The extreme scale of the The Orion Nebula

- This is a journey through the cosmic scale of the Universe to The Orion Nebula. A wonder in the depths of space that can be seen with our eyes alone, hiding in the constellation of Orion, looking like a star.
If you'd like to support my ongoing project to make educational films about the Universe like this one do please check out my Patreon here: / epicspaceman
I'll be posted behind the scenes footage and will be putting some of my patrons in the next video! I hope to make these videos full time in the future so all the support is massively appreciated.

There are few places if any in the Universe more beautiful than a nebula and The Orion Nebula is a particularly beautiful one. When I was a kid I couldn't believe a star in the constellation I was always looking at, Orion, wasn't actually a star. It led me to want to learn more about the Universe beyond the stars and I hope this film can do a little of that for others too.
It took me about 6 months to make this, my 2nd video about the Universe and even longer to make the 1st!
If you haven't already, do please take a look at my first video where I shrank the Universe down, then turned it into cereal, so that its titanic size makes more sense, plus who doesn't want to eat the Universe with some milk? Fortunately I'm getting faster at making these and hope to make the next one in 2 months rather than 6, then hopefully I'll be able to make them at a once a month speed after that.
For those interested in the technicalities of how I made this, you can find me on Instagram here / epic.spaceman where I show some of my behind the scenes though most of this is in my Patreon. I've been teaching myself VFX from scratch for a little over a year with Blender, a wonderful, powerful (and free!) programme, so that I could make these films. I also used a motion capture suit from Rokoko to get the micromovements as I presented. I think for my next video I'll move around a little more as I get more comfortable with the suit. I'm a filmmaker and director of photography as my day job and I've wanted to make videos about Space for ages but just didn't have the VFX skills, so my journey with Blender over the last 14 months has been amazing, I'd highly recommend it.

This is phenomenal. The information, the narration, and the 3d renders are all so damn good. Absolutely gripped me and filled me with awe, thank you for this and please please please keep them coming. From one Astro-nut to another, outstanding work 👏
Thank you! Really appreciate all the comment and I’m so pleased you managed to feel a little bit of that elusive awe. Will definitely be keeping them coming and hope to start making them faster now!
Also just to say thanks everyone for all your wonderful comments, it’s really helped motivate me to make the next one faster. Some have asked how they can support me further so I’ve started a Patreon here: www.patreon.com/epicspaceman I’ll be posting regular behind the scenes, releasing the next video early there and I’ll be putting patrons in spacesuits in the next video which will be fun!
@@EpicSpacemanawe is not ilusive, my friend. it's there all the time. awe comes from presence. you are obviously present.
Agree. BUT, while the production value is indeed really great, the information given by the video is very limited. The video is 4 minutes long and it's only told us about the scale of nebula.
Phenomenal cartoons
To put things into perspective, 90% of CZcams channels combined is the sun and this channel is the Nebula in terms of awesomeness.
Hilarious.
you sir can do Nebula-sized compliments, this might be the best one I've read.
Real question is how big is this subscribed button compared to the nebula.
Accept Jesus Christ 🙏🏽❤️❤
@@onlyenzoYTummm. no thank you.
This channel will blow up.. phenomenal production.
Thank you! That would be nice! I’m really happy with how it’s been going over the last six months and have lots planned for 2024
@EpicSpaceman can't wait! ❤
The last video had 1,3 million views in one month
That's already pretty good
More than some well established channels in youtube
for real, mans Got some maaaad skills, the best on youtube
Do tell your ppl about it!!
hi ! me and my brother were doing some drawing, when are dad came in and said he wanted to show us something. I asked if it was going to be boring and it definetly was not! We had absolutely no idea that the universe and everything else is so HUGE!!!!!!!! You really got us thinking big things. Thanks! { I'm 9 and he's 8 by the way.}
Hi! Thank you for the awesome comment! I’m so pleased your dad shared it, that you enjoyed it and even commented. It’s really made my day, I’m very much looking forward to making many more videos like this for people like you. And you’re exactly right, the Universe and lots of the stuff in it is absolutely massive! One of the wonderful things about that is that there will always be so much for us to explore.
keep leaning. You're at the age where you will remember everything.
literally blown away
this effort is pure love for space, and life.
Glad for not missing this
This is incredible, man. Stunning visuals, and you have a PERFECT voice for narrating. I can see that this is a labor of love. Looking forward to more stuff from you in the future.
