Great video. We all strive for financial independence and better life. It’s not difficult in achieving this through the right investment, living frugally, and budgeting. I’m glad I learned early in life to work hard for financial freedom
In my opinion, venturing into a good investment is not just a strategy for generating passive income but a profitable saving method for future expenses. Those who fail to make the right decisions early in life end up regretting it. Nevertheless, investing can be difficult and risky doing it solely, For this reason, I advise seeking help from professionals(financial advisors). It’s not just watching videos and reading investment books the challenge is using them well.
@@BrunoLuke sincerely, I’m truly inspired by your words. I’m very interested in investing and I have got a good sum of money which I’m ready to put in with the right information. My biggest fear is losing my money on the wrong investment. For this reason, I’m willing to listen to your suggestions and ideas on how to invest wisely.

Great content. Thank you Afzal.
😊
Thank you! Maybe in the future we can work something out!
Your video is really informative and helpful. I took notes on dozens of pages for each video you made. could u pls do a video to talk about different roles and their salaries in finance or banking firm?
Really valuable, nice one Afzal!!
Pleasure! Thanks for the support.
I wish I watched this when I started.. has to be my best video ever
Thank you for this very insightful video! I have my Goldman Sachs face to face interview this week
Good luck! :)
How did it go?
Thank you man!
Can you make a video on the different roles/hierarchy in investment banking and their pay. Also how/how long it takes to move up the rankings in a company.
Thanks, good stuff btw
Hellotemi Read “Straight to Hell” by John LeFevre. He details this quite well.
I’m in my first year and this video was defo a godsent, made me realise I need to start working hard to secure the 2:1 and getting experience right now I’ve been way to chilled 😭😂 thank you so much bro.
My pleasure! Good luck :)
What’s a 2:1? Is it only in England?
Hey, a 2.1 is equivalent to achieveing anything between 60 and 70%. A 'first class' is a score above 70% overall. And a 2.2 is anything between 50 and 60%.
Thank you so much from Russia for such valuable information. I would be very happy, if you make a video about inside office culture, in order to understand the difference between different branches and departments.
Thanks! Will do :)
Thanku u’re awesome; nice advices
Hi, first of all, congrats for the video. Do you know where to find some material to prepare the online assessment tests? I'll be doing those for UBS in a couple days
I’m in high school wanting to be an investment banking analyst your content really helps guide me
omg same
Its pretty impressive that you are already thinking about investment banking in highschool
Same I’m a senior and I know I want to get a degree in finance now I’m trying to decide if I want to go into a career in investment banking
Thanks it was very helpful
😊
Hey Afzal! First of all I want to really thank you for all your videos and the help and support they provide.
I am a 1st year Business student at ESADE really looking forward to starting a career in IB/management consulting. I know that experience is really important but it is hard to find internships being a 1 year student. I have some possibilities but they are limited.
Do you think that in first year it actually matters what I do or where as long as it is related to business in a way, or do big firms just really want to see that you have been gaining experience from the earliest stage possible? For now, the three possibilities I have are working as a business analyst in a small startup, doing some accounting work at a big hotel or working in a small consultant firm doing accounting. What do you think? Thanks!!!
Afzal please please make a video on spring insight weeks!
Hi Afzal
Thanks for the video! I found it super helpful, especially as I am from politics background with little financial experience and have been unsuccessfully applying since my 2nd year of University in 2016!
Just wanted to ask. Does it really matter the position of the person you might meet and network with. Eg, if you write in your cover letter you met xxx person, would the person reading care more if you met an associate or MD or C-suite?
I read somewhere that people at the bank have preferences the hierarchy of the person you namedrop and reference.
Just found your channel, in good time too! Probably be sending my CV and cover letters off to your workshop!
Best
Chris
Thank you for your insights!
Could certainly have used this a decade ago. Even if lot of interviews few and far between then might not have been as big a difference maker. Incidentally only came across your channel the other day _after_ I was told I would be getting a job offer from our friends at J.P. :)
To complement (or merely to mesh) what you said in the video, life experience/strong knowledge were what prevailed for my interview. Would also stress a lot of earlier failed job prospects did help to ultimately hone the right message at interview time.
Hey! Thanks for the comment and congrats on your offer!
Hi Afzal, been loving your content recently! Just wanted to ask your opinion; that being, do you think the fact that I am doing Economics at a non-target University (Essex) will hinder me from getting into the banking industry? Is there anything i can do to negate the negative perceptions.
