The 2017 Unite the Right rally is more of an example of how easily the media can rile up the country into a frenzy than it how racism is apparently as bad today as it was in the 60's. If the media hadn't turned an event where a bunch of losers were walking around with tiki torches into a national story, nothing would have happened. Hence why the 2018 Unite the Right rally was such a non-event. The real issue plaguing America today is our cultural and political divides.

@@molberding5 That answer is perfect. Nothing against anyone, I'm full of flaws and some just like the ones he has, it's not for us to depreciate him. I just think that when you're someone in entertainment you have a degree of responsability on the information you convey. I'm sure there are people who took his comment as a truth, something that only weakens our perception of racism being said by someone that is, historically and culturally speaking, on the privileged side of things!

@@KarnRulez If racism is just as bad today as it was back in the 60's, then how come so many people feel the need to go out and fake hate crimes? Like the whole Jussie Smollett debacle. If things were really just as bad, then all Jussie would have to do is walk outside and eventually he'd be attacked. If in order to feel oppressed in America you need to hire two guys from Nigeria to help you fake a hate crime, then maybe you're not actually that oppressed.
Look, I'm not saying that racism doesn't exist anymore. Of course it does. But it's most definitely not like it was back in the 60's and before. As someone who lives in Texas, I can't even count the number of truly racist and bigoted people I've met. As in, I've never encountered a single truly hateful person. And neither have any of my friends, who are a multicultural blend of people. I'm not saying they don't exist but people act as if every other person is a homophobic Nazi in hiding. When, in reality, those people are a huge, HUGE minority.
I would say that political tensions are more vitriolic today than racism. You have people literally attacking each other and trying to ruin peoples' lives over political disagreements. Look at what happened to the Covington kids. The media and celebrities swarmed on these kids for apparent racism only to be proven dead wrong by further release of video footage and evidence. The real issue in America today is people holding their narratives and politics above all else.
@@KarnRulez The reported rise in hate crimes is due to increased police participation in the report program, which is why the FBI cautions making year-to-year comparisons. The most recent hate crime report had 1000 additional agencies contributing information than the previous year. What this means is that, in actuality, we likely don't have a rise in hate crimes. Rather we have an increase in local police departments across the country participating in the reporting of hate crimes.
And if you've taken a look at those reports, the largest single share in the increase of racially motivated attacks is that of anti-white attacks. In fact, hate crimes against white people was the largest bump of any category (race, religion, sexual orientation, etc.). That's not exactly supportive of the idea that white supremacists are driving a hate crime spike in this country, unless they're self-loathing or attacking other white people for not getting with the program.
And of course Jussie's hoax hate crime benefits conservatives. The same way it would have benefited liberals if Jussie's attack actually happened. But, honestly, is it bad to be happy that a hate crime DIDN'T happen?
The Winter Soldier is better than Black Panther in my book. It should have had a nomination!
I liked Black Panther, but I thought there were other Marvel movies that were better.
This is a very different selection of movies for best picture. We have a comic book movie, a Netflix movie, a Spike Lee movie, two movies with popular music (one of them being a remake) and a movie directed by Peter Farley. The only one that is usual is the political movie and the one that will most likely win (The favorite)

Look I'm all for equal rights but as a nerd I don't need politics and pandering to SJW crammed down my throat in my escapes from reality..if a person male, female or that technicolor rainbow in between works as a main character for whatever media you choose..fine good no problem..don't do it just to pander though..tbh this whole "woke" movement or whatever has rained merry hell on comics and movies as of late..