Thank you so much! I really did love making it and can’t wait to make more. Thanks for taking the time to comment, the support means a lot to me!
I disagree. I think his voice sounds annoyingly "wet and sticky", like his mouth is full of sugary saliva, with excessive mouth noise on consonants like T and K. I get a real nails on a blackboard type reaction to it.
@@barthvapour that's the microphone, man. On a different microphone his voice would not sound that way. There are options if he wants to reduce that. But as-is I don't notice anything egregious enough to be bothered by it. His voice is smooth, even, and warm, and he speaks with a pleasing cadence. It is perfect for narrating and an issue of the recording equipment doesn't detract from that for me.
I think you have a little of something called misophonia@@barthvapour, a few people have mentioned it in the comments, I'd never heard of it before. So lots of people really like the fact the microphone is close, for an almost ASMR like audio (though that was unintentional) and don't really understand where you're coming from but those with a little misophonia are instantly repelled by it. I've moved the mic away a bit further so it would be interesting to hear what you think of my latest one about the Moon.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it@@calliope720 People have different tolerances to noises in speech from distance to the mic, this is something I've only just learned, it's called misophonia. I've moved the mic away a little further now so hopefully everyone enjoys it.
This is the absolute most original astronomy related video I've ever watched
Thank you! Really trying to make something different and special so really appreciate that.
the production quality goes FAR beyond what you expect from a private youtuber. kudos to you sir.
I think you're one of the few ones out there that helped visualise how big the universe actually is as opposed to just telling a number. All this with a quality of animation better than movies , keep up the good work
Thank you! So pleased you enjoyed it and found the scale worked well. Cheers!
When I was a child, I spent a day at the London Planetarium. Although it was nearly 50 years ago, I still remember the sense of wonder I felt watching the display on the interior ceiling, with the soft informative commentary. These videos bring that feeling back and you have the absolute perfect voice and presentation manner for these types of videos, let alone the stunning graphics. Well done and congratulations.
Thank you so much! I need to go back there with my kids now, it’s been a long time since I’ve been. Really appreciate the kind words and support, that sense of childlike wonder is what I’m chasing so great to hear you caught a little of it too. Cheers!
I hope that one day you will have the opportunity to watch the night sky through a telescope or even just good quality binoculars. A display helps you understand, but watching the stars through binoculars, you become part of the universe.
@@Renard380 I too highly recommend a good pair of binoculars, much more versatile for a beginner to astronomy.
Phenomenal - literally the best videos on CZcams… you need your own tv show! Great work
Thank you! Really appreciate the support
I love how Epic Spaceman plays with beautiful images to give me a mind-boggling glimpse into the immensity of just a nebula. To be honest, its size is way beyond human imagination.
Thank you! I think you’re right there, we can only gain glimpses of that scale but a glimpse is enough to give us that sense of wonder.
Bro, you nailed it! This was awesome, looking forward to more! 🍻
Thank you so much! Really appreciate the support and can't wait to make the next one!
I grew up watching Carl Sagan's Cosmos. Astronomy has always fascinated me. This is stunning and beautiful work. I knew that The Orion Nebula was big, but I didn't realize it was that big. Absolutely incredible. Looking forward to more!
Thanks so much! Cosmos and Carl are a big inspiration for me, so pleased you watched it and also enjoyed this. Thanks for commenting!
This what CZcams should be for! Inspiring new and old generations of people to keep wondering!
Thank you! I agree!
I can't believe this video exists
Thanks!
Just came across your channel tonight and I'm just blown away by your content and presentation. Everything is so well explained that it puts things in perspective and easy to understand rather than just hearing big numbers and light years that we humans cannot even comprehend. I have been following many space and universe-related channels but none have made me captivated and hooked like yours. Thank you so much for bringing back that lost spark and curiosity I had about the universe years ago when I was in college. Please continue to make more videos. Your work is nothing short of amazing. Thank you for doing this.
I hope your channel hits 1 million soon cos you deserve it.
PS: I don't usually make comments on videos but I just had to for this. That's how excited I am.
Wow, thank you so much for such a wonderful comment. It really makes my day when someone articulates all the things they enjoyed as the things I was trying to cram in. I do really want these to be as accessible as possible while also catching some of that childlike wonder we all have in us. Thanks again for taking the time to be so supportive!
If you were my astronomy professor, I wouldn't be able to look away. Normally, I don't care much about space unless it involves other planets or the known stars. But this was put together perfectly, and your voice is so soothing. It's perfect for narration.
