Maybe I'm stating the obvious here, but Bonehead is definitely one of the reasons how they got that epic power-house sound. His guitar tracks sound massive isolated, let alone when the other tracks are mixed in. You can tell this in the live shows he's done with Liam recently.
No you're bang on, I very much agree. Bonehead's style was absolutely fundamental to the Oasis sound - you can hear the difference in Noel's solo stuff, the songwriting is good but the aggression is missing, and that's where Bonehead is needed I reckon
@JK Guitar as much as I thought Gem was a better guitarist them big overdriven barre chords Bondhead used to play were missed at times. I loved the Down By the River Gig where Bonehead played his original parts, Jay played Noels rhythm part and the lead guitarist (soz don’t know his name) played Noels lead lines. Massive sound!! 🙌🙌
Your correct! for Me when gem joined they lost a bit of depth (i love gem btw) only because he used a different guitar to bonehead. As he wad the engine behind the bands sond in the first 3 albums
This single for me is the greatest single Oasis ever released. Not only is the single great, but the three b-sides are simply unbeatable. All original compositions, all in the top 20 best Oasis songs and with an album cover that is interesting, eye-catching and instantly recognizable. Other singles may have had a stronger A-side, but no other Oasis single has three absolutely perfect B-sides. Totally deserving of being their first number 1.

When I listen to "Roll With It" , especially the intro drums, you instantly know why they hired him. You can instantly tell the difference of what a seasoned pro brings to a band. Isn't that a cowbell in the solo of that song? That's the first time a cowbell was ever used in an Oasis song and it fits perfectly and added gloriously to the song.
I always feel like the outro solo is so underrated & it's absolutely my favorite bit of any oasis song ever! the song sets up the ending of the song so well & the fade out is perfect. great video🤝
I saw one of the very first live performances of this, at the secret Bath Pavilion gig the night before they headlined Glastonbury ’95. Alan White’s first gig too
Yeah it's interesting - I'm pretty sure its just a Fender guitar straight into a very slightly overdriven clean channel on the Orange Amp in the photo. Could be wrong tho
Fascinating video. This era of Oasis always had an undefinable quality to it, their wall of guitars sounded like no-one else. Many tried to copy it and failed spectacularly. The clean Noel parts were particularly great to hear. I like how such a dense sound was conjured up with multiple tracks yet the man Liam just needed one and a bit of reverb. Can’t engineer class. Great video 👍
Yeah - Liam's vocal style was, as far as I can tell, completely original. I'm not aware of anyone in the past with that style - the way he stood, everything, was designed to drag that sound up from his guts
To me, Bonehead was an integral part of the Oasis sound. Once he was gone, the band lost their signature "wall of guitars", and became more of a 60s sound-alike band. Ironically, the more they managed to sound like the Beatles, the less I like their music. That raw energy and freshness of the Definitely Maybe/Morning Glory and even Be Here Now era disappeared.
Got a soft spot for this single, mainly sleeve cover, the train station is just down the road from me in cromford Derbyshire, the line wasn’t in use at the time, but it is now
No 11, the sound effect , is either a guitar shoved through a VCS3, with an lfo-filter sweep set up on patch, or it's any synth with an input to its filter (e.g. moog minimoog or Arp 2600) , or even a pedal which allows you to sweep a sound (like a flanger) in any direction, with a built in filter circuit.

Yeah James great detail you went into this classic Oasis tune. Noel certainly loves his layers like a graphic designer on Photoshop. It was a pity that Liam couldn't hit the high notes of Some Might Say doing this live. As Oasis binned it from their live sets not long after. Which was a blow especially it been their 1st number one. Have you ever thought of doing a video on how hard it is to sing Oasis songs live consistency like on a 3 to 6 month tour. I honestly believe singing Oasis songs day in, day out on tour would totally batter your singing vocals. As well the tempo that Liam sings in nowadays I think he cannot go mad like in his 20s or his singing vocals will just get shot big time. I think his doctor or a specialist had a wee word in his ear. That he has to sing in a more structure way these days.
Yeah you're right re singing - Liam stands the way he does on stage not to pose, but because that's how you have to stand to pull up that kind of tone from your guts (I'm a trained singing teacher as well as guitar) and if you do that without warming up or taking care of your vocal chords you will trash them. I just can't imagine what doing that week in week out from 93-98 did to Liam. But I really do reckon thats what made his voice change - he just bloody mangled it from never warming up, smoking, and pushing it too far. You remember when he started missing gigs because his voice was beginning to pack up?
Nice one James, ‘some might say’ is probably my favourite oasis song. Wish I knew all about the different tracks back in the day, my band would record rhythm & lead & think guitars were done 😆
Yeah, that's the bonus of having a producer like Owen Morris I guess - it was him who got them layering up their sound like this. On their earlier demos they did just lay it down exactly as they did live... and it wasn't a patch on this.

