- In this video, I show how to make a salt cellar. This particular one started as a 4"x2" round blank. The base is sycamore and the lid is purpleheart.

Very nice... think I'll have to try making one. Thanks for the inspiration.
Love your work my friend. Subscribed before I even finished the video.
I really do enjoy your Videos. Watching them from Bavaria/Germany😊
Fantastic job
Nice job. Thanks for sharing
That looks great! 👌 Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching Heath!
GREAT PROJECT!!!!!!
THANKS that turned out great
Great video! I really like the contrast between the light wood and Purple heart.
Thanks Scott. This is one of my favorite salt cellars.
Wow that depth gauge. I’m gonna have to make me one of those. Great video and beautiful salt cellar brother 👍👍
I’m thinking about making a few of these from my next show in two weeks. Great video
Ox In The Shop Thanks Drew! One tip I have to offer is before you double stick tape on the lid, adhrlere some sandaper to a flat board and make sure the surface of your base piece is flat. Just a little jewel that I learned from doing a bunch of these.
Nicely done!!
Beautiful!
Salt seems popular just before Easter :) Awesome project!
Nice work, Daryl!
Nice work Darryl!
Hey Darryl...nice little project for a newbie like me..subscribed.
Hey, that's my lathe too.
Really nice job; a couple of suggestions - it could be just video playback speed, but it looks like you're sanding speed is quite high. Lower the lathe speed to 300rpm for sanding. Keeps both the wood and paper (and your hand) cooler. It will also prevent heat checks in the wood. Also, in place of the screw, use a small length of dowel. More attractive and does not need to be tightened regularly.
Nice! JimE
Enjoyed watching your videos, some say don’t put nothing on the inside?👍
Darryl, thanks for the good video. Are you happy with the DVR upgrade to your other lathe??
Nice one Darryl. Why not just use the mineral oil on the whole thing?
I used BLO on the outside to "pop" the grain, the mineral oil product for penetrative properties, and the food safe wax for tactile feel (it makes the surface feel soft and silky). Thanks for watching.
why are salt cellars so big? If you have a canister on the counter with salt in why not just a small lidded box or small salt cellar close by? Not being critical of the video, it is great but, I just don't understand why folks make them so big.
