    Most people do not understand how the needs of of the farm shape many or the things we do. On June 24, 1972 we had worked all during June to make sure the last of the hay was done by that day. Then the cows milked and chores done for our 8:00 evening church wedding and then the reception in the church Fellowship Hall. What a great 51 one years we have had.😊

    We switched from Deere to Krone discbines, and really like the performance of the Krone. They do a fantastic job of truly laying the crop wide and flat, vs. Narrow windrows. Not needing tools to change blades, and the safety cut system are very nice too!

    When I was Yung my dad and Grandpa used a sickle mower then they moved up to a haybine. When I started to farm I was using that same machine and hate everything about it honestly. I recently went back to a sickle mower and love the quality of my hay. We have a milk cow and I try to give her the nicest hay possible. For your operation it's not big enough but I wish you the best of luck with the hunt!!!

    Having a quick hitch on the 3 pt makes having a 2 pt mounted discbine really easy to hook up and unhook.

  • @AldenHayFarmer
    @AldenHayFarmer Před rokem +1

    Have a new NH 312 Plus Discbine on the way but have been running a NH H7450 hyrda swing with the 3pt swivel for the last 9 years, can make real sharp corners and has lots of options for laying out the windrow.
    We don't have to swap the tractor off the mower but if we were I'd get a Quick-Hitch for the 3pt, the new mower is a Drawbar Swivel, in either case I prefer having the lighter PTO shaft on the swivel hitches vs the old Quad Knuckle shafts like the Case IH 8312 had at the dairy farm I worked at.
    I'll throw in, while we haven't had any cutter bar issues with the New Holland, I do like how the JD cutter bars are put together.

    We have always run New Holland discbines and gotten along well. Currently have a 7230 which is a little over 10 ft cut with rubber rollers. It will lay a wider windrow than your 630 will be able to plus is a few inches wider cut.

    I've been using a New Holland 313 disc mower/conditioner for five years. No problems and it does a good job, very flexible... follows the ground like a wet rag. It is the 2 point version. It's not too hard to hook up; makes turning easier. Mine has the impeller conditioner, but I would go with the roller conditioner if I were getting another one.

    We bought a Krome discbine four or five years ago and we are very happy with it. The big problem with Deere and New Holland machines is that they have two seats between each turtle. If you have a leak you need to pull them apart to get to the bad one. The Kuhn one shares the oil so metal can travel. The Krome has an ingenious system where if you hit something a roll pin breaks and the gear spins up and out of the way so there is no gear damage like you do have with the others. It’s made in Germany by a company that only makes hay equivalent. We haven’t touched it since we bought it other than greasing and sharpening the blades.

      We have a kid in here it's only an 8-foot machine is a model FC 243g like it very much very low-maintenance we change the oil in the cutter bar once a year and then the gear drives once a year other than that and about one who set of blades a year. It's been very good and we have learned that the earlier dear disc mower conditioners were made by but painted Deere Green

    Have an 835 deere that is 2pt hitch and a 946 deere with drawbar and the 2pt is easier to hook I feel. The drawbar on the 946 isn't average drop pin and go but instead you need tools to attach a receiver to the the drawbar and it's way more frustrating

      Short for Constant Velocity Joint. They're primarily on front wheel drive cars and pretty much anything four wheel drive. Fairly compact, incredibly tough, easy to replace if needed, and in a hard plastic (usually) flexible, accordion style bellows boot.

    I have a question as a non farmer about tractors......(we had 100 acres for beef cattle in E. Tennessee as a kid but never owned tractors). Ive always wondered why you just dont see older tractors retro-fitted with roll-bars. And Im asking you because your farm is so hilly. Has that ever crossed your mind. Have you ever almost flipped a vehicle. Id like to hear a brief discussion if you ever have time. I dont know anything about it but would like to hear a veteran farmer discuss. Quite a few farmers were killed in rollover accidents around our area - back in the day. Thanks guys. Love your channel.

    John Deere came out with the quick change PTO shaft on the 3020 and 4020 but you had to be quick at changing it because the oil would run out. I would actually park my 4020 so the front end was down hill. The steeper the better. You didn't lose much because you could have the second shaft read to shove in when you pulled the first one out. I think for the time IH had a better setup.