PSA I had to go to a Uni close to me for personal/family reasons despite getting three A’s at A level; could have gone to somewhere “better” if my circumstances were better.
Thanks Afzal for this video. Would you be able to do a video on how to practice the video interview to get at least 3 stars and also what steps to take for A-level students that are interested in IB. Again, thanks man!
Hey, thanks for watching! Will do. Great to see you so focused so early on. Keep up the great work ethic! :)
Wow. This video really opened my eyes, thank you so much for your golden advice, I really am grateful for it! Could you possibly do a video about telephones interviews and how to prepare for brain teasers? Thank you so much - Salma
Hey! Thank you for your lovely feedback/comment. Indeed, I'll be doing such videos in due course. Do keep an eye out for them in the coming weeks :)
Afzal Hussein thank you so much!
@@salmak4429 :)
amazing thanks bro
Thanks for the video Afzal. It was super informative, and I plan to execute all your tips (hopefully most apply in the faraway land of Houston!). Go Houston Rockets, Go James Harden #13, Go Goldman, Go...Success XD
Haha my pleasure! 👊🏽
This is brilliant Afal, you articulate yourself well :).
Hope to be in investments one day.
Currently working in a bank in a Customer Advocate role and going back to do Business & Management / accounting and finance in university.
Great videos! What grade did you get in your Bachelor’s?
How did you manage to get an inside week with BlackRock as a first year coming from a non target university? That’s pretty impressive
Thanks! Simply took advantage of a mentoring scheme that was happening at university, networked and got a weeks insight by asking the right people. You don't ask, you don't get :)
Afzal Hussein thanks for the reply! I really appreciate that! Matter of fact I just enrolled for a corporate membership program at my university last week. I hope I’ll be able to make the same kind of connections and maybe even manage to get an insight week at a similar institution myself. Thank you! :)
Levitation what university do you go to
Synamo I’m sorry I’ve just seen your comment now. I’m going to on of the (ESADE, IE, IESE) schools in Spain. I’d prefer not to say which one exactly. What about you?
Afzal Hussein I finally convinced myself to try to apply to BlackRock’s spring week. Would you have any advice for the Virtual Cover Letter ?
Can yo explain more about the inside week? I didn't get that part.
Thank you for the video! What specific division did you work in within Goldman Sachs?
Hi Afzal, I'm in my third year and only recently got into investment banking. haven't done any internships at Goldman Sachs or other investment banks yet. Do I apply for a summer internship first even tho I'm in my last year or go straight for the analyst graduate job?
The online testing process follows standardised testing procedures. It allows employers to recognise abilities and skillset rather than what experience you have gained or how amazing your cover letter sounds. This also makes the process fairer as each applicant is playing in the same park. Really good video btw!
This video was one of the most helpful and informative videos I have ever seen for getting into IB firms ! Can you please make one for the path that international students must follow for the same ? Thank you.
Wow, thank you for the lovely feedback! It means a lot. Will create such a video in due course :)
Please do this one and a fully descriptive vid on economics future prospects and best ways to succeed in them.
Where did you find such networking events and did you just ask the compa y for insight weeks or it was an oppurtunity held by the uni
It's so awesome we went to the same uni! I studied maths!
Really? Haha, nice to know! :)
DotShaddy What a levels did you do? What are you planning to do?
Hi, when did you begin applying for insight weeks and spring internships? Is it best to begin early in September before the course has begun or further on when you've joined societies? Thank you
Besides having leadership roles at societies at Uni, what alternatives do you think would present the same types of qualities that would stand out in applications?
Really helpful video - keep it up 👍🏽
Thank you for your comment, feedback and question. An easy way to present the same types of qualities would be through voluntary work, or even any irrelevant work experience. You'll learn relevant skills throughout these experiences that are all applicable to investment banking, consulting, finance, etc. Hope that helps. Will do a video on it in due course :)
I go to umass amherst and ive heard all these "insight weeks" called externships. seems like they are the same thing but externships are usually only 2-3 days rather than a week
Hi @Afzal Hussein
Do banks still take risk in trading and if so in what specific products to the best of your knowledge?
Thanks
Leo
thank you for the great video!! Can I ask you if you've done any major or masters? I thought big banks such as Goldman Sachs hire only people with a major/master.
