- Donald Hyche of Champaign, Illinois enlisted in the United States Marines Corps in 1969 and served until 1973. He was an area door gunner on a helicopter in Vietnam from 1970 - 1971. Hyche was an only child. Born in Northport, Alabama, he grew up in the Englewood neighborhood of Chicago in the 1950s. To his mother’s dismay, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps during the height of the American War in Vietnam. Hyche talks about his experiences in battle, race relations, drug use and prostitution. He is deeply reflective about the costs of killing on his spirit and mind. Diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder, Hyche discusses his long struggle towards recovery with hope that other veterans similarly impacted will seek help.

This is a great interview , I could listen to this man forever.
The interviewer is by far the best one I've heard. There haven't been any stupid questions, and she has let Mr Hyche just roll with it. It's just an awesome interview . Thank you Sir for your service.
This is a phenomenal interview…thanks to Mr Hyche and the interviewer whose insightful questions yielded this veteran’s candid and often complex answers. Great stuff !
I have listened to a lot of interviews with Vietnam vets. And this is far and away the best. No interruptions by the Interviewer asking stupid questions.
“Do you want to go back?” “Noooooo!”
Plenty of wisdom from Mr Hyche.
Great interview. Thank you.
Thank you for your service Mr. Hyche.
Very wise and intelligent brotha! Has to be the best Vietnam documentary interview I ever watched. So real and insightful. Thank you Mr. Hyche. Semper Fi!

OG did great recalling his experience! I watch veteran interviews because I work with so many ! I’ve notice they are always the cream of the crop and got inspired to understand where that dignity comes from. They have my upmost respect !
Absolutely the best video on vets and the Vietnam War by far!
Thank you , Mr. Hyche, for giving this interview, and for your service. You have given me a greater insight into the warriors life. You certainly have a story to tell and you tell it extremely well. God Bless you. Welcome Home, Sir.🇺🇲

.
Excellent interview, and a genuine person who’s so aware of himself.
There is an awful lot to be said about this interview but I don’t have the ability. All of the commentators thus far have started the process though. It has to be one of the best and widest spectrum of the subject I’ve ever listened to. Excellent man with greatest perspective. Welcome home.
Thank you for your service and honesty.
The best one ever!
I learned so much without political undertones about Vietnam. This was a real firsthand account.
Thank you for your service Donald
Thank you, shared.
Excellent interview.
too bad the interviewer was more interested in racial tensions than letting Sgt. Hyche speak.
Great interview. This dude just looks like a Marine!
Thank you, Sgt.. I am very grateful for having come upon and listened to this interview of your experience. God bless you.
Man you the best.
This is my uncle, he recently passed away in 2022 R.I.P uncle I love you

@@stephenthomas9292 thanks
@@wellitsherenow I didn’t ask him before he died
Good man!!!
This man is telling the truth 💯
A man is a man no color can take that away
We all bleed red
Always trouble that is swept under the carpet. Will we ever learn that it is not going to work?
I just seen a deal on tv that showed how much stronger pot is today compared to the stuff in Vietnam. And here he says the opposite.
yes sir God means that he says amen. everything God has laid out for us is serious and it's us prideful and sinful humans try to talk around it and justify our disobedience yet the truth is the truth. very good honest ending thank you sir
This is the first thumb down I’ve given. I’m a Vietnam veteran and I saw a little racism however to say the military was racist was wrong. I saw just as much racism from the blacks as from the whites. I was there from 68-69 and spent close to 10 1/2 months in the field and in the field and never saw racism.
razor blades is true story
better you then me
For those who dont know.
This is the one.
Pure and honest.
This is the truth.