@@JamesHargreavesGuitar You're totally right, I'd never think of multi-tracking the rhythm guitar like that, mostly because I record my demos on an app that only has 8 tracks available so I can't afford to waste 3 tracks just on rhythm guitars, haha!
Cool, I may look into that, although the resources to really dig into the Stone Roses tracks are annoyingly really limited - they never released anything in any other formats so all you can hear is simply the finished songs and that's it. You never know though, something cool and new might come to light in the future where we get better access to their individual stems
Great video as always! This and Don’t Look Back in Anger were mixed at a slightly higher pitch (451Hz I think). Never really known the real reason for that, but definitely gives the songs a distinctive sound, no doubt.
Bass definitely sounds like Guigs. After hearing lots of isolated bass tracks played Noel there's a key difference between the two. Noel's playing is a bit more smooth sounding than Guigs and sounds less amateur-ish
I’m certain Guigs played bass, I just listened to the whole isolated bass track and the timing is so imprecise and so out of time, it can only be guigs
James great your teaching many out there to improve their singing and guitar playing. You should remember this one is probably the 1st time that Liam pulled out with a sore throat. The night Oasis did like acoustic unplug at the Royal Albert Hall. I'm pretty sure they showed it live on the tele at the time. Liam was up in the balcony hiding but still drinking booze with a puff of a cigarette too. You could tell Noel wasn't impressed and I'm sure that night was went it built the confidence into Noel to sing more than one or two Oasis songs live. Yeah singing Oasis songs day in, day out must be a proper cutthroat business for a singer.
What your ears hear James? Not a 'missed track', but Liam's vocal during 'Noel BGV 1' sound as if Owen slowed the tape down to create the buzz-saw effect (especially on "Shine"....of course).... IF I'm hearing that correctly....what do you think the odds are that varispeed effect was implemented more than a few times, whenever the word 'Shine" appears, in different Oasis tracks over the years?? As always, great content!!!
I have wondered - is this track slightly sped up, which is why it is in the key of E-Flat? I love Liam’s high vocals he hit in the choruses, but I don’t know if he actually hit them - if the actual recording was in a lower key (like they play it live in “D”, which is a typical Oasis key you’d expect)
Great video! It always blows my mind how these parts isolated never sound really complicated or hard, but once you mix them all together they form such a great song. Really makes you realize how good of a composer Noel is :)
Yeah their music was pretty simple and easy to play but the execution was spot on. Sometimes the simplest things are best. The whole is def Greater than the sum of is parts

I'd be inclined to say that tracks 6 and 7 sound more like Noel to me. The small inflections in his playing give it away (the A to Asus4 hammer on at the end of track 6 especially) Plus, they both have that raw JCM900 crunch sound that he used alot on the album. Great to hear the individual tracks though. Cheers!
Just found this vid. Really interesting. With Bone heads rhythm, track 5&6, it sounds to me to be the same take with the amp double mic'd with one off axis/centre,with track 7 as the distance mic. Could all be one take.
The "mad sound effect" is just a synthesiser of some sort. No idea what synth it would have been in 95, but to achieve that sound is pretty straightforward: Turn the resonance on a filter up high enough that it starts making noise by itself, assign a low frequency oscillator to control the volume, adjust the speed of the the LFO so that it's in time with the song, slowly adjust the cutoff frequency of the filter over the course of the section of the song. Getting the tempo right might be a bit tricky if the song isn't played to a click track, but apart from that it should take only a few minutes to create and record that sound
Think track 8 could be bonehead actually because it’s playing power chords which Noel rarely did , the one before actually sounds more like Noel because it sounds like open chords. Does this matte, not really

I think it's possible that Noel is the one who provides bass here. I've read long time ago that Guigsy was playing root notes only, and bass here is more complex than only roots.

