    I appreciate this tutorial and the different way of doing it. I love the idea of being able to buy these lights in bulk and then change out then separate colors for the silicone cover. To me, this seems more cost effective rather than buying a bunch of lights in different colors. Wiring seems much cleaner, too.

    What speed did you cut the plexiglass at because I'm having a problem with it melting the plastic and it's a pain to clean it all out of the groves?

      That’s a great suggestion! I will work on it! It can be intimidating, but it can be done!! I felt the same but remembered my middle school tech class days when we had to solder one light on a circuit board!! I figured if my 8th grade teacher could help us, I could relearn how to do it now yearssss later! Lol

    Are you using a slotting bit to cut the channel in the acrylic or just a regular straight bit? It seems like the silicone will stay in the groove either way?

    Thanks for the very helpful video. Can you tell me if covering the LED's with the thin wires will dim the covered LED's a lot where you can notice dark spots when they are covered with the silicone diffuser or is it best to place the wires to the sides of the LED's so they won't obstruct them?

      I would make sure the wires are on the sides. More noticable on the white, but when it's photographed there isnt really a noticable difference.

      I do not at the moment. There are many different methods to making these, and people use different programs. I have shared files with friends and they have not always worked without needing to be altered.

    Can you post the info about your CNC setup? I also prefer the detail of "neon" signs using separate LEDs and silicone rather than the other type. I like your machine setup.

    Nice tutorial! I see you used Inkscape for the drawing. What program do you use for the CNC to do the cuttting with? How difficult was it for you to lean this on a scale from 1 to 10.       Acrylic is sourced locally. Reach out to your local plastics supplier. I use 1/4" thick acrylic.

    what router do you use? i have a makita and dewalt, but cant find an adapter to fit the 8mm bit. Thinking i need a new router at this point..

      I have a rigid. You can buy a collet adapter, or just get the bits that have a 1/4” shank.

      Thanks! I use 6mm thick acrylic for most signs with a 4.2mm groove!

    This is amazing! Thanks so much, If someone wanted to put the power cord through the back of the sign where would you recommend drilling the hole so the sign looks clean?

      You could drill through the channel and feed the wiring through the back. Then just overlap the LED strip to hide where the wiring is coming out!

      I plunge at 5 and run 12” per min or so. Really depends on your machine and router. I had to play with it for a while.

      I use a special 6mm bit made specifically for split neon LED signs!

      @@valaness 4.2mm is what is recommended for the groove. I take it down to 4.3 with my bit zero’d just enough to take the paper masking off. I found sometimes with 4.2 the ridge would sometimes be too fragile.