Plz do another video about insight weeks
Would you recommend putting a photo portrait on a CV or is not worth it?
Is it really important to apply for summer internship at GS the 1st July? Like, is it over if you apply later or weeks before the closing days?
I am really impressed with your interview tips and networking activities to get into one of the most prestigious organization in the world. I am into looking for an opportunity with some investment banks in the area, but the road is being a rough one. I would like to network with you if possible.
Eddie.
Great video!
Thank you :)
For graduates applying to the New Analyst stream, which stipulates that applicants should have no or little financial services experience, will there still be questions about financial markets in the video interview and other interviews?
I am going into my second year due to the recent COVID events any spring weeks and insights were cancelled, Because of this I lost the opportunity and was only able to complete insight online and a few virtual internships too. Do you have any advice for me moving forward to second year of uni and the steps I should focus on to maximise my chances for a summer internship. Appreciate the video a lot thanks a lot.
Thanks for ur sharing! The tips are helpful! Though I am an Asian and from a Asian target school, had investment banking internship in boutique and Chinese ibank.
I am interested in career of investment banking in London. Is it common to pursue a master in London and shift my career in London? Do u have any colleague also hv their ug in Asia and do not hv EU identity, but got their offer in London investment bank? Would u mind to share abt that. Thanks again!!
@AfzalHussein what if I never did an inside week or had an internship during my undergrad? Would it still be possible to get an internship
Great video and so much educating.
Please talk about those who have graduated many years, how to secure internship.
Thanks! Will do :)
great tips, but a lot of them are geared towards current students or recent grads like for example getting into society clubs or internships. What would be the best bet for an individual who is outside of college now for 9 years and has irrelevant professional experience?
Good advice here
Thank you!
Hey afzal due to alevels being cancelled I’m worried it will affect me getting internships next year when I start uni what would you advise students in my position, would graduate schemes take this into account or should I resist them if they’re not as good
Great Video!! Defo Subscribing, also what A Levels did you do?
And what were your grades? Thanks ☺️☺️
Thanks! Maths, Economics and Biology.
Nothing special! ;)
Amazing video as always bro, so much knowledge and gems! I appreciate your work & keep doing what your doing !
Quick question. How & what made you decide that asset management was the sector for you over others? Also how much in-depth knowledge/research would you say you’d need about each firm/role as it can be very timely finding worth while info
Many thanks man. Very much appreciated. My skillset aligned and I wanted a good work/life balance. That's the short answer but I'll do a more detailed video at soon :) The more knowledge you know, the better. Obviously, you're not expected to be an expert, however, see you peers as a benchmark.
Hi... i was wondering what excel should use for financial analyst? Can u tell me?
22:35 I was fully expecting him to say 'smashing the like button'
spring weeks tips please!
Securing them? Or acing them?
Afzal Hussein hey bro, so did you make any videos on both how to secure them and how to ace them? If so, would you be able to send the links?
Hi Afzal, Do you think it's worth paying for internship/course at Amplify trading to bridge the commercial awareness gap in interviews in order to obtain a position at an investment bank?
Any advice for someone like myself who’s left it too late to apply for most insight weeks in my first year?
Any advice to people that are 3rd year and haven't been able to secure an internship in Goldman Sachs, but have had work experiences in other companies in the financial services?
Build your CV with extracurriculars, network, network and network some more. Ofc, have a strong CV and cover letter etc. too. So much detail to go into. Will make a video specifically for 3rd years in your position soon :)
Afzal Hussein Thank you! Really appreciate the effort and the time you are putting into this.
If you finally make the video, can you answer the following question “While on last year of the degree, and considering of not doing a masters, is it worth applying for an internship instead of a graduate job to get more chances of been accepted?”.
tks u too much!!!
Hi Afzal, do you know the Hirevue questions? Even from past years would be helpful
At 19:05, what's the difference between an asset management division in an investment bank compared to a pure play asset manager? And why would you choose one over the other? Been trying to google the answer and can't find anything!
Hey! Pros and cons vary, however, an AM division which is part of an investment bank can leverage the broader resources and divisions of the investment bank, whereas, a pure play AM firm might not have those resources or divisions. On the flip side, sometimes consulting companies prefer pure-play AM firms as their actions, philosophy and ethos are not dictated by a larger investment bank (which often can be seen in a negative light). Pure-play asset managers might have more specialised resources and be more niche as well.
