  • I was hesitant doing the brown ink exploration because I did not know if I even had enough to do a video like this, and when I went through my collection, I "thought" I had quite a few. By the end of this video, I'm not too sure! What are your favourite brown inks? #fountainpenink

Honestly I think including the borderline "not-actually-brown" browns is actually really helpful, because it helps define the boundaries of where browns start to become other colours.

Colours just can look very different depending on context, some of these might look a bit out of place, or more brown specifically, if lined up against what looks to be their colour category here.

Ina Ho reminds me of Caffe Crema and Kelp Tea reminds me of Scarecrow by Wearinguel (it tends to look green while it's wet and then dries brown). Dusted Truffle was one of my favorites from the Invkent calendar.
Lie de Thé will always be one of my favorite inks.❤

I love that you compared all these inks. One, it helps me decide if there is one I want to try and I get to experience it without spending the money on an ink that would disappoint. The fact some are "not" brown is even better. This helps that the name may not be indicative of the actual color. Still, it helps us all learn more about the inks out there.

I completely agree with you about Kelp Tea. I put that sample in several pens trying to figure it out. Very interesting ink shade. I love Biyori in my flex nib pens and it still surprises me how rosy it is. Dusted Truffle is perfection in my Pelikan m400 white tortoise. My ef nib has no difficulty with the shimmer because it writes so wet. Other browns in my collection I recommend are Diamine Macassar which is a beautiful deep brown, Diamine Golden Brown is exactly as it sounds and is not too pale, and 3 Oysters Mustard is a warmer mid-tone brown that leans a bit drier than Diamine but not as much as Sailor Studio inks. I love your selection of almost browns in this round-up and want to say the grouping makes perfect sense to me as my collection and thought process is quite similar (:

I’m trying to love brown inks, but they aren’t my favorite. I’ve tried several. The one I thought I would like most, Monteverde Pumpkin Cake, I used once for making a swatch and then the next time I opened the bottle, it was practically dried out. Lol. That said, I have been using a mixture of DeAtramentis Document Yellow with a touch of Document Brown and Fuschia, to make a Golden Brown. It’s close to color if Diamine Honey Burst, and is my journaling ink of 2024.
I have the Inkvent and that Weeping Willow is very cool chromoshading, on swatches, but didn’t even work legibly in my wettest tuned pen. I guess it’s made more for art.

Brown ink lover here--a friend said you posted this and the first thing she thought when she saw it was "oh, a video for Sarah." I personally love that you include inks from all over the spectrum in your ink explorations. It's called "ink exploration," not "super-rigid-and-accurate ink cataloguing." The Brown Ink Police are not going to come to your house and take away all your brown inks. And really, all of them had shades of brown or were just different enough to highlight something about brown, so I think they belong here.
A couple inks I know you have but were not included here are Teranishi Guitar Opera Rose and Taccia Ume-Murasaki. I personally would classify those as pink and purple respectively, but I've seen them marketed and talked about as brown (Cult Pens even sells Ume-Murasaki as brown.) Do you think they'd belong on this page?
My favourite browns right now are Yule Log, which I've just tried for the first time after finding a heavily-discounted green Inkvent, Robert Oster Caffe Crema, Pilot Iroshizuku Yama-Guri, and Ferris Wheel Press Writing Desk (the Wonder Pens exclusive.) In the orange-brown category, I love Dominant Industry Ginger Chicken, Diamine Ancient Copper, and was surprised to really dig Monteverde Giraffe after getting a sample. A brown I think is super underappreciated that you might really like is De Atramentis Maria Montessori...it has a purple undertone that reminds me of some of the inks you've highlighted as among your faves. I bought it solely because I went to Montessori school as a kid, but ended up really liking the colour, which I never hear anyone talk about. I have Pick Me Up inked right now, and after that I'm looking forward to Dusted Truffle. For the 2023 Inkvent, I want to try Walnut and Weeping Willow mixed together and see if the wetness of one helps the dryness of the other a bit.
Browns I want to try are:
    Ina-Ho and Tsukushi...RIP
Teranishi Guitar Antique Black, which seems to dry to more of a brown-black, and Travelling Sepia
    Robert Oster Chocolate
There was a Vinta ink that Snarky Wordsworth swatched recently that I can't remember the name of that was like a dark brown with gold shimmer. So that one.
    FWP Workshop Wishes
    Sailor Kitsune-Biyori
Anderillium Tolype Moth Warm, based solely on this video
Van Dieman's Kitten Paws, based solely on the name
    Colorverse Coffee Break
Basically all the browns from Diamine I haven't tried yet
Monteverde Brown Sugar and Scotch Brown
    Akkerman's SBRE Brown
and honestly, is there a brown I wouldn't want to try yet? Probably not! Maybe KWZ Brown Pink because it's neither

Friendly reminder that brown is a shade of orange.

a lovely lot of inks Karyna 🤎🤎 IMO a colour is what the person sees so you have 18 or so brown inks. To my mind, only Bah Humbug (burgundy) & the two caramel colours (orange) are ones I would put in a different colour group. It doesn't matter though, they are all pretty & that is the important thing.
My favs are Yule Log & Dusted Truffle & Stonecutter's Song. Thank you for sharing 🤩
