First the Pats scored right after Atlanta scored their 4th td making it 28-9. Tevin Coleman failed to covert a 2nd and 1 after a 9 yard pass to Austin Hooper and a holding call made it 2nd and 11. And then Atlanta ran the ball for 8 yards, Ran it again and for 1 yard which resulted in Tevin getting injured, which resulted in a 3rd down where they tried to throw it but a Blitz from Hightower resulted in a fumble then a TD 28-20. Freeman runs for 2 yards, then we get the 27 yard catch by Julio making it first down once again Freeman this time with a negative gain for -1, the run game is clearly not working Ryan drops back to throw gets sacked, holding call makes it a 3rd and 33. Pats get the ball again 28-28. The Patriots were the #3 ranked run defense in the NFL and because of that after the Falcons scored their 4th td and the score became 28-3 their running backs produced a total of 9 yards for 5 rushing attempts for a spectacular average of 1.8 ypc. Running the ball wouldn't have done shit for them especially when you ignore the amount of holding penalties they had, Tevin Coleman getting injured and the Patriots literally having the best defense in the league that year leading the league in fewest points allowed by 26 meaning that if they played an extra game and allowed their average for points allowed that season they'd still be the #1 defense in the league. I hate it when yall dumb down moments like these in football when literally so much goes into it if their backs were averaging 3 ypc and Tevin Coleman didn't get hurt I'd understand calling runs 3 times straight but when your back is getting a 1 yard gain and negative gains sometimes only an idiot would continue calling those plays hoping something works out especially with the Falcons D being unable to stop them with the entire pass rush except Grady Jarrett being nullified in the 2nd half of that game
@BigBroKuma it does not matter if they gained or lost yards, the only thing that matters when you have that huge of a lead is running the clock down to 0, which you accomplish by RUNNING THE BALL. When you have 0 football IQ I understand how this can be confusing

I'm a Pat's fan 4ever but it was the offense. Wen u go 3 and out or even score in 3 plays the defense has 2 play alot longer and get gassed once that happens its floodgate time
The defense was responsible for 14 of those points. Deion Jones stripped Lagarette Blount in Patriots territory. The reason James White played so much, Blount got benched. Robert Alford pick 6.

Patriots only had time to come back because Shanahan refused to run the ball. 5 attempts in the 2nd half with a Pro Bowl Devonta Freeman averaging 7 ypc. Shanahan did the same with San Fran vs KC Super Bowl.

Defense scored 14 of those 28 points. #8 offense of all time at that point managed only 14 on their own. That is a fail. The patriots ran 90 plus offensive plays. That means the falcons couldn’t sustain drives