Completely unrelated stumbled onto a band From my area, although I didn’t know they were from here when I was listening to them on iTunes! 😂 they have some brilliant songs kasama they are called check out the song deep water mate. Just when we were talking about the charts being pish at least there’s still some young bands out there, definitely worth a listen mate

Cheers Eddy! To be honest I think I'll always like the single version, because it's the version I've always known and loved. The demo is cool - and I bet Noel likes it because its the recording he first got to know! It's the full Liam-sung version for me tho

This is brilliant, it's amazing to know what actually goes into recording a song let alone an album. Why would Noel play the bass tracks though isn't that what guisgsy is there for how come he didn't do it for the album
Cheers - yeah he was just too imprecise for alot of recording was Guigsy. As far as I'm aware, Noel played all bass parts on DM, around half of them on WTSMG, and Guigsy did them all on BHN
@@JamesHargreavesGuitar seems like a similar situation to the first two albums by The Smashing Pumpkins (who fairly recently did a joint headline tour with Noel, oddly enough). While Billy Corgan was, and still is, notorious control freak, it was agreed that if he did most of James Iha's guitar parts and D'Arcy Wretsky's bass parts in the studio, he could nail it in fewer takes.
I always had the feeling that in Def. Maybe, Whats the story, Be here now needed to reinforce the volume of the bass and the kick, so everything would not sound so harshy. I love these CDs. :D
We can hear a bit of primitive pre- auto-tune going on with Liam's vocals on the word 'shine'. Owen used the Eventide DSP 4000 pitch quantiser on Liam's voice for Wonderwall (as he can be flat), they also had to tune him for Definitely Maybe too.
Yeah you can hear that pretty clear. Seems it stretched the time too. Tony Visconti used on heavily on the drums on Bowie’s “Low” album and it really did give the drums a time expansion feel. Tony said the same too. Expanding the time. I had one in a studio I worked at in the 90s but I never used it, tho had seen it used by coworkers.
That’s a time stretching. The old Akai S900 and S1000 samplers did that, it’d take a note and slice it into tiny pieces to extend or stretch the note. The Akai time stretch had a very distinctive sound and I think that’s what it is. These days you can stretch samples seamlessly.

Geeky fact- the handclaps were provided by Noel, Liam, Brian Cannon, Liam's gf at the time (forget her name- she was a model who I believe was later murdered by a partner) and a journalist called Paul Mathur who had access to the band in the early days and from who book I got this info. The book's called something like Oasis: There and then.
I've always wondered about the drums, the snare sounds fatter and much more powerful on the final record compared to the isolated track. It's a similar sound as on Acquiesce and C & A I think. So I believe the drums must have been further processed, some compression I guess for the snare to cut through all the guitars? Any thoughts James or anyone? Or am I just stating the obvious thing here.

I have a question. If Guigs never played bass in the studio hardly and didn’t even play bass again for this track why the hell was Noel and Owen giving Tony such a hard time about his drumming. It doesn’t make any sense.
I've always heard this high end whirr in the mix, towards the end of the track. It comes in at exactly 4:00 in the official studio track. Anyone else hear this?
Really cool video James. Something that gets overlooked with the mixing is the way the official mix butchered the snare drum making it sound really thin (possibly out of phase with the overheads or using some kind of imaging) and over compressed, whereas the snare in the stems sounds in phase and much better (possibly with some gated reverb that's typically added to Rock Band or Guitar Hero Stems). Track 8 is definitely Bonehead as you can hear the G is being played as a barre chord (Bonehead would actually play open chords in the chorus in later live versions which actually sounded a lot better..maybe Noel "allowed" him to ahaha). 6 and 7 are definitely Noel (you can hear open G chords here) and there's also an additional lead line by Noel mixed into track 7. Tony was the best drummer Oasis had by miles. Getting rid of him instantly eliminated the swing and attack of the band and resulted in slower, more plodding songs moving forward.Tony's drums on this are really solid and as with all songs from the Tony era, none of the drummers that came after were ever able to play the songs from this period with the right feel. I'd be curious to find out, given that this was all recorded to tape, how much editing of takes was done to Tony's drums. His live playing at Metro 1994 is outstanding for example and his timing is rock solid at that gig, so i'm not convinced that there were so many timing issues for the Some Might Say session. Maybe they would splice sections together as many bands did. Also, as was typical of several Oasis songs of this era, the original tape playback for the final mix was sped up making the song a few cents sharp from concert pitch. I reckon Owen Morris did this not just to tweak the tempo but also to change the formant of Liam's vocal just a tiny amount.
Hey mate, love the Oasis content, one can really see that you love the band…Listen, I always had this doubt, don’t know if someone has asked it before, on this track, at the outro (Around 4:04 to 4:12, using the original track’s duration as reference) on those two “You know what some might say”, on the version that was released on Guitar Hero: World Tour, you can hear that Liam’s vocals are different from what they sound on the actual studio version released on (What’s the Story) Morning Glory?, specifically on “Say”, do you know why? Like, is this a different vocal track from the one that was used on the studio recording? Is there a version with this vocal track like, a demo or something?
Love your videos really good insight into my favourite band oasis. Id love to see a video on Liams version of sad song... Also i may have some Information on a earlier recording session were i know the band did record in a studio north wales ( 5mins down the round from me) before the release of DM and the rumour is noel may have recorded sad song in this same session that liam recorded his version on the supersonic film. Nobody seems to know where liam recorded his take of sad song. Im 80% sure noel did recorded sad song in this session ( i may be off the mark). If you need more info about the studio i can provide it in a DM.
Great video! The only question I have is the intro. The status-quo stabs... Is there a delay effect on the guitar? I've tried to play it, but it never sounds right. I've seen different interpretations of it, live recordings but how did he get that sound? Cheers