Thank you! That’s very kind of you, really pleased you’re enjoying the videos and narration!
This was absolutely beautifully depicted. The quality has absolutely held up, I didn’t even realize it was 2 years old until I started writing this comment. When you showed the full scale of the Orion Nebula that gave me a full body ASMR experience as silly as that sounds to some lol I get full body chills every time I see the scale of our Universe, it’s so mind blowing and humbling and beautiful ❤
Thank you for the wonderful and thoughtful comment!
Love it ♥️♥️♥️
I had a dream 2 nights ago that I was flying thru space at incredible speeds, entire galaxies were flying by me. I then stopped and realized how far away I was from home but it didn't make me feel sad because I knew I could get back in an instant and that's when I woke up. Scale is a weird and oddly disturbing idea sometimes lol and these videos make scale seem not only immense and true, but wonderful and inspiring. Thank you
Thank you for the wonderful comment, your dream sounded amazing too!
Consider my mind absolutely blown. Absolutely amazing execution, the way that the video flows is a testament to how good the animation, writing and narration really are.
Subscribed and I can't wait to see more!
Thanks so much, really appreciate the comment and the sub!
Oh wow!! I always look for Orion's belt, but never knew about the nebula. The graphics are stunning and I've learnt something new as well (yeah maths would have made my brain melt so the scale was great). Epic!
Thank you so much! Very pleased you enjoyed it, the maths melts my brain too but I love to see things on a scale I can just about wrap my head around. So the video was just as much for me as for anyone else!
I've been working nights and, walking from my car to my front door looking up at Orion on these clear nights, oh boy! Thank you for educating me with awe, it is truly appreciated - Mahalo!
@@thomasmoore3935 ʻAʻole pilikia! It’s a wonderful thing to look up at, especially if you’re in Hawaii right now.
I found this channel so late, and im in love - and all caught up with your videos. I am so thrilled that people like you exist and absolutely mind-blown and how beautiful your production, work, and execution is; in every single video.
Thank you, that’s super kind and I really appreciate it!
this channel is amazing! thank you for making this.
You’re very much welcome, so pleased you’re enjoying it so much!
Man, I’m right there with your sentiment at the end of the video. Maybe you just caught me at a vulnerable time, but that last sequence (the whole video really too) moved me more than most things have recently, I shared that same child-like wonder with these awesome graphics and the way you portray the information. 10/10, cool concept and great execution, interested to see what’s in store!
Thanks so much, that was a wonderful comment to read so thanks for taking the time. So easy to get a bit jaded by life and just getting through it and living in a city like I do it’s not always easy to see the stars. But whenever I do get those chances and moments to look up, it doesn’t have to be for long, I always look for Orion and the nebula and just know there’s all this magical, amazing stuff like that out there. Just a little glimpse of something profound like that and the stars in general is like a little reset button and I turn into a little kid for a moment. Not sure what this says about me but one of my favourite quotes is by Oscar Wilde “we are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars”. Looking forward to making more and thanks again!
Incredibly well done - the scale of the universe we live in is always mind blowing. Great job man! Keep ‘em coming!
Thank you! It is indeed, will be making many more for sure.
I always loved the fact that there's 10000 stars in the universe for every grain of sand on earth!
There are indeed, it’s crazy!
Please don't ever stop making this content. It's unbelievably beautiful and it helps me demonstrate the wonder of the universe to my little boy.
What a wonderful comment, thank you! I only have plans to make this channel bigger and keep making these videos so no problem there. So pleased you’re enjoying them enough to share with your son!
This is absolutely crazy! Keep working! You are doing great job and amazing content!
Thank you so much! Thanks for taking the time to comment.
I can see your videos being used in an educational setting, so please never stop making these. Between the feeling of awe, and the facts that i didnt know before watching this, i can see people paying to watch this. The quality is outstanding, better then what you can see on the science Channel, hands down.
Thank you so much, I’m definitely going to keep making these and thanks for the vote of confidence!
Keep them coming! We love your work!
Thanks so much!
You’re right about finding wonder in the Universe. Last week I saw the most perfect meteor go from the southeast to the northwest. I was looking at Orion at the time and my viewpoint was perfect for this super long, super bright meteor.
Amazing, what a wonderful moment that must have been! It doesn’t get much better
Unbelievable, marvellous, stupendous! I can’t believe I’m just finding these videos now! You’re work on scales is masterful and PLEASE PLEASE make more of these, you absolutely are going places, and the world needs to see your work. I haven’t been this mesmerized in a long time and really hope to see more soon!
