He played great the last couple games against Boston, his shot was just not there. He seem to not know where to go with PJ and DJJ in the Corners
That's not saying a lot considering the team was horrible on defense before the trade for PJ and Gafford at the deadline last year. Powell and Kleber are the crumbs leftover from the Nelson, Carlisle and Cuban regime that needs to be wiped from the table that's the new Mavericks.

I'm way more sold on Spencer Dinwinddie, as he's a good ball handler who can both generate offense and shoot (his numbers are not that consistent overall, but he shot in the .40s for 3 in both his seasons in Dallas, so I believe the system favors him). In case he's not available, then DSJ -- again, ball handler, can create his own shots and is a good defender.
IF the 4 becomes an issue, some other move might be made midseason. Judging from last year, seems that 4-5 is less of a concern than shooting and creating offense when Luka and Kyrie are out. Also, O-Max should be ready to step up, so they'd rather first see what he's got instead of burying him at the end of the bench from the get go.
Yes and luka is comfortable playing with him and he with luka, the fit is excellent and they reached the wcf without a good roster. It's a winning combination
I actually like the DSJ fit now. He was besties with Luka. Luka actually lost respect for Carlisle because he didn't like the way Carlisle treated DSJ. But Carlisle's gone now so no issue. Dinwiddie's a way better shooter but a horrible defender. DSJ's a way better defender but a horrible shooter. Both can pass, depends whether you want shooting or defense
@@gugurupurasudaikirai7620 Dinwiddie actually performed well defensively for the mavs and he didn't make a lot of mistakes offensively either. I don't like DSJ's fit with luka they didn't vibe on the floor (off maybe they did) and that's all the proof you need, it would be insane to disregard that and the proven fit with dinwiddie. DSJ has a different vibe in him compared to spencer who knew his role very well and knew how and when to defer to luka.

Remember... he was our no. 2 option behind Luka 20-22! Brunson was 3rd. He would easily be our 6th man and certify us as the deepest bench in the league. Imagine a small-ball, 3 point guard lineup with Luka, Kyrie, and Dinwiddie alongside Klay and PJ! BLOWOUT CITY!!!

Here is my question... why do we need another PF? PJ is the clear cut starter, Maxi ( *IF HEALTHY* ) is a good backup, O-Max is a young and and very athletic talent that shot 42.5% on 5 3PA in the G-League last season... and for some reason people just forget that we also signed Marshall... Marshall is legit 6'7, 225 lbs with a 7'1 wingspan. Can someone explain to me why he shouldnt be able to play the 4? What am I missing here?

People in ( ) can also play that position without any problems if needed. In case of Kyrie its even his natural position. So if anything, we could use another Guard who can defend and score/playmake a bit. I really dont understand why we need another PF/Smallball C, unless we trade Maxi. And right now it doesn look that way.

Defense was NOT the issue in Finals. We were better defensively against the C's than any other team in the playoffs. We could not score!!!

I think Luka Klay, Pj, kleber/marshall, Lively is a good lineup, I feel this year we will see even more kyrie with the bench unit. Play with Kyrie, Luka, Klay, Pj, Lively for the first 4-5 minutes then pull kyrie for either naji marshall or Kleber. Keep Luka and Klay in for the whole 1st quarter then let kyrie work with the bench unit for the first half of the second. Klay needs to be exclusively on the court with Luka, they should always be paired together.

@@user-we4lh6mv5u No, not really. But with Thompson as a true 3rd option we can stagger Luka/Kyrie even more then we did last season. And thats a good thing. Means Kyrie can take a break early. And him/Luka/Thompson can rest more during the season overall. Means Luka might only play 34 MPG, Kyrie 30, Thompson 28 to keep them fresh for the playoffs and reduce the injury risks.

Unless it's a huge upgrade over Maxi, you don't mess with it. Yes, we have Gafford and Lively at Center. If we lose one to injury, we have Dwight Powell. Maxi allows for not only a back up 4 AND 5, who has lost confidence in his 3's, but we know he can hit them. Defensively, Maxi works better than either of Morris brothers or Powell, and hopefully OMax develops into the 4 we hope he can be.
If we have the ability, roster space, and some cash, then looking to move Powell or Hardy for some cash and the roster spot IF you wish to keep the Morris brothers.
Big NO on bringing in an expensive, lazy-ass player like Kuzma. He wants stats to increase his bag value. Do not use picks to get a clown like him that you may not even be able to have start for your team.

