GRRM levels up his characters like a dnd game. Like being mamed, isolated in darkness, cannabilism probably, and some kind of presumed death. GRRM already did this with the pov Davos, and to lesser extents with Bran , Theon, Arya, and some non povs like Rickon, Dondarrion, and Dondarrion, and Dondarrion. Soooo, there's a chance Crispy Quentyn is a member of the club.
I don’t believe Quentyn is actually alive, but that’s precisely why I’m happy to see him here; it pretty much guarantees that if George ever releases TWOW the official story and fanfic will have meaningfully diverged from each other. I’m very curious to see the knock on effects of his survival!

One hundred percent! I'm shocked how much I've come to like Quentyn is alive because of the fan fiction. I'd be curious what comes next since it seems like Victarion may also get a dragon lol? Definitely drastically different from the show at the very least. It's very exciting lol!

@iamsheel maybe! He definitely has shown the most warging potential out of any of the Stark children! It almost feels comparable to Bran since he wasn't given as much of an nudge for his ability to manifest, prior to Ghost being affected by the future-Bran weirwood sapling. Plus Ive seen it argued that he sensed Ghost in the prologue.

Absolutely phenomenal chapter. The description of his burns was evocative and did a good job making sense with both the damage we knew happened in Dance with the idea that Quentyn is alive. I loved the repetition of "Mother" being both the face of the Seven, his own mother, and Daenerys. And even though I saw it coming "We are seven" is such a cool line.
Agree. Such a great closing line for this chapter.
I love all the symbolism here of Quentyn becoming like a weirwood or post-Long Night greenseer - the whole burned red, cracked, and bleeding, giving up his own desires, seeing flashes of things happening in different places from his tower, pained by memory and so many of his friends cut down, sort of enshrined in the heart of a castle, and yet still with this potential to exert power that other people crave but that he doesn't even really seem fully aware of - and then being visited by the Child of the Forest and the Giant to plan their counterattack.

He can either finish the story with elements he's fleshed out for years, or come up with some other random theory that will either be an idea He is less familiar with or one he's freshly thought up just to avoid his own theories

I remember being skeptical when I first heard of the fanfic because I thought Preston's theories could be a little wacky, but I love it all so so much! The only thing I'm hoping he doesn't include is the Dorne/brave companies conspiracy lol. I love how he's delving more into the magic/telepathy!

This chapter was such a necessary pay off for the decades of setup in so many ways. "Harzoo", the dragons, the windblown, the futility of war, the broken boys sent off to die by supposedly loving parents, the mercy of the mother and not the mercy of death.... I'm still not 100% convinced by the Pahl-inclusion, I think it could have staid a mystery who did it, but in general a fantastic addition.

I can’t believe I haven’t seen anyone mention this in the comments yet, but I’m most excited for Quentin bonding with Viserion. I was not expecting that! I’m so excited to see him fly and I cannot wait for Dany’s reaction!
The madman actually did it
I think that keeping Quentyn alive was a good choice. It parallels Sansa and Arya's stories, where they both romanticize things but then realize the harsh reality. Sansa romanticizes being a Princess and the concept of a Prince, while Arya romanticizes fighting and sword fighting, and Quentyn romanticizes being a Prince himself and the concept of adventure. Sansa realizes the harsh truth by having to deal with Joffrey and Cersei, while Arya realizes the harsh trush when Syrio Forel is killed and she's forced to kill people, while Quentyn realizes the harsh truth by his adventure and plan backfiring (no pun intended). Plus, not killing Quentyn allows for him to grow as a character, and be an actually interesting character as apposed to the dull character we got in ADwD. Plus it also plays into the theme of cripples, bastards, and broken things becoming great people, as now that Quentyn is burned and scarred, he can now learn to grow and rectify his past mistakes.
Oh shit, Crispy Quentyn is literally Azor Ahai! I predict our hero will find himself back in Dorne, where he'll set Dawn on fire, by running the blade through both the Fowler twins at the same time.

The reveal of the tattered prince dying in Quentin's place genuinely surprised me! That was one of my big reservations about him still being alive but i think you handled it perfectly. Well done!

I think the irony of the Shavepat is that he’s distrusted by everyone when he’s been completely honest and upfront with his loyalty to Dany and opposition to slavery to contrast Hizdah who’s completely lying about being antislavery despite trying to reopen the fighting pits and sleeping with a slave woman when Dany leaves Mereen
Plus who’s going to stay when Dany leaves for Westoros
Real missed opportunity not calling this chapter The Frog Reborn.
The Frog that was Promised
I love the parallels this chapter had with Davos I ASOS. Both characters haunted by fire, thinking about how better men have died and finally believing the mother saved them.
Was so great to see a fanfiction chapter with the POV having their exerstensional crisis. I'm excited to see where reborn Quentyn goes next.
We're past George's footprints now
I dreamed I was walking along the beach with GRRM, and across the sky flashed scenes from A Song of Ice and Fire. For each scene I noticed two sets of footprints in the sand; one belonged to me, and the other to GRRM. When the last scene of my fanfic flashed before us, I looked back at the footprints in the sand. I noticed that many times along the path of my fanfic, there was only one set of footprints.
I also noticed that it happened at the very most original and reaching parts of my fanfic. This really bothered me, and I questioned GRRM about it. “George, you said that once I decided to follow you, you would walk with me all the way; but I have noticed that during the most tinfoil-hat-wearing parts of the story, there is only one set of footprints. I don’t understand why in times when I needed you the most, you should leave me."
GRRM replied, “My precious, precious child. I love you, and I would never, never leave you during your times of theorizing and writer's block.

It was then that I carried you."

Im not gonna lie...I'll never understand why you like the idea of Quentyn being alive, or what it adds, but i will bite my tongue and admit that this chapter is pretty damn good.

The part where Quentyn is thinking to himself, Why did I live when better men died? Where is the justice?….. that hit home the existential themes George writes about. There is no justice. Only the choices and chances in our lives. Some die unjustly some live by chance. Life is precious but extraordinarily random and unfair.

I don't see why he won't be able to reproduce. It said it was "singed", not gone. Quentyn will need to deaden himself to desire if he wants it to heal. Once it heals though. . . No reason he can't do the deed. And the Prince of Dorne won't lack for a willing wife to sire an heir.
Naaaah, it would be way more cathartic for Doran and Arianne to see him return. Doran because he sent on this suicide mission, and Arianne because I want her to go bonkers over the fact that he now rides a dragon, meanwhile she married dragon-less Aegon.

It was great to clear up some additional mysteries from the Dance, as well as establishing Missandei as a more important player. More than that, we got a second dragon rider in the story, though he got burned for that. I don't expect to become one of the main characters, I just want him to return to Dorne alive and well, with great stories under his belt.

I think this project is brilliant.. the only thing that prevents me from being excited for it is all the crazy Preston things that are going to be incorporated (perhaps none crazier than Quentyn is Alive), but at the same time I respect that he's doing things his own way, whether they make sense or not.
Quentyn being alive is really not that crazy. I don't think he will be alive in the winds but i love prestons take