I can’t say it enough, your videos are amazing
What a wonderful comment! Thank you so much for the vote of confidence, I’m planning to do so many more so I hope you keep enjoying them. Cheers again!
Totally agree ✨his is wow…………!!!!
Thanks!@@christinebethencourt6197
Wait until you hear how much energy is released during a black hole merger event producing gravitational waves.
This was pretty incredible. The scale of the nebula, the narration and visuals, all top notch. Awesome job.
Thank you!
Hi my name is Jamie and I'm the lucky father of 2 beautiful girls. My eldest is coming up to 5yrs. She currently loves learning about the solar system with me. Your beautiful videos are an incredible way to help her understand the beauty around her. Thankyou so much for blowing her tiny inquisitive mind.
Thank you! That’s a brilliant message to get, I have a four year old too and one of the main reasons I made this is for them so it’s wonderful to get messages like this. Thanks again!
Yep, right back to being a kid with every one I watch. Thank you 👏👏👏👏
You’re very much welcome, so pleased it brought a little of that sense of awe and wonder
I'll say it. Probably one of the highest quality bit of produced content on CZcams right now. ✅ keep it up man. Even if you upload 1 video a year, this quality will bring people here eagerly awaiting your next journey. Earned a new subscriber no doubt.
Thank you so much! I definitely want to keep the production quality high and make it even better where I can. The support is greatly appreciated.
I am beyond blown away. I started a channel just now making visual essays and now im speechless. I cant imagine how you made this. Cannot wait for more!!!
Thank you so much! Lots of hard work but looking forward to making more!Good luck with your channel
Clearly late to the party, but blown away by quality of video, narration and small fact I’ve learned about my favourite constellation
Thanks so much! Great to have you here
I am a Primary School teacher and I have shown these videos to my class who have really enjoyed them. One of my children in the class called Buddy would like you to make a video about the planet Pluto because it is a dwarf planet and he wants to know if it is extinct and to learn more about it. Many thanks. Logan in the class enjoyed The extreme scale of the Orion Nebula most of all because it had more facts and was fascinating.
What a wonderful comment, thanks so much for taking the time to write it and let me know how your class got to see and enjoy it. If you get a moment do please thank them for watching and let them know I’m so pleased they enjoyed them. It sounds like Logan has some great ideas, Pluto is an amazing little dwarf planet and if he were to draw out what the orbits of the planets looked like (flat circles) and then drew out what Pluto’s orbit looked like, we’d see quite quickly one of the reasons it’s so special. It might also be interesting to compare the size of Pluto with the size of the Moon. Or compare the size of one of Jupiters Moon’s Ganymede with the first planet Mercury. Lots of interesting places in our solar system!
Yeah, me and my friends enjoyed it too , it’s so amazing and take loads of effort in these videos ! It’s incredibly amazing ! Thanks very much and hope you can make more fantastic videos ! By the way I’m also one child from “ mr jones” class. Can’t wait to see more epic videos ! Enjoy Christmas too!! Happy holidays
Thanks so much for commenting too! It’s wonderful to hear how much you enjoyed it. I can’t wait to make many more videos for you all. The next one is going to be on Black Holes and I’ll release it in about four weeks!
Love this! Thank you so much! I'm always trying to explain the scale of the universe to people. It's mind boggling. Even just the distances in our own solar system. Everything is way bigger and way further away than most people realize. That why the speed of light, or rather the speed at which things occur, is irrelevant. If you want to travel the galaxy you're gonna need FTL, warp speed, jump gates, or something like quantum teleportation, brother. Thanks again! LOVE THIS!!!!
So pleased you enjoyed it and thanks for the awesome comment! You’re definitely right on people’s perception of scale. I genuinely think if you could press a button and I could immediately, fully comprehend the size of the solar system alone, I’d probably throw up and curl up into a ball for a while 😂 It’s just soooo big out there and in everyday life we have no access to that kind of distance comprehension. The best I can do is make these metaphors to make them more bite sized and not overwhelming and be able to turn those crazy numbers into things more relevant that you can remember and take away. And yes humans aren’t leaving the solar system for a very long time! Thanks again!
I knew the nebula was big but I had no idea it was that big. Thanks for the great video!
It’s crazy isn’t it?! There are some much bigger nebulae too!
