  • South Yorkshire County Council was established in 1974, encompassing Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield. It was abolished in 1986 under local government reform.
This video, created in 1986, highlights the achievements of the council in the areas of Transport (including the cheapest bus fares in the country), Leisure (reference is made to Urban Action Week at Wentworth Woodhouse), the environment (including recycling), the Economy, and Protection (fire, police and trading standards, etc).
The original videotape is stored at Sheffield City Archives (ref. SYCC/MISC/1/53).
