- My son just started taking guitar lessons, so I decided to make him his own guitar so he would stop stealing mine! He requested an ocean design, so my friend Sam from DIY Huntress helped me achieve that! Thanks so much Sam! It's just how I pictured it!

Thank you so much for building such an amazing guitar and then trusting in me to pour an ocean on top of it. So grateful for your friendship and for your trust in me!
Can’t wait our next play date... 😘
Next time we’re gonna make sparks fly!!! 🤘🤘🤘
Great job on the epoxy Sam! 😃👌🏻🌊👍🏻👊🏻
You did a fantastic job .
Nice job ladies, attention to detail is phenomenal 👍
It would be great if I could design a guitar with you (i don't make guitars I'm just very creative)
"Mom, can I have a guitar?"
"Yea. I'll be in the garage"
COOLEST. MOM. EVER. PERIOD.

Best mom ever!
haha! so fun to make stuff for the kids
@@3x3CustomTamar what is that gold artwork 20:28?
Steve Thea not sure. It was my friends house
@@3x3CustomTamar OK 🥺
Why EVERYONE should make! Whether it's bada$$ guitars, clothes, artwork or homemade foods... the process and satisfaction it brings is priceless 👍
Agreed... awesome and inspirational mum! 👌
How cool is it for a kid to be able to say, when asked, where did you get that sick custom guitar?
"My mom built it!"
Your son is so lucky, What a great mom.
Thanks! I hope he realizes that. Ha
Shoooot. Me? I'd have it allllll over Instagram(& everywhere else), bragging about the guitar my badass mom built for me 😁
This ocean waves effect is one of the best i've ever seen. Great job.
ZaYwas Thank you so much for the love! 😍😭
Sam is the best! she did an amazing job!
Unreal. I love how your mind conquers every "problem" (or task) on a build. Your son is very lucky to receive such a special gift.
Thanks so much! It’s so fun to figure this stuff out. He loves it. So I’m happy ☺️
Well my mom made me a laptop bag with music notes printed on the fabric so mine's cooler. Suck it kid who did nothing to deserve me antagonizing him.
@@3x3CustomTamar He better.
Okay good, my comment didn't wake mama bear.
tbonbrad 😉
drilling from the control cavity to the pickup, use the input jack hole go through that through the cavity into the pickup cavity
That would have been so much easier!
@@3x3CustomTamar In this case, yes. But if you prefer your output somewhere else, you can't do that anymore. My Ormsby has the output two inches under the strap button, pointing upwards, so you can better route the output cable through your strap for safety.
Mom of the year! You even went as far as designing your very own guitar body shape and going with a set-neck construction opposed to the simpler bolt-on. You're awesome! Your kid will never forget this gift of yours!
Ha! Thanks! I’m always up for a challenge.
This came out fantastic!! Going with a tapered neck was gutsy, but you pulled it off!
Thanks!! Yeah. I had some sleepless nights trying to figure out how I was going to make that work.
Not only are you a woodworking genius, you can play guitar as well, which is one of the most difficult string instruments, and no you didn't stop there, you built one too. Are you from this world Tamar? So much talent in you, you could power a small sized country with it. I will never run out of compliments for you.
🤘🤘☺️
That came out so cool, love it! And can't wait to see you tackle making the neck on the next one. Building guitars is so satisfying!
Thanks so much Shaun! When this whole CZcams thing dies down, I just want to make guitars all day....
You are amazing🤘
The two black buttons with the wave under it look like 2 eyes and a mustache.
Now you'll never unsee it. You're welcome ^^
I’ve seen many guitar builds on CZcams and this is probably my favourite. For the shape of the guitar alone.
That’s so awesome to hear!
3x3Custom - Tamar I was also so impressed to see how little you got deterred (on camera) when drilling through the body accidentally. It was very inspiring as that would have really broken me.
Solene Isconbi I edited out all the cursing. Ha
Holy smokes -- when this lady says she's gonna make a guitar, she's not kidding! No mere upgrade of a cheap kit, here! Incredible skills, beautiful results! Thanks for posting!
So glad you liked it. Thanks! 🤘
As a fan of single-pickup guitars, this is a real treat! I bet your son was super-stoked!
Haha yup! He loves it
You really did a good job, going out of the way to do everything...
Great job.
Thanks so much!
This is so awesome, Tamar! Love the fusion of passions :)
Thanks so much! I wish I could just build guitars all day and perfect them. I have so much fun with instruments.
