  • Magdalen Music Fellows Giovanni Varelli, Christian Leitmeir and Mark Williams join College Librarian Daryl Green and Dean of Divinity Jonathan Arnold in bringing the music and liturgy from the College collection of manuscript fragments back to life, for the first time after several centuries. Form plainchant, to the most sophisticated English 15th-c. polyphony, the music is performed by Choristers and Academical Clerk in the wonderful settings of Magdalen College and its medieval Chapel. The musical transcriptions from the fragments are by G. Varelli (processional chants and Gloria in excelsis) and C. Leitmeir (Credo)

Fascinating and all together splendid! I acknowledge my prejudice, since I had the delight to study at Magdalen from 1958 to 1962 when the great Bernard Rose was Informator Choristarum. Happy memories...

This is wonderful - congratulations to all who put it together. I can't wait for the scores to become available for further use.

The cloistered elite: how precious and exclusive! In France this kind of privilege doesn't exist: church music of the highest order is available to ALL, rich and poor.
