Yeah, today we're looking at The Muppets Wizard of Oz (2005)- a strange straight to television Muppets special notable for some of the weirdest moments in Muppet history. And who was there to meet us within this great bizarre adventure? Mr. Quentin Tarantino.

I'll agree that I had a weirdly big fascination of this movie as a kid but it took awhile to get over the scene where Kermit was ripped apart as the scarecrow and seeing his severed head begging the flying monkey's to stop what they're doing to everyone else. (Ontop of them just panning away with him and Gonzo's lifeless bodies after it all)
That was in the book.
And to think, this is the final Muppet film to have any involvement from the Jim Henson Company.
It's strange how good Quentin Tarantino is behind the Camera and how strange before the Camera.

I knew literally nothing about Muppets before you started doing these videos, but I saw this one on TV once as a kid and the only thing I remembered was that joke at 1:02

Personally aside from _Muppets from Space,_ this was the weakest Muppet film and Ashanti as Dorothy was completely a very selfish and self-absorbed character in the film and it didn’t feel like A Wizard of Oz twist if the Muppets.
Not only would I love to see a more much better adaptation of _The Wizard of Oz_ featuring the Muppets and a better actress cast for Dorothy than the 2005 TV film we end up getting, but I love to see more Muppet films in other Literary adaptations of famous classic stories in the vein of _Muppet Christmas Carol_ and _Muppet Treasure Island_ like _The Three Musketeers, Alice in Wonderland,_ etc..
Alice and wonderland would be perfect for the muppets. My one caveat with such a project would be that most of the wonderland cast should be original creations, in the vain of Muppets Christmas carrel. Characters like the Mad Hatter, or Queen of Harts, would be fine as established characters. But with creatures like the Cheshire cat, or the Caterpillar, I would love to see muppet work shop make them from the ground up.

Besides before Muppets Wizard of Oz, their were many references to the Wizard of Oz via _The Muppets Go to the Movies_ and even _The Muppet Babies_ had a segment or song referencing _The Wizard of Oz_
As for _James and the Giant Peach_ that would be difficult as it would require additional permission from the Roald Dahl estate and his family.
I don’t think I could make it through a day without YungJunko Muppet content.
I’m not sure why but I think an Elmo in Grouchland would be kinda perfect for this channel since we are now in the Junko Muppet epoc. Or that time they got the Mighty Mighty bosstones to be on the movie “Elmopalooza”. I was babysitting at the time and was completely gobsmacked when I heard one of my favorite bands on a kid show

Seriously, NO, I don't think this movie is weird at all. This came out when me and my sister were in our teens and we loved this film. For three reasons. First, it was actually a good retelling of The Wizard of Oz, and pretty faithful to the book. Second, it was a Muppet's movie. And Third, because it was funny. I honestly felt and feel now that this was a good movie and the Muppets did well by making this and continuing the incredible legacy of The Wizard of Oz in their own way. All the jokes felt right considering that this was the Muppets playing as the characters of this classic story. It also rounded out the classic Muppet Story full length movies: The Muppet Christmas Carol, Muppet Treasure Island, and The Muppets Wizard of Oz, thus, completing the trilogy. Ashanti also gave a great performance on this clever new take on Dorothy with a twist which feels right again in a Muppet's movie. I actually recommend this to people who want to see a Wizard of Oz movie that follows the book properly and is pretty funny.
There certainly would have been fewer complaints about the movie's horniness if Gonzo practically kooming over the CGI chicken was cut. I also think that Miss Piggy would have been better as Dorothy. Then, Foo-Foo could have been Toto.
I seem to be the only one who's noticed that this movie is an allegory for fame and Hollywood.
I was almost convinced that I gaslit myself into thinking this movie existed.
I've seen multiple of the muppet movies multiple times and I've even got a burning hot take on swamp years but I've only seen this one once and I'll probably never watch it again besides reviewing it in the future

I have missed the Junko songs so much; I'm glad it made a comeback here and with one of my favorite rap songs from back in high school xD

Y’know what I’m betting….i am definitely betting that during the muppets being owned by Jim Henson company. I am definitely beginning to have a distinctive feeling that the Jim Henson Creature workshop were the one’s behind that oz cgi considering how…..a taaaad bit similar it sorta looks with Waldo from Jim Henson hour…or sid the science kid. It’s hard to say.

I remember as a kid enjoying this movie a lot, but had no idea Quentin was even in it but I think that makes me this movie even more funnier, it's like they just let him improvise and do whatever the hell he wanted on set.
He looked like he was having a blast.

If you haven't, check out Meet the Feebles directed by Peter Jackson. It's probably the closest thing to "muppet Pulp Fiction." It's trashy but unexpectedly charming sometimes? It's unlike anything else I've seen.

Many of the scenes were from straight out of the book like the Tin Man’s backstory, the field mice, the green glasses, the different forms of the Wizard, and The Wicked Witch’s cap and “magic eye and even The Scarecrow’s “ bran new brains” joke.
I mean in the book, Tin-man, Scarecrow, & even the cowardly lion 🦁 have a kill count in the books 📚

It may be mediocre by Muppet standards, but it could be much worse. At least it ain’t Studio DC. Plus, it’s much more accurate to the Oz lore and canon than the MGM film.

the Tarantino scene is the only good part of the movie, the rest is pretty boring, standard and needlessly strange, I also really didn't like a lot of the music in this one.

This was one of The Muppets movies I grew up watching, and considering how conservative my parents are that is one of the great mysteries of the world.
older conservative people absolutely LOVE the wizard of Oz and its simple morals, not really surprising they would pick it up not knowing how fuckin weird it is and weren't intune with pop culture enough to know what the jokes were even implying
For me at least, Muppets Wizards of Oz as always been my least favorite Muppets movie.
When I first saw this I had mixed feelings about it but after rereading the book I was shocked by how much source material they used. It includes scenes most other versions leave out and made Oz more realistic.
If you watch Felix’s video on ranking Wizard of Oz adaptations he put this one in 2nd.
