision. In hindsight yes, cutting short is a good idea

There is out of control bamboo growing in my backyard. It has grown so Wild to the point that it is in between the concrete slab of my house and the back door and we feel like it will start growing under the house does anybody know any chemical that can kill this bamboo plant in this area?

Cut back the bamboo and dig a rhizome barrier.

The best thing to do is to dig it out, if you don't they will keep coming back.

The same thing is happening to me! I live in south Florida Port St. Lucie area, it’s gone into my grout lines in between the block! I’m digging it out but I need poison to kill it because I can’t dig under my house… it’s a nightmare. Stupid previous owner planted the wrong type of bamboo. I just dug out a 2 foot deep “mat” of dense roots. It’s crazy how this grows. Would be good for erosion control but never anywhere near a home or concrete slab.

Ive inherited with my house. I hate it, and am kicking myself for buying a house with it in the garden. I only plant native plants myself, unless in pots. Ill have to save up the money to get someone to do it, as ive limited mobility. (* beats head on desk)

Please don't use a band saw. That's a whole lot of unnecessary work and will screw up the blade really quick.
Use a machete (the heavier, the better) and some branch cutters.

my stupid neighbors planted this bullshit and I had to rent a backhoe to get it out, the bamboo was almost 4 inches in circumference in some areas the backhoe had a hard time getting them out toke me 6 hours non-stop but those bamboo are growing again

Well , you should really learn how bamboo grows. The “root “ was a rhizome. You are doing a ton of work , buying poisonous chemicals and accomplishing nothing. I’ll let you figure that one out. It’s running bamboo. 👌

Please protect this beautiful planet by planting more and more trees and plants. Otherwise the earth will become desert. My humble request to you all, please don't cut or dry the green trees and green plants.. Save this beautiful planet..

Bamboo overrunning someone's yard can be replaced by other plants. That is the point for me. My neighbor planted bamboo next to his fence and it is growing into my wild blackberry patch so far. It will take over my entire yard and I have trees and other food-growing areas. I am working toward having food-producing areas and doing away with mowing. So bamboo will really harm all of that for me. It already is getting in the way of that.

You think cutting green plants and trees will destroy the planet ? I’m still laughing. 🤣🤣🤣
