Pandemic-Era Black & White Slideshow

America is at war with itself, brother against brother.
As in any war, truth is the first casualty. Complexities are reduced to black and white and rational discourse drowns in a sea of angry cliches.
Against this cultural backdrop I recently found myself leaching color from my photographs, as if attempting to mimic stark post-truth realities.
But black & white, I discovered, isn’t always black & white. Sometimes there are nuances. 256 shades of gray, to be exact.

I like the diverse mix of wild animals, urban observations, home life - it lets you kind of zoom out of any particular genre and be more in a state of universal mindfulness as, of course, these things all exist side by side in real life. The music went along with that. Somehow I particularly enjoyed that you included the image of the closed blinds and the lamp. That one image seemed to symbolize all the heavy sighs uttered in homes in the pandemic era. It felt very meaningful. Tzuri's sweet face made me smile. The last image is wonderful. "... in a sea of angry cliches" - well said! An excellent contemplative slideshow!

Interesting that you should single out the bedroom lamp photo. Back when Covid lockdown and self-distancing was in full force I embarked on a photo project revolving around the theme of “oneness.” I took a lot of images (the lamp is one of them) trying to convey aloneness and isolation, none of which, I realized in a moment of clarity, fully lived up to my expectations. I had a themed slideshow in mind, but reluctantly abandoned it. This slideshow flirts with various themes which don’t work so well, either. About the only common thread is that they are all “pandemic era.” Hence the puzzling diversity.
