This kinda makes me think about an old lady I’ve heard about but never met. When I was a kid I was having LOTS of seizures so I was rushed to the hospital I needed brain surgery but the next free slot was in two days but the doctors didn’t know if I could make it that long so they spoke with an elderly lady who was supposed to have hip surgery in an hour or two and explained that there was a very sick 4 year old girl who desperately needed surgery and asked if she would be willing to give up her slot and she agreed I was prepped and in surgery in an hour and I’m still alive today because of her . Years later my mum told me I wouldn’t have lasted the night if it wasn’t for her. She was my guardian angel that day and I wish I could have met her again to tell her how grateful I am and that I’ve lived a good life because of her I’m now 24 and now am expecting a niece🥹. Thank you old lady you saved my life.❤

This surgery wasn't what cause Karen's death, she was already on life support. It's like when a patient is in critical they might cut their life short so they can donate a organ to someone in dire need at the time like a heart or something fragile.
Edit: organs deteriorate quickly, so even if they are somewhat stable if you know their not going to be like that much longer they cut it early for the sake of the recipient, or to prevent suffering like Jeremy Renner stated after the snowplow accident he didn't want to be on drugs and life support for the rest of his life.

There was a male teen who had died and his face was transplanted onto someone who had facial disfiguration (can’t remember if he was born that way or had an accident) and had been trying to get it reconstructed for years. Both families were sad one boy had died for it to happen but happy to give someone a shot at a normal life.
I’ve been at a hospital working when I was asked to come to the first floor to honor an organ donor. He was a young man who became brain dead due to a motor cycle accident… it was an honor to be there but so difficult to see his family walk by him

The daughter isn’t “sacrificed”. She’s brain dead. The only thing sacrificed is an open casket. If you’re not signed up as an organ and tissue donor, please do. Our organs don’t go with us to the afterlife, but in some cases can save others’ lives.

It’s more generous than brave. The girl is brain dead. She will never recover and will likely die soon, anyway, even with life support. Choosing to let a brain dead loved one go is the really hard part, harder than choosing to donate organs and tissue before unplugging them.

Context:
Karen got into a fatal accident and passed away, having suffered severe trauma and multiple organ failure. Her organs were not eligible to be donated but the chief doctor Dr. Andrews had a previous patient, Molly with a past horrible facial injury, whose skeletal framework was similar to Karen's. So the doctors motivated Karen's grieving mother to donate her daughter's face to Molly.

When doctors say you’re “dead” and want to donate your organs, you aren’t always actually dead.
There's dead dead and there's brain dead. Brain dead is where the body is technically alive but your brain isn't functioning and you will never wake up. They take organs from patients that are either dead or will never wake up
Don't make shit up. Doctors will always try and save a patient, but if your dead and your organs are viable they know so many peoples lives can be helped/saved by that.

The girl was dead already, she was braindead. The only reason she was on life support was because her mother wasn't ready to say goodbye yet, and she was a great donor.
Legally, you can't donate things like a heart or a face from someone that is still alive, even if they really want that.
The mother was incredibly against donating the face, because she thought seeing her dead daughter's face on someone else was just wrong, but after a whole episode of convincing she agreed.

well when your kid is brain dead and you can help another in some way why wouldnt you? your kid isnt going to wake up...why not donate? it helps people. imo one of the strongest things you can do is donate a loved ones organs, its not an easy choice and most arent ready to let go..but it truly does help a ton of people. so yes, she was being a good mother. she used her daughter to help another girl because her daughter wasnt going to make it.

From my understanding of the show, the girl who gave her face was not going to wake up
She was on life support so I’m guessing she was brain dead already and there was no chance of her waking up, she was technically already dead the only thing keeping her alive was the machines, the mom gave the other girl a chance to live a normal life knowing her daughters life was over. That’s how being an organ donor works, once your life if over you give someone else a chance at a better one. None of this could have happened in the real world atleast unless the girl was an organ donor and brain dead.
The first girl faced a terrible accident and her brain died. So hospital asked for organ donation and in this scene there was the second girl, who had basickly no life becaus of her face. So chief of Surgery convinced first girl mother to donate the face of her brain died dauter

This may have come from a movie but the "walk of honour" is very real for donors. I cried like a baby when I witnessed a walk of honour. A woman who had passed in childbirth. If you can, become a donor, I wish I could.
