Tiny soviet dormitory? Apartment tour and news about leaving Russia
VloĆŸit

- Hi! My name is Alena and in this video I will show you my soviet apartment. That's not a typical russian dormitory, it's a communal apartment. Communal apartments appeared in the Soviet Union following the October Revolution of 1917. The term communal apartment is a product of the Soviet epoch. The concept of communal apartments grew in Russia and the Soviet Union as a response to a housing crisis in urban areas; authorities presented them as the product of the "new collective vision of the future."
Between two and seven families typically shared a communal apartment. Each family typically had only one room, which usually served as a living room, dining room, and bedroom for the entire family. All the residents of the building shared the use of the hallways, kitchen (commonly known as the "communal kitchen"), bathroom and rarely telephone.

Alena, it's really good to hear from you again. I'm sure that I'm not the only one who has missed you. Your dorm looks tiny but if it suits your purpose and is comfortable, it's perfect, for now. I look forward to seeing your new adventures. Please stay safe. Much love from Texas, USA.
P,S. I just read the description. Thanks for the history lesson too.
Thanks for the update :D
Same! Iâve been wondering how sheâs doing too! Itâs a relief to finally see her face again!
@@ariavril5434 It's a relief indeed. I hope she can update us again soon.
@@beachbum77979 me too! I think I know where she is heading so Iâm thinking we will be getting updates from her and possibly updates about her via other CZcamsrâs. đ
I'm really relieved by the ending comments for your own personnel safety reasons, I'm sure it's tough leaving so much behind but sometimes leaving is a much better option than staying put. Good luck in personnel growth journey and don't leave us all hanging to long before updating us on next landing spot.
That was one of the most charming videos I have seen an a while.
This is bringing back memories of the day my Russian language partner showed me their dorm that looked exactly like this. I honestly thought they had it good because it was a place of their own something I did not have at the time.
Thanks for showing us your apartment - I'm glad that you got out and you're safe with Natasha. Sending you positive vibes that you are able to make a good life far away from the tyranny.
So great to hear from you, Alena! Glad you're OK and planning for the future!

All the best at your new destination ! Would be nice to see some of your new artworks in your next few upcoming videos once possible ! :) Đ©Đ°ŃŃлОĐČĐŸ ! đ
Can't wait to see where you end up next! Happy Travels!
Glad to hear from you again. It's been awhile. Glad you are safe and well. Anyway, I can't wait to see what great new adventures you will take in the next chapter of your life. Please keep us up to date. Until then, stay warm.

Finally another video...I love you! Thanks!

Thanks for the tour! Best wishes in your travels.. Your English is awesome!đ€đâ
Thanks for sharing! Hope you love wherever you're moving to next
I am so happy to hear from you. I have been concerned about how you are doing since Natasha moved. Youâre new flat looks comfortable. Keep posting!!
Lovely to watch your entertaining videođ. Safe journey to your next destination.!

