I'm 46 and I guess I started using a trimmer when I was about 10ish so 36 freaking years and I never thought about cutting from the bottom up so that my paper don't move! Your bona fide genius! Thank you so much for this! As a child, I always counted those lines wrong. When I became a 1st grade teacher, I fixed that problem by telling my students to start counting the "neighbor" as the number one. Don't include yourself. I used this strategy with all counting problems and my students didn't make the mistakes I made with counting as a kid. LOL

In Elementary school, I was out with chicken pox the week we were taught how to read a ruler. Although I had to do the “make up work” for what I missed, I never understood the ruler measurements. All my life I’ve only known inches, half inches and quarters and in recent years have googled other measurements to see where to cut at on my trimmer. I stumbled across this video thinking it was trimmer reviews (it was) but your lesson on reading the ruler at the beginning was a massive bonus!! This clicked and I get it now!! I now know how to read all of those little lines because YOU took the time to explain it perfectly!! Thank you so, so much!!
Also - that Dress My Crafts mini trimmer arrived to its new home yesterday and it is so perfect!! I was looking for a replacement for my “popular brand” mini guillotine trimmer that does not cut straight no matter what I do! The Dress my craft mini trimmer is perfect for cutting those printed sentiment sheets - which is exactly what I needed it for! I’ll be donating the other trimmer to a good cause. Thank you again MayMay, for the ruler lesson and trimmer recommendation!

Hi Maymay, thanks for the tips. I have one for you though :) I have 2 trimmers - a Fiskar and one that is the same design as the Dress My Craft trimmer. If you look at the clear plastic guard, towards the bottom (at about 30cms) there the slot is slightly wider. This is where you get your blade out - no need to bend the plastic (no matter how slight). You line up the little arms to the wider bit and pop them out

    • @nancyyasuoka2550

oh my , I have watched a lot of crafters explain how to use these trimmers and there are still a lot of questions I came up with.
you explain it for the people like me who question everything, I know there is a reason, but what. I have a paper studio , I have had for many years and I love it . Mine has the middle ruler also, and it has black grid lines, and they are at 1/4 in. I wondered what they meant, now I know. my arm is also 16" but the right side only goes to 1 1/2" my grids are like the dress my craft one. Thank you so much I will save this one for sure. what a blessing.!! here is a tip that I got from my StampinUp demonstrators, put a strip of washi tape over the measurements and it helps, it was too busy for me, and after I covered up the metric, it is easier for me. I love that tip too. I dont think I would ever use the itty bitty one but sounds neat, I just use my trimmer for everything, and use my StampinUp grid paper a lot. Thank you again have a blessed week

I feel better now! I have 7 trimmers, 2 were super cheap, barely cut letter paper... but, I have the tonic super, two cricut trimmers, and a SU trimmer, I use the cricut and Tonic Always... I want a Better Score board. Score Pal- doesn't have the measurements I use marked.. M.Stewart, is ACTUALLY- purposely 'a little off' to prevent copyright infringement. I use a large ball tool, so I Can Square everything... I certainly wouldn't have made THAT purchase, it's a bit more than a "little", it's close to 1/16th. I kept thinking, how can I be so off EVERY TIME... then, caught the Admission straight out of Her lips, that, the measurements aren't "exact, but, crafters are innovative and can adjust as needed" ... if I'm going to "get close" I didn't need to purchase a tool.. I could just do the corner match n squish... lol. Good video! TYFS.

MayMay, When I taught third and fourth graders, I reminded them that the smaller the number in the denominator, the bigger the piece. Their parents also needed a reminder. Your imperial measurement instruction was identical to my old lessons.
Knowing and using millimeters is good to have if you're watching someone from the UK or Australia - well anywhere but the US. That way you don't have to convert.

I love the trimmers that have the quarter-inch grids on them. That way, you can see all down the length of the paper is it's straight. I wish I'd seen this video years ago because I have trimmers of all kinds coming out my ears, but I can't seem to be able to throw them away!!! That's just silly of me. I have a guillotine trimmer from Tim Holtz (Tonic) and, after all these years, I finally found one that cuts square for me. It has the quarter-inch grid. I have The larger Tonic guillotine trimmer, but it can't seem to cut straight from top to bottom--Ever. So I bought that 13" trimmer from you! :D🥰

Hi, we always say pick a way, either on the line or right next to it and aways use that and you should be good

I Need someone that is aquainted with the Tim Holtz Tonic Gillotine cutter.
What You CAN, & can NOT do, or Shouldn't do. There are differrent types of lines & marks (grids?) How to use those. I HAVE discovered there is a line that doesn't have markings on it and can be used w/an embossing tool I have to make score lines. I'm on a Tight Bugdet & that was an "Investment" for me, & dont want to mess it up,... but get The Best & Most use of it as I WON'T likely be able to buy any other.

You sure helped me a lot! I just ordered the tonic trimmer but wish I had seen the just my craft one. Oh well I am hoping I love it. I have a fiskars trimmer. I have have it for year but it does cut crooked sometimes, for buying new trimmer.

Thanks for this tremor demonstration. My problem is how to use the extender arm and still get a straight cut. I have the new rotary trimmer by tonic and Tim Holtz, and I cannot make a straight cut once I pull the extender arms out because there's only one side to measure by if you can help I would appreciate it