I never ever subscribe so quickly in a channel. I usually have to see some videos first, then be sure that I want to see more and then do it. I just did it here in a matter of minutes. Well done sir!
Thank you! Appreciate the hard earned sub!
As I get older, I also find it hard to feel wonder, but when I do, it's because I'm looking towards the creatures, the life, the geology, the ecology, the interactions between life forms and where they live.
The web of life, what we call natural history and the study of ecology just captivates me.
Grounds me.
This world, all the life forms and interactions on it, fills me with wonder.
Just like these videos do in regards to the macro.
Great work! Amazing visuals! It's always fun to see new size comparisons about stuff in the universe, and this was very well done
Thanks so much Bernard! I’m a sucker for size comparisons too and really enjoyed taking the numbers and trying to reverse engineer what objects and places could help me grasp them. Plus I got to climb Everest…unofficially!
@@EpicSpaceman haha, and not many did that with Orion's nebula surrounding them ;-) ! Good to see your subscribe numbers jump up, really rooting for you here! But if you keep this 'Hollywood' quality up, I'm very sure you'll get there! Good luck on your endeavors, and can't wait on your next one!
Amazing as always, Toby! I look forward to seeing you do something like this in the IMAX format someday!
Thank you so much Eric, high praise from a real spaceman! That would indeed be a dream, I hope you enjoyed my choice of scale, it was amazing to actually see how small I'd be at the top of Everest.
@@EpicSpaceman I did, indeed!
@@ericfalconi I can claim that as climbed now, have the footage to prove it!
Beauty of visuals, calmness of narration, beauty of music and way you combined all of this talent just makes me cry every time I watch your videos. It just moves my soul. People like you make this planet a better place
You have a wonderful way of making astronomical sizes understandable! I really enjoyed this
Thank you! Definitely trying to make those scales work a bit better, if only for my own benefit! Glad you enjoyed too!
You have truly created such a breathtaking piece of art that is this video in showing just how amazing and vast just even a small crumb of our universe is. Thank you for this experience and hope this channel blows up and gives it it's much deserved success.
Thanks so much, such a kind comment, really appreciate it
You deserve way more subscribers. These are the type of videos they should be showing in classrooms along with Melodysheep. Awesome stuff, can't wait for the next video and hope this channel will continue to grow. Good luck!
Thanks so much for the kind words, some teachers have told me they’re going to play my videos in class which is such a wonderful thing to hear. I appreciate the support!
How does this not have millions of views holy crap this is amazong
Thank you! Appreciate the support
dude i have to say i’m blown away by all of your videos. space is something that has always fascinated me, and you capture the scale and beauty of it incredibly well in your videos. please keep making them, they are amazing
Thank you! Really appreciate the positivity and kind words, I’ll definitely keep making these, I really enjoy it and feedback like this really helps. Cheers!
Very cool, in love with the ASMR and wonderful visuals. Thank you for making it!
I am a little quietly spoken! Glad you enjoyed it!
I can’t even put into words how much I loved this video!! I never knew about this nebula and I can’t wait to go down this rabbit hole!! Thank you so much for creating something so beautiful and inspiring ❤️
What a lovely comment, thank you! So pleased you enjoyed it
The utterly stunning, magificent, but also terrifying and remote, actual universe, the one that really exists...
It really is all those things, magnificent and full of so much cool stuff but also terrifyingly empty and huge.
I discovered this little secret all alone by myself using my dad's binoculars at the age of 8, and this was marvelous!! Thanks for this video, I love you man!
How wonderful! Binoculars are pretty amazing for stargazing
Really amazing video. I love the format and would love to see more comparisons like this. There’s so much stuff in the universe to cover. Galaxies, clusters, superclusters, voids, etc. Anything that reminds me of the scope of the universe on a daily basis is amazing because it teaches humility and makes me thankful to be a part of this existence.
Wonderfully put, thank you! I’ve got a video on the local group for my first video and my latest is on the Milky Way if you haven’t seen it: czcams.com/video/VsRmyY3Db1Y/video.html
I've just recently discovered your vids. and I'm very impressed!! The audio and visuals are great and your explanations and comparisons are OUT OF THIS WORLD!!!! Love it! P.S. I've subscribed!
Thanks so much for the super kind words! Looking forward to sharing more and thanks too for the sub!
Bravo! I really enjoyed this and shared it with my 7 year old daughter. Blew her mind to see it, especially when I put it on the projector. She said it felt like she was standing in space for that moment. Thanks for the Awe 🎉
I am stunned by both, the info you gave and the way you presented it.