Happy to see another video, I missed you and your videos
Thank you for sharing , it's interesting to see for sure. Stay safe !
Glad youâre back!
Such a droll presentation. The pizza story with the babushka was a little gem. Best wishes in your travels. May you soon be reunited with friends and supporters.
Good luck! Looking forward to next upload.
Glad to see you again. Love your videos. Good luck in your endeavors.
Alena, đđI am âlaughing my ass outâ watching this video! Seriously though, you are a joy to watch. I love your cutting sense of humor in a challenging situation. Your dorm apartment looks nice despite the wallpaperđ . God bless and protect you in your travels. Let your light shine! â€ïžNY
All the best where ever you go. I hope you will continue bringing these very unique videos. Maybe you find a way to get a bit less depressed. The exit was brilliant.
Thanks, Alena. Nice video.
I was so happy to see you in Natashaâs recent video enjoying Christmas in Tablisi. I hope 2023 brings you new opportunities and great success. Rock on!
Khabarovsk is just the right size for a city. It is large enough to have cafes, museums, and the arts and also can still grow in population without getting overcrowded. Thank you for taking us inside a Soviet-styled apartment.
You always make me laugh! Can't wait to hear about the next adventure!
It is wonderful to see you again Alena. Thanks for the tour of your apartment. Best wishes on your move to a new country. Looking forward to finding out where you have gone.
Love your candid talkđ„°đ„°đ„°
Love your sense of humor. I am amazed at how well you speak English. Glad to hear from you again. Best of luck!
Decent looking little pad. The pizza story was great, I can almost hear that angry babushka laying into the poor delivery guy :) Fingers crossed for a video with Natasha in the near future. Safe travels Alena
All the best Alena and good luck to you . Im looking forward to seeing your next video
I'm excited to hear where you are going next. Love and support. Be safe. đ
Good luck in your new destination Alena. Dry humour is the best.
Good luck and safe travels on your move. I realize that you have an independent point of view and hope whereever you settle will be more conducive and supportive of you and your views.
Nice to see you again Alena, and best wishes for the future from Massachusetts! đđđđ
Thank you Alena for showing us around your apartment and Im glad you have somewhere that meets your needs for the moment...clean bright and central ! More videos please
as they are always good to watch...Bestest wishes from London.
Alena this brings me back to college and the third floor walkup in a brownstone on Beacon Street in Boston. Myself and 3 friends shared a "four bedroom" apt with rooms not much larger than yours but with a shared bathroom. Glad you're exiting Russia as I have said before with your talents I believe you will have no problem prospering in this next stage of your life. Don't be such a stranger I miss that sense of humor of yours đđ
I like it Alena! :) Smaller places are more cozy and homey. It's great to have privacy and your own space. Good luck in your travels and future endeavors. Much love and respect from Tennessee, USA.
Good luck on your travels!!!
Glad to see you again and glad you are safe. Nice to see you again.
Sooo happy to watch another video from you, Alena (means you are doing fine I assume ;) ) !
Good to get a video from you... That place actually looks very functional. In any case, all the best on your travels and hope to hear from you once you've settled. Btw, the shared appartment thing sounds similar to a WG (Wohngemeinschaft) in Germany, which is the usual way of life for students...
It's so nice to see a new video from you. Good luck on your next adventure!
Love your personality. Cracks me up every time
So glad to hear from you again. Lots of love from Belgium †đ
