Thanks for the video. Quite a long walk from Madison Concourse to 42nd street especially if you carry any luggage - in a future video you could show all entrances and exits to/from 44-48 streets between Madison Concourse and Madison Avenue. Those save walking distance and time. Some escalators seemed to be under construction, though.
Mobile app to pay LIRR fare? I guess you can already use Mobile phone instead of Metro card - also a major time saver to avoid queueing to ticket machines.

This was an amazing video, thank you. We will be visiting soon and this is the route we are planning to take. I was a little bit worried but your video made it very clear. My only question is the ticket options from Jamaica Station to Grand Central Station. What is the difference between the three tickets? City, peak and off peak. Why did you go with the City ticket option

      Glad it’s help.
      Some updated info:
AirTran Fare is now half, reduced to $4.25 through Labor Day.
Peak and off peak are timing when more people use the LIRR.
The reason you chose city tickets because you will be travel between New York City. But if you wanna know more about: new.mta.info/fares/lirr-metro-north

JFK to Manhattan March 5th 2024. SIMPLE. After spending best part of 2 hours in customs we were on our way. Having picked up bags we followed signs for Air Train to Jamaica Station. It’s a shuttle train goes every few minutes. You pay as you exit Air Train and into Jamaica Station. Cost $8.50, pay by just touching your credit card on barrier. Staff there to help. 20yds in front of you follow the large sign which says Long Island Rail Road, can’t miss it. Once you enter the LIRR there will be a ticket machine on your left. Again staff in red high viz will help you. Ticket from Jamaica to Penn Station, off peak only $5. Yes that is a total of $13.50 from JFK to Penn Station. You could catch a different train to Grand Central. We did the reverse on the 9th again $13.50. Time from catching Air Train to Penn Station, 30 minutes.

This presentation is good, assuming you don't have large luggage or aren't disabled person. Here is my take
    1. I have seen too many people (mostly European tourists) take stairs down to Jamaica LIRR platform like you do, which is unwise when you have super heavy luggage. Take elevator instead, just behind the stairs.
    2. From Grand Central LIRR platform to Madison Concourse, there are elevators, especially for people who can not handle high-climbing escalators, as you point out.
    3. From Madison Concourse to Dining Concourse, there are elevators to choose from; the first is to your right of the other side of blue mosaic, second is in the Vanderbilt Avenue exit which to your right before making a left up to Dining, and the third is to your left by the blue double door; simply take the ramp and make a left U turn, or make a right to the corner

Correction: I always take the Airtrain "Howard Beach" last station to transfer to the A subway line straight to Columbus Circle and up along Penn Station. (You can transfer to the 5, 4,5 or 6 train at Fultonstreet if necessary (eats Manhattan and Grand Central. Back to JFK it's easier to take the E train from Times Square to Jamaica Station. Costs: Airtrain $8 and subway $2.90.

Awesome video. It's probably nice if you want to save that $50-$60 and have a little faster experience than a yellow taxi. I do however think that someone who just got off a very long international flight may possibly not be in the mood to get on different trains, do additional walking and eventually still use a Taxi from Grand Central to get to their Hotel. Also, the scennery with the Long Island Railroad is in my opinion not so nice and for a first time visitor to have that scenery experience as the introduction to the city may not be so pleasant. I can definitely see a lot of benefits to this way of travel, but I think a yellow taxi for my first experience will be better. Maybe a great way to go back to JFK after the visit. So thankful that you made this video thanks Sifat. :-)

Thank you for the very informative video on traveling from JFK to Penn Station but my plane is scheduled to arrive at about 10:05pm and I must know what LIRR I could get at that hour or would I be required to wait until morning. Personally, I'd rather wait at the airport than at Jamaica station as.a matter of better security .

    • @DannyEastVillage
      @DannyEastVillage Před 11 měsíci

Public transportation in NYC operates 24/7--including LIRR. after midnight, LIRR trains from Jamaica into Manhattan are less frequent, but so many lines go through Jamaica station that you won't have to wait very long. And the trains are clean and pleasant and the staff friendly and helpful.

Hi there thank you very much for all your help. We are two people with Luggage (two suitcases) and our flight is landing in JFK on Saturday 3rd June at 1.00 pm. Considering time of the day and that we have two suitcases would you recommend to take a taxi or the air train? As we are staying only 4 days in New York we do not want to lose too much time in traffic but have two suitcases. Cost is not a priority. Thank you in advance for you help

    • @TheNYCWalkingShow
      @TheNYCWalkingShow  Před rokem +1

Hi 👋 Thank you so much finding it helpful. Since it’s Saturday at 1.00 PM. It’s very good. You can use either a texi or air train. Saturday right around that time it shouldn’t be that crazy traffic to go to manhattan unless any accidents. On the other hand, you can take air train and because of the weekend it will be way comfortable in terms of crowd. So you have two options ♥️ I hope you will have a wonderful time.
My recommendation to take air train. Just to have a different experience ♥️🙏 hopefully it will be a smooth ride.

Great video - as always. I'm arrivng at JFK at the end of next month and have two questions. Firstly, I believe the full timetable will be operational by then - so what is the latest time trains will be running to Grand Central by then? Secondly, I couldn't see from the video but do the AirTain ticket machines at Jamaica have a contactless faciity? I'm sure I'm not alone in appreciating these superb videos.

So the train timing will be more or less same except it won’t be express! But not a huge difference and second i don’t think so for air train there is any contact less way, you have to insert card or cash 💵

    maybe
    however
Since NYC taxis charge by the length of the ride and not the number of passengers it may be a lot easier for a party
of 3 or more to take a taxi door-to-door
    and
Taking the AirTrain to Howard Beach is a good option bc it allows you to connect to the A train
    and
For many New Yorkers who work in Lower Manhattan taking the LIRR to Flatbush Avenue Brooklyn and then connecting
to subways into Manhattan is a better option
    and
Grand Central is a less-than-an-ideal destination bc only a few subways connect to i
    lastly
NYC mass transit is designed to carry people NOT people and their luggage
The visitor will get no joy from schlepping themselves and their luggage into and out of crowded buses and trains
and schlepping themselves and their luggage up and down multiple flights of stairs