Morris isnt an improvement compared to Maxi, you should think about Marshall or Klay on the 4, if you really looking for somebody. In my opinion POA-Defense+Playmaking is much more needed.

In my opinion maxi is a great player who just needs more confidence. You saw in the thunder series he hit a three every game and even going 5-7 from three one game. Maxi just needs to shoot the ball more, in the Celtics series he gave up so many three point attempts. Like he would be open and just swing it to someone else. His defense was amazing, he would allow only 23 percent of shots to go in when you play him down by the rim. He’s a good player that needs more confidence.
Idk if it’s confidence or not being fully recovered from his shooting shoulder injury, maxi is on a good deal and has been solid for us

Just a note. We can't sign anybody right now until the Klay trade is officially completed. That won't happen until at least the 6th. We would void the Klay trade because any signing would put us over the 1st apron and a sign and trade that puts you and keeps you over the 1st apron is illegal. So we're not we're not making any moves over the next couple of days unless it's a trade where we don't take on any salary.
Side note. TCU grad Emanuel Miller is on the Mavs summer league roster. Hope he shows enough to get a camp invite.
Marshall has played a little PF it would be a progress stopper for Omax. Omax is the guy. We need another ball handler. Dinwiddie or D Smith Jr

@@gabriel-uc1uz Why do we need a 4? Washington/Maxi/Marshall/O-Max... how many more PF do we need? If anything we can use another guard. Is Dinwiddie ok with being an end of the rotation guy? Dont think so. But if anything we should sign a guard (6'3 - 6'5) who is a solid defender and can provide a bit of playmaking/scoring.
Or, here is an idea... keep the spot open and give us some room under the hard cap if someone who actually makes the team better becomes available later in the season.
Marcel, the Mavericks lost to the Celtics in five mostly because Luka was beat up and in pain and could not play the way he normally does. The Mavericks need to change up the offense from Luka driving into lane thirty times per game, he takes so much contact. Klay Thompson will really increase the three-point spacing and to maximize that capability many plays need to run for him. That will also help Kyrie by spreading out the defenses to be able to attack more. The main thing is to not, repeat, not play Luka and Kyrie together in the second and third quarters. Substitute in either Marshall or Grimes to add defense and rotate Luka and Kyrie until the fourth quarter. Also adding an additional ballhandler like Spence Dinwiddie would really help Luka and Kyrie cut their minutes.

I think people with volume problems need to upgrade from their 2016 cell phones. Works fine for me and I usually have to turn down the volume because Marcel is LOUD.
Wouldn't be surprised if we flip hardy and max for a legit veteran piece. Mavs are in win now mode and while hardy is good. He had value to add another better piece.

While I don't hate Maxi, he is too banged up. He is better as THE emergency player, not the first guy off the bench for PJ. Hopefully Omax or Melvin develops into that role (I see Naji as more of a 3 but you can add him there too). Otherwise we need to get a sturdy backup to PJ.

If PJ is in foul trouble or whatever and Maxi just obviously isn't playable, give Omax a try! Don't ride and die with Maxi just because he's familiar with the gameplan. Let Omax make mistake because he'll learn from it and I'd rather lose with a young player than lose with an old player. There's nothing to gain from Maxi anymore, if he sucks then he sucks, it is what it is, it's about time to move on from Maxi anyways.

I wouldn't mind seeing the Mavs go after Ousmane Dieng from OKC that they seem to have no playing time for. He's a versatile 6'9" forward that can play 3 positions and can pass, shoot, dribble and defend multiple positions. He can play the 3, 4 and 5 in a small ball lineup while still being on a rookie contract that the Mavs will control at the end of it.
Why? We already have O-Max for that young talented PF spot...

@@Yeah.316 for the expiring contract for Maxi. OKC has more than 10 1st round picks over the next 4 years, Dieng is easily replaceable because he doesn't get the playing time now and it gives us more offense in the front court like a younger Boris Diaw.
@@Smido83 O-Max is not as polished as Dieng offensively and the more big wing players that can actually handle the ball makes the offense harder to guard. I'm not saying don't develop O-Max, I'm saying we need more options in case of emergency. Plus, watching Maxi dribble the ball is similar to watching a train derail from the track and run into a highrise building.

On top of that O-Max shot 42.5% on over 5 3PA in the G-League while averaging 18.3 PPG... Dieng shot 30% from 3 (on less attempts) and averaged 17.3 PPG.
Maxi's job is not to dribble, his job is to defend on a high level and provide spacing. We do not need potential playmaking from the backup PF position. We need defense and spacing!