Quite interesting -- you made a very small living space into a comfortable and unique home for yourself. Nevertheless, I am happy that you are moving on and have decided to leave your present situation for a better one. Good to hear from you, Alena.
Glad to have an update. what a surprising apartment, good luck finding something nicer đ Off to Tiblisi ? Have fun!
nice presentation and the way you explained it you already made your world there, happy new year âș
Wow, such a beautiful apartment you lived in. I absolutely love the way you ended this video. Best of luck to you in your future outside of Russia, and I hope you find beauty and gentleness in this world!
This girl sounds like a spoiled brat.
Beautiful?
OMG! Look at all those appliances!! Especially that nice and new looking LG washing machine... Whereâd they all come from?!? đ
Nice to see you again Alena! Itâs too bad you donât share your awesome dry humour and wittiness with us more often, but I understand that youâve probably been busy. Didnât think youâd be leaving so soon, but Iâm happy for you! Hope youâre happy and excited about the future too (even with all the unknowns, since theyâre the most fun part)!! Maybe try to drop by every once in a while to say hello while on your journey, that is of course if you can find the time to âedit a videoâ... đ
Take care and safe travels!
đ đ
Great video. Good luck in your travels. I hope you keep making these videos.
You have, and will, so much to enjoy! Keep going! It will be very cool to see you smiling more often!
I love your videos it's funny and interesting in the same time đ
Wow! Loved the apartment tour! You're right-your going to look back at this and laugh. Wishing you the very best move-out of Russia- keep us updated on your adventures!
Thank you for sharing videos with your experiences ... it is a unique time and place you are witnessing - Best wishes of success, and please be safe. - from New Mexico, USA
Nice 1. Happy holidays and all the best.
It is good to see you posting again. Your dorm apartment (or is it the other way around) is small, but not as small as some Japanese accomodations or cage living in Hong Kong.... OMG those are small. Glad to hear you will only be here for a bit and that you can make a future outside of Russia.
Honestly, your apartment looks pretty cozy. It always intrigues me how others live in the rest of the world. So thanks for sharing and good luck on leaving Russia and hope everything works out for you.
this literally cost like 150 USD to live in. Not everyone in russia lives in tiny soviet apartments.
To be honest, it is not so much the country itself that is to blame as these people, they are Russians, pigsđœ, where they cannot be settled everywhere will be the same. I myself live in this country, but my place is very clean, beautiful and tidy. Cleanly not where they clean, cleanly where they do not litter.
@@liamneslind5708exactly!! Is this meant to be indicative of all Russian life?! Thereâs plenty of people who live quite comfortably and happy in Russia, and plenty of alternative sites that follow foreign nationals who have made Russia their home!! Thereâs residual problems if course from Soviet times but this is often exploited to paint Russia in a wholly negative, depressant light , as though most countries donât have their own societal and political issues regardless of where you go!! I suspect if this isnât a fifth columnist account, many would be drawn to it to inform their Russia-phobic tendencies!! Now I think Iâll head straight over to those other pages for a bit of balanceâŠ.đ đ€·đ»ââïž
@@nicolarobinson3140 very observant. I grew up in the USSR and now live in the US. Let me tell you, in my travels I've seen plenty of disadvantaged places in the US that don't even measure up to that old Soviet life - and once you add crime and drugs into the picture, that supposedly horrid Soviet & Russian life Alena dreads in her trembling voice, would be as remote to them as some advanced species on an alien planet. I really wish I could buy Alena a ticket & have her spend a few nights in Camden, NJ. See how she likes it.