@@3x3CustomTamar Your passion is so evident! Keep it up :) Looking forward to what comes next!
probably the best guitar building video ive seen and ive seen alot
So awesome to hear!
You never cease to amaze me with your beautiful craftsmanship and your dedication. You are truly an inspiration to the entire youtube community and to me personally.
Thank you for all you do.
That's so awesome to hear. Thanks so much! I'm having a lot of fun, glad you guys are enjoying watching the ride... ha
This guitar is amazing and he’s really rocking it!!
Thanks so much!
On playing demo tuning or intonation sounded a bit off. If nut was too high, that could be the reason. Also fretboard looks too dry, some dunlop lemon oil (not normal lemon oil!!!) can fix that. Otherwise wonderful build, if you just start with project like that, i guess soon you'll make big custom shop builders shy.
You are totally right. I brought it into my local guitar shop. The tech there filed down the nut and taught me how to do it for the next one. Now it sounds great. And I used regular lemon oil 😬
@@3x3CustomTamar I loved this video, Lemon oil is not an answer, I am no guitar builder but my much respected guitar tech told me to use normal oil lemon has a chemical factor in that has a detrimental effect on wood? I have no clue but I did notice a difference when I stopped using lemon oils on my rosewood necks
@@frankquinn1296 Change your guitar tech...I've been using lemon oil since i dont know how far back, 40 or so years and never ever had any problems whatsoever
@@bazwillrun Literally every modern guitar tech/builder tells you not to use real lemon oil. Dunlop formula 65 lemon oil is not really lemon oil, so it's safe. Strong lemon oil will ruin the wood by actually drying it, and loosen loosen up the adhesives holding the fret and fretboard down. 1% or 0% lemon oils are totally safe and SHOULD be used on any non-Maple fretboard.
I have to say, I really like that you show us when you run into hitches with your builds. It helps me to know that I'm not alone! And you always come through marvelously. BEAUTIFUL guitar! Thanks for the video!
thanks so much! I have yet to build something without making a mistake... it's all in how you fix them,
Tamar - coolest mum (mom!) ever! I've watched so many guitar building vids from luthiers all over the world but I learned so much from this vid, lots of really practical common-sense tips for small-shop hobby woodworkers which I know will work well for me. Thanks so much for your expertise and positivity, just love your channel, so easy to watch and learn!
Awesome to hear! 🤘
"my best friend, double sided tape" Ben from Crimson Guitars just shuddered.
Ha! I have tried the super glue tape tape thing. I don’t like it....
There's a lot things Ben would shudder at here but she did a great job anyway.
I was going to suggest Ben's tape/glue trick too!
@@cosplayboundlive There's a lot of luthiers who shudder in general at Ben's design choices..... (As in, the laughter levels are high in my luthiery course at college)
@@3x3CustomTamar well for both things it really depends on the tape... for the Superglue maskingtape thing, you need good masking tape for it to work. And the whole reason you do it is that most double sided tapes really leave ugly glue stuf behind... of cause if you find the right double sided tape for that job (that doesnt leave glue behind). I see no reason not to use it ;)
Great looking guitar Tamar! Your son said it all with his reaction 😊
Greetings from Croatia
Thanks so much!
That guitar has that "Surfer Music" sound quality to it! The "Ocean" motif is great, as it goes wonderfully with the way it sounds, NAILED IT!
Thanks so much!
@@3x3CustomTamar You're welcome!
I like how your thought process is explained. It’s a lot different than what I’ve seen from other builders but that’s great. It seems like since you’re not regularly building guitars you were more conservative(safe) in your approach which makes sense to me who also doesn’t build guitars regularly.
it's a beautiful guitar. I'm trying to set up a workshop in my house, inspired by your videos. I hope one day I can make a guitar like you. I want you to continue your work and continue your success.
Thanks so much! That's so awesome to hear! guitar building is the most fun...
Your friend should have played Wipeout! perfect guitar for this piece.
Any kid that age with a guitar to play is lucky but having THAT to play is next level. Ace job!
Thanks so much! It’s so awesome to see him messing around and learning on this thing
Awesome. A woman of many talents. You never cease to amaze me.
If a person is talented, then talented in everything
This is so cool! You’ve inspired me to want to make a guitar of my own someday! BTW, tell your son he made a great choice in the song to learn to play first.
