  • @JHebertSide95
    @JHebertSide95 Před 2 lety +4

    While I understand why people are concerned with ratings for AEW and WWE, keep in mind, Neilson has been out of date with the advent of streaming. There are many ways to watch television that isn’t calculated by Neilson. There is a very good chance AEW is at least doing 2 million, maybe even 3 million in this country. People also do use DVR numbers, and AEW does break around 1.3 to 1.4 in the Neilson rating. WWE also has high DVR numbers also. Plenty of people also watch both shows on Hulu as far as I’m aware. So I think the concern is a bit screwed because we don’t have all the information yet.

    So damn. I can't lie seeing Paul London on this is what brought me hear yesterday finally finishing up today. Rene wow. What a great podcast I love that you don't cut anyone off and talk when needed so good also shows you care. I remember seeing y'all wrestle for the titles at summerslam in Phoenix unreal to know what you were going through all that while we were booing you. Also I doubt Paul will see this but when he won the tag titles in Phoenix I remember jumping up and down on my couch. Stuff like that made me a mark which later led me to actually reffing matches. So I agree with were all marks at some point and that is what should lead us to the business. I'm a solid listener from this point on.

  • @TSMAPgtar56
    @TSMAPgtar56 Před 2 lety +2

    Loved listening to this. To Rene's point towards the end about how the cat's out of the bag and how you play your part as well (to which Paul had his own good answer), I think Jerry Jarrett once said that he figured only about a quarter of his consistently-paying, consistently-showing audience figured that all of the wrestling in his territory was a shoot. Marks had all kinds of rationalizations for it back in the territory days: "Well those undercard guys, it's all phony, but that Lawler is the real deal," and "The guy in charge has the fix in, but when the title's on the line, those boys go into business for themselves," and the like.
    A few mantras of Cornette's are "Personal issues draw money," and "Say what you will about the wrestling business, but those two are mad at each other." You guys are giving away some inside-baseball, but if the actual people calling the shots within pro-wrestling could heed the advice, they could be drawing fucktons of money more on top of the fucktons they already make. Even with kayfabe having been dashed to pieces by the time I was a small child, I, as an adult, would be able to buy into a program based on the story you guys told about Rene and Bob Holly. Fantasy booking notwithstanding, I could believe that there is longtime heat there for what went down years ago. If a whole back-and-forth took form, and then the idea of a fight to settle the score was kicked about, and then all of a sudden it's in the works, even while there would be one voice in my head saying "Y'know they're working you," there'd be another - just as loudly - saying "But they really might wanna fuck each other up on live TV."
    Angles can still be built and booked, and all the other shit in between doesn't have to go a mile a minute like Cirque du Soleil on amphetamines. If only (and once again, this is a total fantasy, I know) the bigger promotions - and the talent they employed - could commit to presenting their "product" seriously for a long-enough period of time, one could easily lose oneself in it without taking a step back and feeling like a total idiot for it. So don't feel guilty, Rene.
    And yeah, also you guys are just fucking fun to listen to. London's story about Boogeyman and Stevie Richards had me rolling. Consider me subscribed.

    I want to respond to Paul about the crazy theorists. People can easily look upon him as someone who drinks up the propaganda in response. So the question is; do you completely trust the mainstream media? That what it comes down to: Theorists vs Propagandists.
    Let me put it in a pro wrestling sense: as of this date we heard nothing from Naomi and Sasha Banks concerning their walkout, but I should believe whatever WWE pushes right now concerning their incident WITHOUT question because they're a mainstream corporation.
    News stations are owned by billionaires and ran by human beings, and you can see the state of CNN right now quickly going downhill in their credibility the past several years.

      They are the same height as him but at least he hit the gym. You don't have to look like a roid freak, you just have to put in some damn effort and try to look like an athlete. The "Vanilla Midgets" of yesteryear at least looked in better shape than the fans, there are a lot of indie guys who look have the bodies of teenagers.
      I swear Vince going so hard in the bodybuilder direction made people contrarian and go to the opposite extreme. Even Kevin Owens has straight up said in interviews that he doesn't go to the gym, there are plenty that still do but that needs to be the standard.

      he was always small but he also worked out and was mainly a cruiserweight or tag wrestler and he would wrestle small plus he was never above the mid card. Most of the wrestlers on aew are his size or smaller and don't sell or sell big and don't work out too much. Even the dudes I like now are small and that's fine in a mix of a bunch of dudes of all shapes and sizes and when they mostly lose when put against big dudes or main carders and still put on great matches but when top to bottom its smaller dudes and the big guys have to still work like they aren't cruiserweights and constantly lose to them it looks silly. Brain cage has long matches he mostly loses with dudes the size of the jobbers ryback would have 3 on one squash matches with and ryback was nowhere near the size of cage if we are talking muscle mass and physic. like if we are taking realism into aew why cant the bigger or tougher wrestlers fight these small twitch streamers I can only suspend my belief so far with so many people but when the company expects me to do it for everyone its just too much.

    What the actual fuck man. I can't believe a WWE trainer would rather have a wrestler not to seek immediate medical attention just because they don't want a record and pay for it. And they have the audacity to tell people not to attempt wrestling moves at home when you have people who are actually doing them in the ring, risking their lives just so top managment can earn a fat pay cheque and not provide their wrestlers a safe working environment. I've heard of stories like hazing and bullying but never anything like that. So glad both Paul and Rene are out of that company and thriving outside of WWE.

    God, WWE locker room stories from this time are always absolutely nightmarish - like, this podcast almost has the air of an impromptu therapy session.
    That said, even if it's not all flattering I really respect how cathartic and validating it must feel for two people who went through this shit together to be able to air it all out and be able to laugh about it years later. Glad both these guys are in a better place now and I wish 'em the best.

    Unless darby allin has martial arts or street fighting background he's not taking on somebody like Brian Cage it is possible for a 150 lb guy to beat somebody like him but he has to have some fighting experience and technique he has to be like a combat veteran or something

    Not sure if it’s like this for everyone, but apparently this episode isn’t working on the Apple Podcasts app. Was trying to listen to it on my way to work today, but it kept giving the “unable to play/download failed” message when I tried listening or downloading it.
