    So much for the new breed standard of 'open nostrils'. Honestly wouldn't surprise me if the judge chose this because of the recent backlash against brachy breeds

      That dog does a lot of winning and to be fair you didn't see him flagging or panting during his time in the ring.

      Define recent because they have been saying they are careful with the breeding since at least last year. Actually, I think one of the brachy breeds wasn't approved last year, exactly because of that issue.
      Still, maybe the breeds should be revisited.

    Excellent commentary as always! Enjoyed hearing little bits about the personality of the breed winners. Couldn’t stop laughing at the comment from the owner who described her Keeshond as “ a loveable idiot” 😂

    The Canaani is beautiful. They're so rare that the best of breeds aren't always great, but this one was lovely.

    Love that real akita inu. Better build than the american akita inu. The shiba inu lost thru bad handling. I.m.o.

    The Bulldog was a stand out..and now approved for Health standards by the KC...huge improvement in the standard and about time too. What a beautiful boy today

    The judges opinion on his group winning dog: Into the spotlight went the amazing Frenchie, 759 Ch/Esp Ch Chelmbull Rocket Man Ww
    (Miss A & Mr D, Mr A & Mrs L Cund & Harrop). So typical and mature in head with super expression,
    totally balanced in outline and excellent topline. Put down in hard condition, so fit and healthy with
    fabulous movement; he looked as if he could go all day! Congratulations to his breeder for producing
    such a super ambassador for the breed.

    Of all the lovely dogs to choose from and the judge picks the Frenchie with stenotic nares….and then they wonder who is ruining dog shows. Would love to see a back x-ray of this dog as well!!
    If the judges keeps this up there will be no dog shows!! 😢

      Think they said next year Frenchies won’t be even allowed to go in the breed rings if they have severe breathing problems, along with Bulldogs and Pugs. Hopefully this will improve things.

      Drives me insane, they always go on about how important open nostrils are for the brachy breeds and yet every bloody dog that wins top awards has pinched nares, it’s embarrassing for the sport and the people who keep breeding them and being delusional about the state of the breeds health should be ashamed

      @@samanthamcgoff3384Elton has passed his breathing tests. Nares aren’t the only factor when looking at a dog with breathing issues. It’s more in the structure of the dogs neck along with the soft pallet. The crappier a dogs structure in the head and neck is the worse their soft pallet will be. That’s why there’s a breed standard

      The reason it has won is because dog showing is about friends awarding other friends top prizes. I was in the show world for many years

      The scary thing is this dog has been winning a lot elsewhere, I don’t care how correct the outline or shape dogs should not be permitted to show with nostrils that closed, it makes me ashamed to be a dog show enthusiast

      @@jadewelling3459Elton has passed his breathing exams. Judges go off of who fit the breed standard the best overall. Elton has passed his breathing exams and health tests. He is a great example of the breed

      Even if he has passed the BOAS test, the fact her has closed nares,completely flat face, over crowding of teeth, terrible spine and these are just a few things wrong with this dog and this breed

    If they actually banned showing dogs with stenotic nares like they should there would probably have only been 2 frenchies in the ring at all, disgraceful choice

    THAT is a shiba inu? they've altered the breed. it's looking slightly stockier than previous standard. the silhouette is looking more like a mini alaskan malamute than shiba inu of yesteryears

      Wasn't it one person's choice of dog on the day. Without seeing the rest of the entry I don't think you can say that "they've" altered the breed.

      @@tdk9518 no it's not. every breed has to follow the breed standard, which dictate the breed structure, outline and frame, among other features. so if that shiba inu was picked, the rest shouldn't stray too far from that aesthetic. but breed standard in america and uk are different for some breeds.

      @@9razzler9 It wasn't one person's choice on the day? I Think you will find that it was. I say again, that was the judges interpretation of the breed standard on the day. They shouldn't stray too far from that breed standard and this is that judges version of it. This was one dog from the entry so no we can't say "they" have changed anything based on that.

    The judge is probably trying to do some frenchie breeder friends some favours by giving 1st place to a dog lile this. He has no nostrils. This is beyond messed up. There will be method to the madness......

      @@pugleyp354 No I got what you said, you implied that someone you don't know is a corrupt judge doing someone favours. You also said the dog is messed up and yet the dog functioned perfectly normally. Not my sort of thing but that doesn't mean it wasn't his. When critics of particular breed traits start implying that people who breed these dogs or own these dogs are like the scum of the Earth I lose interest and sympathy. You should be able to make a point without doing that. Anything else implies yet more internet gleaned information and hysteria.

    Xolo the national dog of Korea? I suspect a bit of misinformation there, and they should not have oily skin

      The Xolo is Mexican. There's also a Korean hairless dog, which is a separate breed that *is* the national dog of Korea. They correctly described the Xolo during the first pass as an Aztec breed.

    Shocking. Shame on the KC and shame on that judge. So many healthy and wonderful dogs to give the award too yet this health abomination wins.

      He won because dog shows go by who best fits the standard in every catagory. He has 1 fault and that’s his nares which can be fixed with breeding with a female of the same grade and better nares. 2 if you decide to count the ears based off of your personally preference. The rest do the dogs didn’t fit the breed standard as well as Elton fit his standard hence why he won

    This dog has no visible nares (nostrils). You can see after he won he's breathing through his mouth.
    Congratulations for condoning abuse I guess

    I can't stand the feeding of dogs in the ring while being examined by the judge. Baiting is fine but if I was judging I wouldn't allow the actual feeding.

      @bamboozled5742 Because when the judge goes to mouth the dog, the dog may think its going to get good and there is a risk of biting the judges hand or fingers. Plus, watching a dog chomping on a chunk of bait in the showing is not attractive at all.

      You are right. Exhibitors should keep the food away from the dogs mouth while the judge is handling the dogs head. I have seen people baiting the dog right as the judge goes to check the dogs bite.

      The keeshond handler was literally shoving food in the dogs face as he's trying to look at it 🤦‍♀️ and she thinks the dogs an idiot 🙄