Thanks so much! That’s awesome! Such a satisfying project. And Green Day is his favorite band.... ☺️
The end result looks amazing, what a great effect!
Thanks so much! This is exactly how I pictured it in my head. Sam did an amazing job
You are one of the coolest woman on the CZcams so far! Kudos to you!!!
🤘🤘
Yup the ocean top made me want to build one....but then I remembered I have laundry to do and do not have the tools or skills to tackle this job.....it looks and sounds awesome though 🙂
Hahaha! And when the laundry’s done. There will be more..... ha
The song is High and Dry. Literally one of my favorite songs at the moment. What a weird coincidence.
Love that song.
Same, but I like heaps of Radiohead songs
I have been playing electric guitar for 40+ years, you did a great job! I'm impressed.
Thanks so much! This was so fun. I totally want to build more
OMG like im so inspired right now I was really thinking to get into woodwork for the past years and this omg I hope its the start for something special in my life. THANK YOU SO MUCH!
That’s so awesome to hear! I hope so too!!
holy shit that wave pattern is beautiful i wish i owned it
Thanks! Watch sams process! It’s pretty simple to do!
now I'm watching your video for the second time.
You are an inspiration. I was intimidated to make my own guitar body, but your process pretty well insures success. Best tutorial I have seen. The ocean pour could not be any better. Since you said you may make more, I would suggest you make a clamp on drill guide, for the wiring holes. You may be right about adjusting the neck angle. For a prototype build, maybe make a "bolt on" neck. Then you could deliberately reduce the angle, install test strings, and tweak you router guide angle as needed. For certain if you bought a nut, it will need to be filed for the range of string weights you want to use. For a solid body, "rock" guitar, a set of strings gauged from 10 - 46 is a good starting point. The nut files are a bit pricey. I have heard a set of gas welding torch, tip cleaning wires, will work. I have not tried that however. Great job!
Two things I have messed around with in my older years, playing music and woodworking, not to your level, your videos are a joy to watch, nice job.
So awesome to hear. Thanks!
if my mom made me a guitar i would kept it safe like my own eyes
The neck was designed for an arch top guitar like a les Paul .
🎸🤓🎸🇺🇸☮️
Greg Baker she could of easily changed the neck angle
That neck angle route template is such a brilliant idea!
I've said this before but it's worth saying it again. YOU ARE FREAKING AWESOME.
Haha! Thanks so much! 🤘
Will you be my mom? I want a ocean guitar!
I have enough kids. Ha
Me: "Let me see how can I cut a piece of wood .. hmmm"
She: "Let's build a guitar"
Me: **Faints**
You are the coolest person ever. You are a great builder, play guitar, and a mom.
☺️☺️🤘
Lady you are something else and that is a compliment. You do great work, keep it up, Bob
🤘🤘
Wood working mom=female/male role model
Love the Ocean look on guitar and the guitar it's self, Awesome job with the build. 👍😀👍
Thanks so much! It was so fun to build!
CZcams suggested me one of your videos couple days ago and I've got to say I'm hooked. I think what I love most is the down-to-earth-ness of it all. The way you include your mistakes and talk through your process makes it all seem so accessible. I've had a couple projects on the back burner (Designed them but not started construction) for a while now and can legitimately say your videos have inspired me to just start doing. Even if (when) I make mistakes I know sooner or later they will be finished and they will hopefully be as great as some of yours :) Thankyou for sharing your projects, I look forward to watching many more.
So awesome to hear! Mistakes happen on every project! What makes me a better woodworker is just learning how to fix those mistakes
Amazing buiding's work. The best part its that you guys make everything looks so easly to do. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks! So glad you liked it!
What a great build, just awesome! Your son is a very fortunate guy to have such a talented mum.
Thanks so much! I hope he takes care of it! Ha
This is absolutely beautiful
Thanks so much!
Stunning!!! You are a very talented and extremely skillful lady. I love every project you build, how you build it, the way you think and how you overcome problems! Huge respect 👊
Thanks so much! I really appreciate that! This was so fun.
This was an amazing build. Truly talented - thanks for sharing!
Thanks so much! So fun to make this
Absolutely fantastic. Congrats! Sound great, your son is lucky to have such a crafty mom
Thanks so much! I’m so thrilled with how it sounds. I really wasn’t expecting it to sound so good. I love watching my son play on it ☺️
You're the dream mom of literally every beginner guitarist ever, what a beautiful looking guitar, I hope your son has a ton of fun learning to play it.
