      Exactly! This is the counterargument I provide to those who say that raising the age to buy or own a semiautomatic rifle from 18 to 21 is ridiculous because an 18 year old can be in the military....
      1. Their firearms are usually locked up and "well regulated" during basic training or on base.
      2. Those individuals go through a screening process, including for mental health, when they apply to join the military, and they can be removed from service at any time if they show signs of mental instability that would make them a clear danger to arm.
      3. Those individuals are trained and drilled in gun safety.

Like all of the current republican leaders in Texas, Beto won't piss on your back and tell you it's raining. he simply shares his wisdom, sincerity and vision he has for Texas. And THAT'S what draws the applause. I've drank coffee with Beto, had Whataburger with him, had numerous conversations about music, Texas, the great diversity in this state, whatever. And this is how Beto is all the time. He's a truly good and decent guy, who loves Texas and Texans more than any politician I've seen come along in a LONG time. Why I've campaigned for him in the past, and why I am again. If you're a Texan, you know the last truly good governor we had was Ann Richards. Since her, republicans have been in charge of this state the last 30 years, and they've turned it into a laughing stock all over the world. It's time for a change and Beto is by far the best man for this job. So please, keep paying attention to him. @@Jezzebel1313 This is the thing about "freedom"...i think many outsiders often have very different concepts of what that now sadly incredibly loaded word means.
      I'm Canadian, so
      1) We get an enormous amount of US media, and are hugely impacted by when goes on politically south of the border (some of what I would consider are the most destructive ideologies from the US are making in roads here)
      2) We have universal access to health care through a single payer system.
      For many like me, we see that single payer system as SUPPORTING our freedom. It allows us to not be beholden to corporations or insurance companies for basic health necessities. That means we have more freedom to move jobs and locations. For many, that is a much more important and life impacting freedom.
      For myself, I have little to no confidence that a corporation with primarily a profit motive will ever really be interested in consistently protecting my freedoms. As such, I'd much prefer for the state to be the one to provide the basic services like health care. I've noticed that there is a much more popular, neo-liberal ideology in the US that distrusts the state more than corporations, and as such believes the market mechanism is the best way to ensure freedoms. I'll admit I still haven't been able to wrap my head around the logic of this belief that the profit motive is somehow a better mechanism to guarantee that fundamental freedoms are protected, and often think of what Keynes said here:
      "Capitalism is the astounding belief that the most wickedest of men, will do the most wickedest of things, for the greatest good of everyone."

      @antonyware Před rokem

      @@gregsorem4361 you do realize the constitution was always meant to be a breathing document, correct? Otherwise, there would be no process for amendments and I would still be a slave. Having a right to owning a gun is a right and this right isn’t being removed. But if someone is unfit to carry a weapon that kills other Americans, you feel this right should be unlimited to the point where we know someone is mentally unstable and has a mission to take out a grocery store full of people. You feel the red flag should be ignored and the person should have their guns because the right to bear arms is paramount and should not be altered under any circumstances? So give the arsonist an unlimited supply of blow torches basically? It’s that that thinking that causes us to continue to have the highest rate of mass shootings and gun related deaths than any other country on the planet. Now our kids aren’t even safe in a classroom but sure, let’s make sure there are no restrictions to carrying a weapon 👍🏽👍🏽
