How long has The Simpsons been on for? Well long enough that a lot of it's jokes just wouldn't fly today. Not just because sense of humour changes from generation to generation, but also because as network television becomes more open to things like nudity and violence, you will find less jokes that may come off as racist, sexist or insensitive. So we went back and binged all of the Simpsons, tough job we know, and found all the best jokes that, if they remade the episode now, would never made it into the final cut.

The Simpsons ARE American stereotypes, all characters are stereotypes of different cultures!! I'm a Latin American and I've never been offended by Bumblebee man (or even in El misterioso viaje de nuestro Jomer, when they straight up mocked my home country Guatemala), like Matt Groening said, people loves to pretend they're offended, my brother is gay and he grew up loving this show!!! It's still our favorite!! People should learn the difference between a joke and straight up Hate speech, racism should be taken seriously and be fucking erradicated, but also important, not to be so frickin sensitive towards everything and everyone

Homer's Phobia was a cornerstone tv episode for the LGBTQ community. It gave a gay character a true personality that wasn't totally focused on his sexuality. The episode didn't affirm Homer's homophobia and went to lengths to discredit it by the end of the episode. As with many episodes of All in the Family and Maude, the world may be a less accepting place if this episode hadn't aired.

the list would make more sense if it were about Family Guy and the jokes that don't work on that show, like Peter taking some kinda scientific pill or whatever to become gay, who then magically stops being gay with the show's purpose being to.............make gay jokes? Or an episode where they actually DID make fun of a trans person (Quagmire's Dad)

Are you really serious? It is clear whoever made this list has never ever watched any of the episodes mentioned, only read the episode descriptions. For example, the Itchy and Scratchy movie: Bart got tickets for when the movie opened. The funny part was that it was in the theater for a year, so he COULDN'T rent it. When it was finally available, he shrugged it off because he learned his lesson and realized it wasn't the end of the world. And the mental illness episode was NOTHING like you mentioned and brought light to the fact that when others are different from mainstream they are labeled mentally ill. And do not get me started on the "Homerphobia" episode. That was a LANDMARK episode for television.
As for unrealistic nature of the narrative?? You are aware you are watching a cartoon, aren't you? Jesus Christ, I am a liberal but y'all are about as humorless and dense as they come and make the rest of us look like fucking morons.

I honestly think calling Apu offensive is downright dumb. He’s a decent character who is distinctly supposed to be a first-generation immigrant, so he would have a lot of Indian characteristics. I’ve seen a blog talking about how Apu reminded him of his father. One more thing to thing; I say it’s perfectly fine for voice actors to play characters of different ethnicities, as long as they portray them well. That’s just my opinion. If you have a problem or see something worth criticism (pretty likely), I’m open to anything as long as it’s fair.

Did WatchMojo actually watch the episodes? Did they actually take any time to think about what they were watching if they had? 99% of what they found problematic in The Simpsons was not just a joke, but a subversion of what people thought back then.
The rape joke they mentioned was a misunderstanding and goes into how an innocent man's life can be ruined because of such accusations.
Homer's Phobia was meant to show that gay people are people too and deserve the same respect we'd give anyone else.
Patty's wedding wasn't supposed to be about transgender people. It was about someone being able to finally come out to their families and their families accepting them for who they are.
Seriously, this list could go on, but my point has been made.

They don't seem to get that just because an episode contains something offensive, that doesn't make it an endorsement. Islam is a religion, just like every other religion we choose to worship or criticize. Anything can be joked about, as long as he message and delivery are done well. I've always found the Irish stereotype on The Simpsons to be hilarious because it is holding up a stereotype that is obviously not true. I'm Irish, live in Ireland and I find it quite clever. There are better causes in the world to fight than a satirical look at the stereotypes of other cultures. For sure some of it would not fly now especially the earlier episodes. Homer's Phobia also guest starred the ingenious John Waters. It showed the LGBT community through Homer's misconception which at the end led to him learning he was wrong. Also the steel mills episode yes there are many gay men who do fit that stereotype. I know many in my community. You failed to mention the episode when Homer became a minister to marry all the same sex couples in Springfield. I am not offended by the gay episodes as a gay man. I feel you make some valid points but you are also being hyper sensitive at what in essence is satire.

i agree with you on all those points, though Homer becoming a minister to marry the gays, didn't he do that just to make money? then again, that could be a joking commentary on the climate of today's society cuz i've heard jokes about profiting from gay divorce and how FAAAABULOUS gay weddings would be. lol

Roland Baldwin I’m Irish And Live in the US and find the Irish Stereotypes pretty damn funny. And Clearly Watchmojo is trying to demonize Homer as Homophobic clearly missing the message.

Wow. I'd contest that The Simpsons is one of the most liberal, broad minded, boundary crossing, and brave, shows, ever. Not to mention one of the best. Yes, the standard has dropped significantly in the last 10 years or so, but the fact this video has an air of condemnation is brash, unfair, and extremely discrediting.
I'm 37 years old, and during the 90s The Simpsons was a huge part of my life and really formed, and informed me. But if I'd never seen an episode, this video list would make me think only negatives towards it. Unfair. Really, unfair.
So, are people just dumber, less able to notice nuance, irony and satire than they were 15-20-25 years ago? Or is this really how offended we have to be at everything in 2018?
Usually Watchmojo is a winner, this list, with respect, not too sure you needed to make it.........

Also - Voice actors have a job to do.
Robin Williams voiced Arab and other such characters, I don't see anyone claiming he was racist. It's not cost effective to hire an asian guy to voice one asian character for 3 lines once a season when another voice actor who already does 6 other characters can do it.
If a voice actor is told to do a jamaican accent, they do it. That's their job