Thank you! Definitely trying to make them both special
Another masterpiece of educational material Epic Spaceman. My son and I watched your previous video last night as I wanted to introduce him to your channel. He enjoyed it very much! The first time I was introduced to astronomy was in grade 12 at my high school. It was a pilot program that was only available in some high schools across Canada back in 1990. I was then introduced to Dr Carl Sagan. We watched the original Cosmos in wonderment. It sparked me to take Astronomy and astrophysics in university as a minor. Thank you for bringing the wonderment back to me. Your voice is perfect for these videos and the graphics extraordinary. I haven’t watched all of them yet, but I’d love to see you do something about the JWST, unless you already have. I believe today or yesterday marks the first anniversary of those spectacular first images it brought back to humanity. Keep up the great work!
Thank you for such a wonderful comment and story, I think Cosmos and Carl and his books must be responsible for so much scientific progress by inspiring so many people. I’m very much inspired by him first and a couple of others, trying to reach some of that child-like wonder and share it in the most accessible way I can think of. Would definitely like to do something on the JWST, I think Hubble is one of the best things humans have ever made, that first ultra deep field is so profound, perhaps the best image ever taken and JWST just continues that legacy. I loved the set of images they posted yesterday, I think I’d only seen one or two of them already, they’re just incredible.
This is truly awe inspiring to so many of us, you really put it into context. I do hope your channel becomes huge just like the Orion Nebula. This would be so good for school Science departments to use in their teachings. Thank you Epic Spaceman.
Thanks for taking the time to write that super kind comment! Really pleased you enjoyed it so much and felt it was something that would work in schools. Some teachers have told me they’ve used some of the videos and I’d really like to get this channel to a point where it is a good teaching resource for any age. I definitely can’t think of a better use of my time and comments like this really motivate me so thank you again.
That's great news to hear they are using your material. I really look forward to more of your content. I shall be showing my children these videos. Many thanks.@@EpicSpaceman
I'm absolutely blown away by the quality of your content, dear sir. You took such a simple idea and blended it with your creativity and graphical expertise to create such a masterpiece. I'm not just a subscriber or a fan of your content anymore, I'm a devotee. Bless you!
I have been watching space since Carl Sagan first gave us Cosmos... fascinated on every level, I have predicted many discoveries throughout the years.. as our universe unfolds before our eyes... I am truly humbled and grateful to still be aware of its greatness... thank you for your works to bring clarity to your viewers. 🙏🏻
Thank you! So pleased you enjoyed it, Cosmos was incredible
I love how you make it so easy for us to understand by visual examples.
I’m humbled by how significant and insignificant we are.
Keep up the amazing work you’re doing.
Thanks so much for the super kind words and encouragement. Really pleased you enjoyed it! Will be making lots more.
I'm speechless. Well done and looking forward to more of these!
Thank you so much, really appreciate it and can't wait to make more!
I have an insatiable curiosity about the universe and your channel is another wonderful example of resources available today to learn without walls. Thank-you.
You’re very much welcome and I’m so pleased you’re enjoying it and finding it useful!
WHY ARE THE GRAPHICS SO AMAZING. I LITERALLY CANT.
Thanks so much!
Absolutely incredible, I also never knew about the nebula but the way you bring it to life is jaw dropping. Erin loved the dancing at the end as well! 👏🏼👏🏼 We can’t wait for the next one
Thank you Chris! So pleased that she enjoyed the moves, dance-off will be needed I think. Cheers for the support!
Absolutely phenomenal. I loved this. Can’t wait to see what you make next!
Thanks so much, looking forward to making the next one! Already started!
I have taught astronomy and shown people the wonders of the night sky and the best reaction is when someone says 'wow', these films will have a lot of people saying wow, keep up the good work.
Incredible. This can make me cry.
Thank you, I’m so pleased you enjoyed it so much and I appreciate you taking the time to let me know
Thank you so much for your reply and taking the time to say such kind things, it really does mean the world to me. I look forward to making and sharing more!
If you put out one video every 6 months, I'll patiently wait for the next one. This is incredible work!
Thank you! I'm working on it as we speak, I was hoping to do it faster than the others but it's a bit longer and life and work stuff are slowing me down, it's so nice to hear from people saying they're happy to wait, it makes me feel I'm not quite letting people down with the slow speed!
