The music in the later levels of any SNES game always had this kind of urgent or serious feeling about them. This can make it pretty scary (but very exciting) for a little 7 year old.
I still remember that feeling of excitement when I first got to this level in 2002. Melee was the reason I got into retro gaming. All the trophies and references to the old games got me so curious to see them with my own eyes. This was before high speed internet was easily accessible to me. We didn't get high speed until like 2006 and even then, CZcams was kinda just starting up. So most of it was a mystery. So of course, I get to Venom, this song starts up, and I'm just like "ohhhhh that's where it came from" It's a feeling I can never replicate because the internet has helped me solve a lot of those mysteries. What does a Game & Watch look like in real life? How does a Virtual Boy work? What about all those "Japan Only" trophies? This song always makes me think of all that.
I've never played Melee. I was born in 1984 so I was able to grow up playing the original Star Fox and I loved the hell out of it. It is still and probably will forever be my absolute favorite Star Fox game and one of my favorite games of all time. I am happy that there are other avenues for people who may not have had a chance to experience SNES Star Fox to experience it.
Corneria and Venom are the only stages IIRC that begin with a cinematic (the first and last levels, appropriately). In Corneria, it shows you being dispatched from a base, and Venom has you spiraling towards the surface. *Art.*
Space Armada has a sort of cinematic at the start, showing you coming out of warp speed. It just so happens that this stage is in the middle of the galaxy map, directly between Corneria and Venom.

There was a live orchestra Smash Bros. Melee CD that released for Nintendo Power subscribers back in the day (I still have it, but it's scratched. Luckily I ripped it to my PC before that happened). Anyway, "Corneria" as the track is known in Melee, was on there. Phenomenal CD, I highly recommend giving it a listen!
Yeah, someone apparently got the music for Corneria and Venom mixed up. This should've played on the Venom stage, while the Star Fox 64 theme song should've played in Corneria.
I got major chills when I first got to Venom on the switch online service ver. Seeing the Arwing make it's way down with that theme I was so familiar with but had no idea it was from the first game, that was really something let me tell you
Man, the memories this (and the whole soundtrack) brings. I first beat this game in 1997, at age 4 (I'm as old as this game), and while I can't say I recall my feelings at the time, and know I passed through the black hole to Venom 1, it was still a great accomplishment for little old me, and the first game I ever beat. Been my all-time favorite ever since.
The way the descending notes in the beginning fit with you flying your Arwing down at the start of the level is genius. I ignored this game for so long because I assumed it was just a worse version of Star Fox 64, but I was very mistaken.
Someone really needs to do an arrangement of this that includes the SNES Star Fox fanfare (and some of Space Armada) like the Smash Bros. Melee remix did.
The fun thing is: The music for the corneria stage is venom.... while the music for venom stage is the intro music from starfox 64 : ) also the music BEFORE corneria

*Note to Self:* Don't confuse this for Corneria due to SSBM...
Xenith Xenaku I couldn’t find this song for the longest time because of that
Stratilex I couldn’t figure out why they named it that but now I think it’s because this song is the main one for the STAGE but it’s kinda confusing
It was changed to "Star Fox Medley" in Ultimate.

Melee's "Corneria" theme is *this* song and the StarFox main theme, mashed together - technically making it original and exclusive to Melee.
And Space Armada
Amazing composition and instrumentation coming out of a SNES. Listened to this after the melee version, did not expect it to sound so high-quality!

Technically it’s a star Fox Medley: It plays Venom first, then the Stage Completion theme, then the end of Space Armada.
