Title: rare Australian coins
Me: I have literally 100 of each of them
Mythical Cheese
me too
Rlly wow!
They're not even rare
None of the coins you showed are rare. You just showed standard coins we use every day in AUS (except the 1c and 2c coins which are no longer in circulation).
Cool!
As an Australian i can say the 50 cent coin is used just as much as all the coins.
As an Aussie this video triggered me
3:48 - It's pronounced "Eh-kid-nah" mate, but you still made it sound cool.
Also...
6:41 - We use all our coins... a lot.
7:38 - It's pronounced "E-mew".
Oh, and we no longer use the 1 and 2 cents.
ATLANTIS agreed
So funny
true he made it sound weird af
our 50c is used just as much or (dare i say) more than our other coins including the $1 and $2 coins
Some trivia: the kanagaroo and emu on the coat of arms were chosen because they can only go forwards (eg can't walk backwards).
Yeah I know that
5 cent coins mate
you see them like everywhere
I remember learning all about these when we switched currencies in 1966, but interesting to see them with fresh eyes from the perspective of a non-Australian.
The Aussie 50 Cent coin is as common as any other common coin we have in circulation.
I have a 2 cent from 1966, and a round 50 cents
The Australian 5 cent may soon be withdrawn from circulation so I'm holding onto all the ones I get in change. I'll be making a video soon on the Australian 5 cent coin & what I think we be worth buying and holding onto. Great video!
Fifty cents is used just as much as all the coins, except the two bronze ones which are discontinued.
Also the echidna is pronounced. ee kid na.
Also all these designs are still produced today.
The kangaroo and eem you, are not holding the coat of arms, they are part of it.
Steven Balekic So they still make the frilled lizard coin and tailed glider (1) just not for circulation?
You are wrong about the 1 and 2 cent coins. Stop making up stuff. They are not even bronze but are 97% Copper, 2.5% Zinc and 0.5% Tin. They were phased out due to the loss of purchasing power and cost of producing them.
@@memoryrinehart Yes, you can only (sometimes) get the one and two cent coins in uncirculated and proof from the mint or dealers. But they are not used and aren't legal tender anymore.
@@stevenbalekic5683 So what do Aussies use for change less than .05 now?
@@memoryrinehart Most items are priced in $0.05 increments. If it is an uneven quantity such as 9.98 it's rounded up to 10.00 or 9.97 rounded down to 9.95.
My mother has referred to them as spiny anteaters but usually we call them echidnas. "ee-kid-nah".
Some of our pronunciations probably make you think, "How do they get that from that???" 😝
But anyway...
The Emu we pronounce "ee-m-yoo". The sound "m" makes we combine with "yoo" so it sounds like "myoo". "ee-myoo".
The frilled neck lizard is pretty common in the outback (desert) and it is showing it's threat display on the 2 cent coin. It is pretty harmless though and only does it as a defence display running towards you on two legs to scare off would be predators before running away.
The Superb Lire Bird on the 10 cent piece is showing it's display it uses when it performs on its mound of built up debris where it will drape it's long tail feathers over its head (which take on the shape of the musical instrument "lire" like a harp) and mimic anything from whip birds to chainsaws and kookaburras. It's song is so superb it sometimes sounds better than the original bird species. The sound has been described as "silvery" it's so crisp and perfect and echo's through the bush (forrest). And we pronounce the Lire Bird as "lie-er". It's eye you can see if you follow the left side of the zero straight down.
You got the feather tail glider right! 👍
And the platypus you almost pronounced the same as us, just the "pus" part we pronounce more like calling your cat like "puss puss" and less like squeezing a pimple "puss".
And yeah, I hope that's helpful. I wish I could think of a better analogy for that last one.. Lol
hi any reason you didn't mention the $1 and $2 coins.
unfortunately the 50c coin is very common.
and the 1c and 2c coins where phased out in the 90s and used to make the bronze metals for the 2000 Olympics.
jamie kelly The double bar is very common.
You are wrong about the 1 and 2 cent coins. Stop making up stuff. They are not even bronze but are 97% Copper, 2.5% Zinc and 0.5% Tin. They were phased out due to the loss of purchasing power and cost of producing them.
The 1 dollar and 2 dollars came in 1984 replacing the 1 and 2 dollar notes c:
It is true, if you Google 1 and 2 cents australia it should send a link to the RAM website informing you about what has become the bronze medals for 2000 olympics
Ok. I did Google and got the RAM website> www.ramint.gov.au/one-cent. Can you provide the details about the bronze medals for 2000 olympics??
"The two dollar coin was first introduced on 20 June 1988" - Royal Australian Mint
"The 1 dollar and 2 dollars came in 1984" - Andrei Playz
Thanks for your contribution buddy, but it would help others who aren't familiar with the facts if you sourced your information in the future so they would not be misled.
Finally found the 50 cent coin @ a show a couple weeks back. It's a beautiful 1967. Paid $4 and under the first sticker it said $1.50.
According to the Royal Australian Mint, NO 50 cent coins were produced in 1967. If you have one with that date, it is either a forgery, or you have something which should not exist, and therefore is worth shit loads.
Yep none were minted for circulation, but possibly minted as a set for collectors. Still it would be worth shit loads.
These coins have not changed from 1966 till 2018 in their design with exception to the round fifty cent coin. The only change to the coins with regards to the mintages is the fact that the queens portrait changes, otherwise they are the same.
Hey I used to find 100s 1&2 cent coins just lying in my backyard
Hi I have one is 50 dollar I want to sale what can I do to
I thought you were going to talk about rare coins
I have 1c and 2c coins that have 1989 on them. So they were still been made after 1984.
Liz Heading the we’re made until 94
.
Very cool coins, you have so much coin knowledge. Was thinking about World coins witch I enjoy thought I would start a channel but would be in your about the same as yours but my knowledge pails to yours. Need to do more thinking about this. Take care.
Thank you for the valuable presentation. I have a few of them.
It's called an echidna it has sharp spikes all over it's back and rolls up into a small ball and then it is safe from being attacked by other animals. A smart animal won't bother it ,or it just gets jabbed by the spins. Long nose to get into ant nests which it lives on. This is why people call them ant eaters.
Like the verities of vids. Getting alot of foreign coins from coin star lately. Thanks for the knowledge.
i got them all beautiful coins greetings fom greece

