    not trading Gafford. Mavs need him as insurance during regular season if Lively is hurt. That's why they got him in the 1st place.

    • @lonnie3729
      @lonnie3729 Před 8 dny +6

      I think the bigger reason why they got him is to mostly be a "mentor" role, because they're essentially playing the exact same role, and they just didn't assume that Lively would be as good, and even better than Gafford. In my opinion, they should trade him because his value is probably the highest it will ever be, and they just don't need him if Lively is doing the same exact thing, but better. Your point is being: Spurs should trade for Chet to have him in case Wemby gets hurt.

      @@lonnie3729 Lively was injured for stretches several times during the regular season and the team struggled without him. And Lively has a mentor in Tyson Chandler who has been training him ever since he was drafted by the Mavs. Another train of thought was rookie centers usually struggle with fouls. Lively and Gafford can play ultra aggressive and exert a lot of energy because they can keep rotating them for the center position and not have a huge drop off in production. And it allows the team to basically play the same way with rim rolling big on the floor at all times.

    Lauri M from Utah to the Mavs! Heard it here first! Makes Dallas deadly. Lively learns the 3. Five our offense ready, but can still play a traditional line up. Mavs have some good assets for a 3rd option scorer. Hardaway exploring, 1 1st rounder, 2 2nd rounders, Green, Hardy … All movable. Could use a 6th man type (unless Jones can turn into one)

    I’m fine with Gafford, but it’s clear now Lively is the starter, I need Gafford back on the bench now, also lively needs to take 3 threes a game next sesson( won’t be a rookie anymore), I think the Mavs need another guy, the Mavs had the same type of team the Celtics did in 2022, just slightly different, but celfics added to it a lot in 2023, Celtics waited a year, Mavs must jump on it now. Add another 3-4 wing, & a guard. I would say Drjuante Murray, inquire about Julius Randle if you don’t have to give much, Paul George, Deni Advija( could be their 3rd scorer, and could take some of the reigns if good enough, when Kyrie completes his time as a Mav), I like Bogdan on the Mavs off the bench, same with D’Angelo Russell, or Demar Derozan, someone of that level.

His averages in Charlotte don’t really paint him as a consistent scoring type and he really gives me slasher vibes, so if there’s no motion giving him a chance to beat that first defender off the catch I’m not sure he can bring a team consistent value on offense. Not to say that they shouldn't strive to build with more shot creation, but we saw what happened when Kyrie dribbled more this series, timely shotmaking was the real issue in the losses. Playstyle wise yes there should be evolutions for how the team is built but I disagree with the premise that playstyle was the actual issue, if it was they probably aren't even in the finals.

    2027th pick was traded for PJ Washington. Mavs will have 2025th picks after trade deadline (Mavs first from this year conveys to Knicks) and they will have 2031st first.

    I see a lot of potential from DLive, Hardy and PJ, but I question if many of the other players can fix their flaws, but if they can fix Gafford that would be massive.

    Nico Harrison has done a great job reconstructing a contender in the span of two seasons. The worst things that happened in his tenure were out of his control, trading KP and letting go of Brunson. Cuban screwed up the Brunson deal and his Knicks deal was set-up before the 2022 playoffs even started. KP was never going to reach the quality he producing now without leaving Dallas. He's building well with what he's got, not to mention that Jason Kidd is not a good enough head coach to win a championship.

      If he could coach a team to the finals, he's good enough to coach one to win it all in my opinion

    We HAVE TO get off Tim Hardaways contract. Unfortunately, the only way any team will take him, is if we attach our 25 first (once draft night gets here), or our 31 first.
    We would need to aquire a useable player. Whether it's someone who can contribute in 25, or is an even more attractive trade piece than Tim would be. Getting a decent 3rd scoring option should be our #1 priority.

    Rusty was harsh for getting on Malone and Stockton for most playoff wins, but without a title.

    Luka DOES NOT do too much. MJ had seasons FAR above Luka's highest usage rate. Jordan also was a vastly inferior shooter to Doncic, and not a point guard (and not as good a rebounder). Doncic could move the ball faster, but people who complain about his usage don't really know as much about basketball as they think they do. Who else had higher usage rates than Luka? AI, Kobe, Giannis and Westbrook. Some pretty big names in there and a bunch of championships. Luka is a unicorn....there has NEVER been a point guard like him. He has the passing ability of Magic, the shooting of Bird, the rebounding of Bird and is an excellent ball handler. If his team improves, his rates will drop because he's happy to share duties as he proved this year with Kyrie. The more pieces you put around him, the more his usage rates will drop. Right now he's at 48%/38% which is pretty good for someone taking the volume of contested shots he does. Quit whining about how much his usage rate is.

      Bro tried to slip in Westbrook, I love Russ to death but his usage rate wasn’t in an example of the fact high usage could work, he and ai are both exceptions to the rule. The teams around them weren’t good. I don’t think high usage is bad, but I think getting more on ball creation would be a net positive for the Mavs, look at what putting CP on the Rockets did, that was without a doubt the best version of the Harden Rockets.

    • @SDesWriter
      @SDesWriter Před 8 dny

      @@That1tree05 the usage rate is always going to be high with a point guard, and especially a high scoring point guard. Then you toss in the back of these also an elite rebounder and no matter what he does it’s always going to be near the top end of the list. It would be a completely different argument if he was shooting 34% from three and 44% overall with a high usage rate.
      They won 50 games with Kyrie missing a third of the season and no secondary star, then they got through three rounds of playoffs where they were the underdog and he was injured. Trying to find ways to criticize him for the way he plays often is a waste of time because Dallas is a lottery team every year without him.

    Couple problems with the stuff he said lively is a rookie Luca can get dramatically better which is scary and Hardy is more for the future after Irving and PJ learns to shoot at a higher level and yeah, all you need is one more shot creator.