Getting a practical reference so we can understand the extreme distances in space is amazing. Your videos are the gold standard for easily explanation of astronomical concepts.
Thank you so much! Really pleased you found the scale worked well, I really enjoy trying to come up with ways to make those distances make more sense, for myself as much as anyone else.
This is fantastic!! Captivating, beautiful, interesting and wanting more. I could watch one hour episodes to just learn and explore. This is what I miss in science television as a kid. I'm sure this is awe-inspiring to young kids today!
Thank you! It would be wonderful to think kids might watch this too and be inspired, I’m still a kid at heart deep down and this stuff really still feels like magic to me.
Awesome video. I also always had the same feeling of wonder looking up at Orion, still do. I actually have this weird phobia where these star/interstellar object comparisons send my fight or flight crazy. Also stuff like special FX videos of the moon crashing into the Earth or getting too close to a giant star, gives me full on fear. Weird stuff because I don't have any other phobias. Anyway this video also did that to me which was a fun ride! Shows how good the visuals are. Thanks.
Haha! Thanks so much and apologies for making it a little too real! I guess I was trying really hard to make it relatable and down to Earth and that sounds like the exact thing that can make it seem overwhelming, hope the ride wasn’t too crazy!
You're an inspiration! I hope kids are watching this in school.
Thank you! A few teachers have told me they’ve used these in classes which is amazing to hear
Ahh man I love your videos. They are unlike anything available on youtube and your voice is so soothing. Please keep making these
These videos are incredible! I can't wait to see more! I've always been fascinated by the universe, and the night sky, and even woke up at 4 am this morning to try to see some fireballs from the Delta Aquariids (but no such luck) I look forward to seeing more of these videos. This is an excellent concept, and really helps to visualize the true awe-inspiring scale of the universe. I hope you consider doing something on the scale of some of the gargantuan blackholes compared to other celestial objects. I know that's been done, but not the way you do this. Thanks!
Thank you! Sorry to hear you didn’t see anything at 4am but hopefully if the skies were clear it was still a wonderful view. Thanks for the kind words, definitely doing something in black holes in one of my next videos!
This is amazing mate! The voice and the visuals are both very well-done! I’m a huge fan of space science, and I hope to see more videos from you. Good luck man, really beautiful video!
Thank you so much, space is awesome!
I’m 47 years old what I thought I aways knew I never knew astronomy the way I do now. This is amazing!!
Thank you! Really pleased you’re enjoying it, when I make and research these videos I’m always surprised to learn so many new things in areas I thought I already knew, learning about the Universe is always a wonderful journey to be on.
Yes sir absolutely! Where are you from my friend? Georgia US here. I’m amazed at the graphics and how you put the viewer right in the heart of the universe. I had to watch several of your videos multiple times to grasp the concept of it all. Never before have I’ve ever seen any other platform present the scale of space and the wonder of it all as you have. Your at the top of my list, I absolutely can not wait to see the next one. (black holes)
As a suggestion if I
may, have you considered doing the planets? Saturn would be off the charts as far as cool factor goes! Thank you for taking your time in doing these. I’m gonna share your content with everyone I know ❤
So glad your channel finally turned up in my recommended list. Incredible graphics and astounding comparisons.
Thank you! Really appreciate the supportive words and am so pleased it arrived in your recommended too!
I've been thinking about how so many pictures of space have "false color" applied, often because they're originally developed from light outside the visible spectrum. But nebulae are often very colorful "naturally," so they don't always have this applied. Sometimes we might get a false idea of how space "actually" looks, but there a lot of features can't be seen in visible light, so false coloration is needed for that.
Anyway, I'm just musing. This could be a cool idea for a future video, where you show comparisons of different imaging methods. I mean, there are plenty of examples of things that look more interesting in visible light, like nebulae (especially The Pillars of Creation), but there are some really cool things like galactic core structures that can only be seen in radio.
Thanks! You’re right I think it’s really interesting, nebulae do look particularly wonderful in the visible spectrum but they’re actually a bit too faint, we have to effectively take long exposures of them to see all the wonderful colour. Also there are a lot of areas of the universe where sometimes we have to do something more like an artistic representation because our eyes or light just can’t see it, like visualising an atom. That just makes the storytelling more of a fun puzzle though. I think the James Webb telescope will give us some interesting images because it’s more into the infra red than Hubble so will perhaps see less pretty but more profound images as it looks deeper. Thanks again!