Finally found the 50 cent @ a show weeks back. A beaut. Paid $4 and under the first sticker it said $1.50...
I have such one cent copper coin of Australia of 1966 and two cent copper coin also of 1966. Five cents copper nickel two coins of 1968 and 1969. They must be very rare.
I beg to differ about the years of mintage of the lyre bird coin. My family lived there in 1971 and it was being used...We saved one and I still have it. I also this past weekend picked up another much newer one. I think it is a 2005...
The changes to the coin only happen with the queens portrait, she gets older the newer the coin.
Australians call it an echidna, never an ant eater, even though that is their main food source. Also we have 1 and 2 dollar coins. If you do not have any I can send you some. Nice vid anyway.
He called it an encheeda HAHAHA
Wonderful content sir, it is easy to undertand♥✅❤❤️. i am also looking for some valuable coins❤️❤❤✅
this is some very old much be a lot of a good gold
Thanks for this vid...I think the 5 cent animal (echidna) is pronounced "eh-kid-nuh."
I have the 5c coin, I live in Alberta, Canada. I got it when I was in Walmart, it was in the change the cashier gave me. I was just googling to find out if the coin is worth anything here in Canada and stumbled across this video.
Looks a lot like needle backed drop bear. Very dangerous in southern victoria
I have the 2 cent coin I found it once and I keep it in my room.
@BigDCoins so you said on the 10 cent coin they were only made from 85 to 98. i do coin roll hunting videos also on youtube and have recantly found one of those 10 cent coins and mine dated 1979??
The coin was made from 1966 to today. The series only really refers to the queens portrait where she gets older as the coins get younger.

Yes, it should have a mint mark. Standard coins don't.

Everyone complaining that these coins aren't rare, stop a moment, listen to the entire video, reread the title to see if it can be interpreted any other way, and if you're still convinced this guy is totally wrong and you need to call him out on it, just like the last 50 people commenting, then by all means leave your polite feedback.
The title says rare coins to look out for. He does NOT say these are all rare coins 🙄 and it's evident to those who have watched the full video that he points out which coins are rare due to defects as he moves up through the denominations ... Jesus, why do millennials feel the need to constantly feed their superiority complexes and point out where you think others are wrong?
I thought the video was good mate and interesting too 👍🏼
I got a 5 cent coin lying in front of me
did you know the platypus is a mammal,it has a bill like a duck ,web feet like a duck,it lays eggs like a duck and the male has spines on its hind legs which cause terrible pain if stung, also known as gods joke in australia.1 and 2 cent coins are copper,we say "whats the colour of a 2 cent piece copper copper"to annoy the police
Hello Big D Coins I have a 5cent Australia coin 1994

I have 1 Coin of 10 cents Year 1966, what is the Value ?

You need to watch some Australian nature shows so you can learn how to pronounce the names correctly.....not American shows. NOT "en cheeta" but "e kid na" and not "e moo" but "em you" oh and 50 cent coins are used every day, day in day out
Kangaroo and emu can’t walk backwards, can only move forward. That’s why they’re on our cost of arms.
I had never thought of this but I won't forget it..
The one and two cent coins are no longer in use and it would have been more useful to show the one and two dollar coins instead.
The kangaroo and emu are on the Australian coat of arms because neither animal can go backwards Australia always GOES forward.
I have all Australian coins ,from one cent to 2dolars coins
I have a silver 5 cents has holy grail at the back is it also a coin
1968 one cent coin, rare as hen's teeth.
2 cent coin 1980 with the 1 missing is this rare
Where is the 1 and 2 dollar coin?
5 cent animal pronounced ekidna. Australian version of porcupine
10c lyre bird mimics other birds chirps
Every denomination of 50c except 50c weighs 1 ounce. E.g.. 5c+ 5c+ 10c+10c+20c =50c= 28.3grams. The 50c picture is the Australian national emblem. The kangaroo and emu (eem-you) are both native animals to the continent. They both appear on the emblem because neither animal can walk backwards. So we always strive forward.
The reason they took 1c & 2c coins from circulation was because the value of the metals made to produce it were worth more than the face value of the coin.
You could deface & scrap the coins for more than the original value
I have two 20 coin 1975 and 1981
What about the 1 and 2 :(

The Lyre bird can imitate anything including car horns, machinery and the zoom lens and shutter on a camera. Ten cents.
Platypus is a monotremes. That animal is a one off. 20 cent piece
Australian coat of arms is beautifull and official af.
It does however have a lovely branch of yellow flowering Acacia Wattle. One of many native trees that contain more DMT than Ayahuasca.
Frilled neck lizards. Bearded dragons and giant cane toads are a favourite critter to round up and race at the pub on a Sunday in Queensland.
