- Today you are gonna watch a tour of my new apartment in Saint Petersburg, Russia. Finally I bought my first home in this awesome city. It's a 1 bd apartment according to Russian standards. Americans would consider it a studio apartment. This is a Soviet apartment building, a so called Khruschovka.

1. Keep yourself totally focused on the gas heater.
2. Throw that microwave out, today.
3. The drawer that doesn't close in the bathroom, get some self sticking velcro. It's a good cheap fix for now. I can't believe your bathroom floors. How cozy.
4. I would highly recommend you get shades for your windows that roll up not down. They cost as much as rollup shades. You will have maximum privacy and still enjoy the natural light and the trees.
5. I have noisy neighbors too (fighting, screaming) I solved my problem by simply putting my earbuds in as soon as I hear them start. Problem solved and no hard feelings.

Ksenia, whenever I encounter noisy neighbors at night, I invested in ear plugs that block out the noise entirely for a good night sleep.

A suggestion move the fridge to where the table was and move the small table between window and fridge give you more kitchen workspace. More light into kitchen. Fridge will work less not being close to not radiator.

I really like your apartment ! I love the heated floor in the bathroom and the heated towel rack . I guess you could dry clothes there . That washing machine is so cute ! The devider that devides the sitting room and the sleeping are I love. The sleeping area is so cozy ! Congratulations ! You picked a VERY NICE apartment !! Ksenia, your apartment is lovely and being on ground floor can be an advantage. Perhaps get a white noise machine or a fan to make noise and you might not notice neighbors as much.

Virginia is one of the states we are looking into moving to, along with Maryland and Hawaii. We have 3 school age kids. Do you have an area you’d recommend? We got to DC every other year and just love the area.
@@trishayamada807 Northern Va, near the DC area is very expensive though it is very beautiful. Williamsburg and York county areas are very beautiful too(and less expensive) The schools in this area are good. It is about a two and half drive from DC and about an hour from Virginia Beach. Parts of Richmond are nice too.

What a lovely apartment! I love the shelf with baskets separating a bed. In your microwave --- try putting white vinegar in a bowl (about 1 cup).... heat for 2 minutes. It should make it easy to wipe out the old messy stuck on stuff. Keep heating for 2 minutes each time......

Many many congratulations on your new apartment, I actually love it, it would be perfect for me also, I live alone too. I love your windows to the outside, I have 2 in my apartment but they are behind me, not in front of me. Might I suggest a solution to your 'noisy' neighbors? I have them too but I solved the problem by getting a 'sound machine' from Amazon. It's small, fits right in your hand and I keep it on my bedside table. It has many sounds you can choose such as running water or sounds of the ocean waves hitting the shore. My personal choice is the sound of a fan running. I play it loud or softly, depending on the loudness of the neighbors, it completely covers it up, I love it! I'm so happy you're pleased with your nice apartment, I'm sure you will enjoy it for a long time to come. And yes, it would be interesting to see your mortgage arrangements, if you cared to do that one. Many blessings for your new apartment!
Congratulations. We are saving to move far away from where we live. We are not happy where we are. So we are “penny pinching” to save for a big move and to buy a new house. I love that you’re sharing your life with us. It actually has inspired me more to move. We were comfortably uncomfortable for too long. We only live once!

If both doors lock, as a Mama that feels safer to me, harder for someone to break into the apartment if they have to break into 2 doors. Also, more time spent breaking in means more likely to get caught by another person. I live in a low crime area in USA but it is low income. I've had my car broken into in front of my house but so far never my home.

I had no notion of public hot water supply, till I visited Slovenia. In the UK we have gas boilers in the properties, or a communal boiler, in the basement, and heat exchanger in the apartment.
Communal hot water supply and central heating is very common in Swedish apartments too. We pay a monthly avgift (like a service charge/ factoring fee) which includes paying for heating and hot water, as well as planned regular building maintenance.

This reminds me of my 1st place in 1981. I was beyond thrilled to live on my own and didn't care how small it was. I look at it this way, it is less to clean. I did graduate to larger homes over the years, but I still only have 1600 square feet(I don't know what that equates to in the metric system). I LOVE your new apartment and find the heating system and washing machine to be very interesting.

I learned something new: in Russia, there is mostly a hot water source. In America, all homes have hot water heaters. Congratulations on your new place, it’s really nice & modern!

Congratulations on your new home. Of note, in the States the utility companies do not supply hot water to homes. All homes and apartments have their own water heaters.

Hello Ksenia, these are exciting times! Congrats on your new apartment, it’s got a nice home-like feel, very warm & inviting! I actually like the double door idea as it will provide insulation in the harsh winters & protection against intruders. The floors are nice as well!

Laundry machine surprised me a lot! This is the 1st time I see wall mounted laundry. It was hard for me to get used to use public laundromats in US. Be happy in your new apt!