It’s so awesome to watch him learn on it
You are so Talented, such a joy to watch I like how you explain everything so clearly. With a Mom like you I can only imagine how far your children will go in life.

Amazing job. Great set of tools and skills to use them.
Thanks so much!
Awesome!!!
First off you're great and do great work. Then you make your own guitar. And one for your son, who is learning to play. And it looks FANTASATIC!!!
Lucky family!!
Haha! Thanks so much! ☺️🤘
This is absolutely awesome!
Thanks!
Wow, learnt so much from this, thanks!!
Awesome 🤘
Fantastic design. Love the shape.
Thanks!
Simply Beautiful. Well done, well done!!
Thanks!
I am so happy I found this video!
This is exaclty what I am planning on making (just extended range).
Awesome
This is such a fabulous and unique project. What an incredible mother you are to make such an amazing gift for your son. The wave pattern is fantastic, but even without it, the guitar would look great. The wood itself just looks beautiful. It's pretty impressive that you made such an amazing design simply off your son's request. Absolutely killed it!
Thanks so much! This has been my favorite and most used project to date! Ha
This is so amazing. I love it so much
Thank you so much!!
Nice guitar, useful comments all along the crafting! Thank you from France.
Thanks so much! ☺️🤘
You're so talented and inspiring. Please keep making more videos!
Thanks! I will! Ha
Wow! Thanks so much for sharing this beautiful build with us, fantastic job! 👏👏👏Fantastic job on the pour too, beautiful 👏👏👏
I'm so glad your son is enjoying it! Here's to watching you make more! 😎 !
Thanks again, great job girl! 😃 Pam
Thanks so much! This was such a fun build. I want to make more guitars so badly! Ha
You are beyond talented and your videos are true pleasure to watch. Thanks so much for your effort and sharing this with us!!
That’s so awesome to hear. Thanks so much!
I’m not a woodworker (but I always watch your videos), but I play electric guitar! And ”Brain Stew” is the first rock song I played on my very first electric guitar, many moons ago! The color of the wood and that painting... Wow. Wonderful, Tamar, good job. Ciao
Thanks so much! This was so fun to make a reality
Beautiful! Looks and sounds awesome! Great work!
Thanks so much! Such a fun build
This is fantastic. Great work.
Thanks so much!
your work is fantastic!
I'm speachless. so beautifil guitar.
what even more impressing, is the way you're dealing/ improvising
with problems during the process.
Tamar, it is great piece of woodworking - Thanks for sharing
Thanks so much! It’s so fun to figure this stuff out.
I've built several guitars and you did a nice job on this one. You pretty well did everything right.
Thanks so much! Guitars are so fun
a beautiful musical walk !
Never try to build a guitar, you make it look easy. Nice job! I’ll have to give it a try. Thank you!!
It really wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be! The hardest part was just making sure the neck was straight. Oh and drilling that stupid hole to ground the bridge....... ha
Beautiful job...I am going to try it...
Thanks! Have fun!!
Excellent job! Rock n Roll!
The neck pocket is very hard to do. Especially the first time doing it! I was nervous for you! The les paul jr. is the perfect guitar in my eyes. You really have to feel the guitar in your hand more then others because of the simple design. It makes you a better player. You nailed it! Mom of the year!!!!!
Thanks so much! I’m Addicted to guitar building now! Ha
Seriously this is so cool and so inspiring.
Thanks so much!
From Leo: Great Job! to avoid the difficult hole for the bridge ground, just drill from the pickup cavity to the bridge bushing hole and drag the wire under the pickup through the pickup wire hole, works perfect. Been there, done that.
Oh my goodness that is fantastic! I have one in mind for myself using spalted wood.
Thanks!
Amazing work!
This guitar sounds great and look beautiful.
Thanks so much! It was such a fun build
These videos are extremely well made and fun to watch
So awesome to hear! Thanks!
Your son must absolutely love that. If it were me, that guitar would be my greatest treasure for life. well done
It’s so awesome to watch him play on it
As usual, huge job! Great work! I’m amazed!
Thanks so much!
Totally bad a$$ gift for your son. You and DIY Huntress rocked that guitar!
Thanks so much! She killed it!
So clever and resourceful. Another great video!
Thanks so much!
This has to be one of the coolest CZcams videos ever!
Awesome. Glad you think so!