Many Russians sure looove to complain. This pre-dates modern Russia or the USSR even - Russian poet Pushkin writes about this national self-loathing trait back in the early 1800's. In New York it's common to find a Russian emigrant with a couple of doctorate degrees from the old country (for neither of which he had to pay a dime) who speaks of his homeland poorer than his fellow emigrant from say Mozambique, who got hardly anything but malaria from his motherland.
good luck on your next adventure Alena.
Great to see your update at the end! Love the t-shirt đ! Looking forward to your next video from a new location. Freedom! Cheers from Texas! đ»đ
Cool video Alena đđ» interesting to see your apartment there, looks pretty good to me.
You're leaving eventually, good for you đ
Nice to see you again, look forward to the next đ
P.S you're so funny, your humour is great.
I loved this video, even if it was bitter sweet, because you gave us a glimpse into your home. It was more personal. Will you be reuniting with your friend Natasha? Also, will you still be making videos from your new home? Please say you will. I really hope this is NOT your last. Good luck and take care on this new stage in life. May you find happiness and may you continue to create and succeed in life!
Love your spontaneous sense of humour, good luck on your travels to your new domain, I hope you find peace and growth wherever you go.
Good to see you again, Alena! You have exactly the same model of washing machine as I do!
Glad you're getting out of Russia. Looking forward to seeing the video tour of your new home. Stay safe!
Kinda glad I watched all the way to the end, or I would have missed the BIG news - looking forward to updates đż The apartment is a weird mix of Soviet + Modern, and your Granny story backs that up đ” Pretty cozy though; I can't say I didn't live in a place just like this at one point đ€Ș
I told you she was a KGB agent. Getting intelligent on western people's through CZcamsr
Hi Alena. I really enjoyed watching the video. I like how chill it was. I feel like you could make a video about washing dishes in the bathroom sink and it would still be interestingđđ. Iâm glad to hear that youâre getting out of Russia(Iâve been worried about your safety). Iâm looking forward to seeing where you are going(maybe youâll meet up with Natasha again?đ€). Thank You for this video and I canât wait to see you again in the next oneâ€ïž.
P.S. Iâve noticed on your other videos that you mostly reply to comments that were posted recently after the video was released. I suspect that you might not check the comments often after a certain period of time has elapsed. You should go back and check more often! There are some really cool people posting comments that donât get any acknowledgment from you.
Wishing you the best future Alena. Take care 'n enjoy being young. Time goes by too fast.
Wow this was fun to watch. Thanks!
2:30 Alena: Sippin' espresso, listening to Taylor Swift. Communal apartment babushka: sippin' kvass, listening to Kino. Best of both worlds. đ I'm so glad you're alright! Please at least check in periodically with us with a little community post or something saying that you're still alive, still depressed, etc. đ Much love from America! đ€
Your apartment looks really nice but canât wait to see upload from a different country. Safe travelsâźïž
Looking forward to the next update :)
Hi from canada đâ€ïž
Love your videos
Youâre honestly my favourite CZcamsr
5:58 "I just don't want to know if it's true or not." lol
Be safe in leaving the country. We are all pulling for you!!!! Love the editing as always, you may have a knack as a film editor in your future fellow Pisces!
It's a nice cozy apartment with everything but the kitchen sink...literally.
Hah-Hah! Nice one, Mithrandir.
Thanks for showing us your apartment it looks interesting. I love the music that plays for the first few minutes I think it's a perfect fit for this apartment showcase. Good luck at your new country and please keep making videos for us.
That was cool. Very good luck in your travels.
Glad to hear you're leaving Russia. Can't wait to see what you do next...
Maybe make a coffee or something
Also, when you're settled can we get a tour of your new place?
It's private and clean. So it's a nice little place.
I love the "weird yellow colour" on the couch !
Finally a new video!! Love the shirt â€Stay safe and dobryy den' â** oh thank god you're leaving!!!! waiting patiently for your next video đđ
Thanks for the tour of your digs.
ĐŁĐŽĐ°ŃĐž ĐČ ĐČĐ°ŃĐžŃ ĐżŃŃĐ”ŃĐ”ŃŃĐČĐžŃŃ !
Honestly, that's not bad at all! Especially since you have your bathroom and kitchen area. I'd say if you are able to, maybe change your lights to warmer colors instead of the fluorescent lights. Or maybe just a floor lamp with a warm bulb. It might lend even more of a home feel. Appreciate you sharing a part of your life that many of us will never see.
EDIT: I'm assuming that leaving Russia is a good, if not bittersweet, change based on your and Natasha's vids, as well as reality, so safe travels!
Another nice video! And apart from you being very pretty, your voice is also very melodic and peaceful. Best wishes.đđđ
Thank you for the video :)
Yay! A Depressed Russian vid !
Thatâs a cool quirky relaxing apartment.
Im glad youâre OK and youâre not arrested by KGB in Siberian work camp prison.
Are you going to the country of Georgia like Natasha?
Where ever you go youâre beautiful English language skills will make life easy for you.
Make a travel video when you fly out of Russia and get to youâre new country.
Best of luck!
She's so beautiful and funny. I love her!
LOVE THIS and THANK YOU !!!!!!!
Wow, very interesting! Looking forward to your future travels!
I really can picture the бабŃŃĐșĐ° chasing the poor pizza delivery guy đ
I hope you've found a confortable appartement out of Russia
Donât mess with the Babushkas. Lol. SeriouslyâŠeveryone loved mine (srsly Ukrainian/Russian) but uh just donât get on her bad side.
YES! Finally! Hope to see you outside of Russia soon :)
Hi Alena. I missed you and I was wondering if you are safe. You , Natasha and Zack are my most favourite vlogers. I wish you safe way OUT. I am looking forward to your new free vlog from Zack and Natasa.
I really love the way you film! âșïž
you have the cutest squeaky voice
Do you actually realize how good you are at your movies? You tell how you live, how you survive, how you enjoy the simple things in life.
I don't know any other YT'er who does it as honestly as you do. Your videos are a breath of fresh air to watch.
Tatiana Haina does the same but from Ghana. It IS great to see people like her and Alena share their experiences.
I enjoy your videos Alena. Your English is amazing, and you edit your videos well. Thanks.
Love your sense of humor, Alena. Good luck getting where you are going.