I love the way u explain the universe and the amazing things inside it!! Hats off to you brother. I can’t wait to see what awesome space content you post!👍
Thank you so much! Looking forward to sharing more!
Ive just had a conversation with my dad that illustrates the importance of understanding of cosmic scale. I posed to him (a phd holding biologist) 'if the sun was the width of a human hair, how big would the orion nebula be?' With out putting much thought into it, he replied 'the size of the earth'. I did the math - that would make his theoretical nubula 2.237 × 10^17 miles wide - 36% the diameter of the milky way 😂. Love your videos, subbed and sharing
Thank you! I think that illustrates a really important point, basically nobody has an inherent understanding of cosmic scale, you can work it out but not ‘see’ it or feel it in your head, only a good scale model can really get you there and can give you a better understanding of space than an average astrophysicist. Glad you’re enjoying!
I feel I have been waiting all my life for your videos, thank you so much.
You are very welcome! I’m so pleased you’ve found them to be something different and special. Can’t wait to have more to share!
Wow! Wonderful narration along with mesmerizing visuals. Hope to see more of these. Thanks for this enthralling astronomy lesson.
So pleased you enjoyed it, thanks for commenting!
Found you on Reddit! This is an awesome idea for a channel, can't wait for more space videos
Thanks! So glad you like the channel idea, I can’t wait to make more!
Your little monologue is the same reason why I liked space and science since I was a kid 3:00
This channel is, in one word, EPIC!
Love your work, hungry for more.
Fantastic job!!! Keep doing the work you're doing, I'm not a novice about cosmology but an amateur at best. I haven't seen a video about the Orion Nebula, so a great topic choice, as far as I am concerned. Also a fantastic idea about mentioning the channel, bc it's what got me here from Reddit. Keep up the tremendous work you're doing.
Thanks so much, so pleased you managed to find your way here, absolutely love Reddit but can be a little tricky to direct people here. Thanks again for taking the time to comment!
Wow, I never knew the Orion belt middle star was a nebula. Amazing work - brilliant graphics (IMAX level), please keep making more videos, its educational and visually stunning.
Aloha, Ankit, and greetings from Hawaii! Remember this nebula is the middle star of the sword 🗡of Orion, not the belt! Cheers!
Thanks so much! Really pleased you enjoyed the visuals too!
Incredible visuals. Perfect voice for narrating something like this. Plz keep it up. Looking forward to your next video!
Thanks again, really appreciate the support!
You brought an exhale as if you had not worn out the amazement.
Glad you enjoyed it, got to take a breath sometimes when it’s just so crazy!
To me, your voice and narration is what sells this video. The production quality is astounding, but I'm selfishly worried that holding yourself to such a standard would reduce your output significantly. If you made longer videos that were simpler visually I would be just as engrossed! However, if you keep this up I see you reaching the popularity of a channel like Kurzgesagt
Thank you for your very kind words! It’s certainly a difficult decision about speed/quality/length balance but I do think I can start making them faster but keep the quality and potentially make them longer too. I’m still learning VFX so these first two videos have involved a lot of testing and streamlining things. Thanks again and so pleased you enjoyed it!
Awesome video ! Apart from properly contextualising the scales of cellestial object you also made one additional thing clear.
The way I've been using Blender is something akin to using a fusion reactior to heast up a frozen pizza.
Haha! Thank you! Blender is a very versatile tool, definitely no right or wrong way to use it as long as you’re enjoying it. Appreciate it though!
I was wondering why this channel only had a 96k subs until I saw that theyve only put out a few videos. My prediction is that this channel is going to blow up the more videos they release. Every channel has to start somewhere and theyre doing a great job so far!!!
Thank you again, the faith in the channel is greatly appreciated. I do hope to make them more regularly this year and build up more momentum but I’m really happy with the way it’s going, as you say I’ve only made 5 videos so far so I know I’ve been really lucky with the support. Looking forward to sharing many more this year!
So underrated it's sad. This man deserves at least 15 million subscribers. I genuinely think he is intentionally being ignored by CZcams. Amazing video! 🔥 Keep it up you're doing great
Something I've always wondered about is what do stars look like in other galaxies. What type of technology would it take to be able to photograph a star outside of the Milky Way?
I believe we can now, we have photos of galaxies like Andromeda and I suspect the LMC, where you can discern some individual stars and there are certain types of stars like neutron stars that are incredibly bright. Also there is at least one instance I’ve heard of where gravitational lensing has revealed a star far outside our galaxy, that’s very cool and rare.
