    Nice install. A good tip for anyone who needs to turn the meter off to work on gas piping- always turn the main valve back on SLOWLY. The regs are sensitive to being slammed with the high pressure and can end up leaking out the vent if not done carefully. ( Gas co service tech, see it all the time) Keep up the good work!

      Dave, you are correct, he used the pressure tap tee for his pool heater fuel run (A no no). Chuck, let's go over the proper way to install a gas riser. At the pool heater your installation does meet the criteria for the national gas fuel code but at the gas meter it does not come close.#1 the gas company's pressure tap tee should not be used for your pool heater fuel run ( the gas company uses that tee to check regulator pressures, lock up and working pressures). So one of two things could have been done, you could have came off the house fuel run like the gas company thought you were or you could have asked the gas company to install a fuel run drop at the time they upgraded the gas meter ( there is normally no charge for this).#2 no shut off ( gas cock ) was installed before the first Riser went into the ground ( all underground fuel runs should have their own gas cock).#3 an insulated union is required before the riser for galvanic protection and easy component change out ( a riser is considered a component).#4 if you would have installed a shut off and tee for the pool heater fuel run you could pressure test your work very easily ( which is required by the national gas fuel code).#5 you passing a Municipal inspection doesn't mean Jack Shit when an incident happens in the gas industry. In my 35 years in the gas industry I have provided multiple depositions when incidents occur due to contractor error & it hardly ever ends good for the contractors insurance company.

      Never turn on HP gas like that u will damage the reg, never install another fuel run before the secondary/contractor meter stop.
      That high pressure stop is not for you no touchie, ive seen em crumble and blow apart 59psi isnt as fun as you think .
      You mentioned there is a valve out in the street, dont assume what you dont KNOW.
      Channel locks will damage you hands long term use your wrenches more and hold back.
      Finally im sure u felt that floppy fuel line once you disconnected the meter outlet spud. Let it be know do galvi thru foundation wall, install a swing elbow and strap it at least twice b4 transitioning to CSST garbage=rigid

    1) Why no union at the meter so new pipes can be removed if need be?

    • @ChuckBarron
      @ChuckBarron  Před 4 lety

      Not sure why pipe would get removed but i i did i would cut and press a cap and or a male adapter with cap. as far as loop i swung 2 90's to meet riser from pool line. So many ways to pipe gas. the choice is yours.

    Was this inspected ? Was the BTU volume properly calculated ? The nipple coming out of the Gas Meter should have been upped to larger size and before the pool gas pipe connection. By connecting it the way you did, you choked the gas supply to the rest of the house. Also, that 1" gas pipe going to the pool is undersized. Pool heaters draw 400,000 Btu's / or 364 c.f.h , meaning maximum run cannot exceed 30' of 1" pipe total. Looks like your gas run is much longer. PS: Nice Rigid tool !

      That "pool heater" is a "backup generator" bigger than shit. Look at the "heated pool", for fuck's sake. Its an above-ground "wading pool" somebody "converted" to an "in ground pool" and clearly the "pump" is running and must be "separate" from that "heater" with zero "vent" OR "enclosure". Pool heaters are not "outdoor appliances" and no "pool heater" that "size" is something you just "T into" existing gas "supply line" and automatically have "enough gas" for. Especially with clusterfuck adapt-o-rama "plumbing" like THAT. But a "backup generator", on the other hand, only needs gas when the "power" is off.

    Hi,
    my name is Kenny and I heard you talking about how much gas flow and I watched a lot of plumbing videos on this old house and the plumber was installing a natural gas barbecue grill to the gas meter and he and his son Evan connected the natural gas lines inside the house from the meter to the barbecue and this is what he said about what natural gas meter the gas flows from the street the number on the face of the meter determines how much natural gas comes from the street through the pipe to the meter bar and the number of gas lights which is called out in numbers 5,10 or 15 on the face plate on the meter and the plumber told his customer that he has four hundred thousand B.TU.'s of natural gas and he also totaled up all of the gas appliances and the plumber said that his customer had enough gas to run all of his appliances including the barbecue.

      test ports here are normally 1/4" thread here, but we also have cross bar meter brackets to bond, take stress off the meter itself and the gasket fittings, with the test ports in them..
      I don't see how it doesn't leak in freeze/thaw cycles