Allan White plays pearl drums on many oasis videos but SOME MIGHT SAY on the recording of the album WTSMG he actually used a Ludwig Superclassic. Can you help about that?
Maybe I'm stating the obvious here, but Bonehead is definitely one of the reasons how they got that epic power-house sound. His guitar tracks sound massive isolated, let alone when the other tracks are mixed in. You can tell this in the live shows he's done with Liam recently.
No you're bang on, I very much agree. Bonehead's style was absolutely fundamental to the Oasis sound - you can hear the difference in Noel's solo stuff, the songwriting is good but the aggression is missing, and that's where Bonehead is needed I reckon
@JK Guitar as much as I thought Gem was a better guitarist them big overdriven barre chords Bondhead used to play were missed at times. I loved the Down By the River Gig where Bonehead played his original parts, Jay played Noels rhythm part and the lead guitarist (soz don’t know his name) played Noels lead lines. Massive sound!! 🙌🙌

This single for me is the greatest single Oasis ever released. Not only is the single great, but the three b-sides are simply unbeatable. All original compositions, all in the top 20 best Oasis songs and with an album cover that is interesting, eye-catching and instantly recognizable. Other singles may have had a stronger A-side, but no other Oasis single has three absolutely perfect B-sides. Totally deserving of being their first number 1.

When I listen to "Roll With It" , especially the intro drums, you instantly know why they hired him. You can instantly tell the difference of what a seasoned pro brings to a band. Isn't that a cowbell in the solo of that song? That's the first time a cowbell was ever used in an Oasis song and it fits perfectly and added gloriously to the song.

Fascinating video. This era of Oasis always had an undefinable quality to it, their wall of guitars sounded like no-one else. Many tried to copy it and failed spectacularly. The clean Noel parts were particularly great to hear. I like how such a dense sound was conjured up with multiple tracks yet the man Liam just needed one and a bit of reverb. Can’t engineer class. Great video 👍
Yeah - Liam's vocal style was, as far as I can tell, completely original. I'm not aware of anyone in the past with that style - the way he stood, everything, was designed to drag that sound up from his guts
To me, Bonehead was an integral part of the Oasis sound. Once he was gone, the band lost their signature "wall of guitars", and became more of a 60s sound-alike band. Ironically, the more they managed to sound like the Beatles, the less I like their music. That raw energy and freshness of the Definitely Maybe/Morning Glory and even Be Here Now era disappeared.
They only regained that early Oasis edge on Dig Out Your Soul, that album had a much heavier sound.

No 11, the sound effect , is either a guitar shoved through a VCS3, with an lfo-filter sweep set up on patch, or it's any synth with an input to its filter (e.g. moog minimoog or Arp 2600) , or even a pedal which allows you to sweep a sound (like a flanger) in any direction, with a built in filter circuit.

Yeah James great detail you went into this classic Oasis tune. Noel certainly loves his layers like a graphic designer on Photoshop. It was a pity that Liam couldn't hit the high notes of Some Might Say doing this live. As Oasis binned it from their live sets not long after. Which was a blow especially it been their 1st number one.
Have you ever thought of doing a video on how hard it is to sing Oasis songs live consistency like on a 3 to 6 month tour. I honestly believe singing Oasis songs day in, day out on tour would totally batter your singing vocals. As well the tempo that Liam sings in nowadays I think he cannot go mad like in his 20s or his singing vocals will just get shot big time. I think his doctor or a specialist had a wee word in his ear. That he has to sing in a more structure way these days.
Yeah you're right re singing - Liam stands the way he does on stage not to pose, but because that's how you have to stand to pull up that kind of tone from your guts (I'm a trained singing teacher as well as guitar) and if you do that without warming up or taking care of your vocal chords you will trash them. I just can't imagine what doing that week in week out from 93-98 did to Liam. But I really do reckon thats what made his voice change - he just bloody mangled it from never warming up, smoking, and pushing it too far. You remember when he started missing gigs because his voice was beginning to pack up?

Yeah, that's the bonus of having a producer like Owen Morris I guess - it was him who got them layering up their sound like this. On their earlier demos they did just lay it down exactly as they did live... and it wasn't a patch on this.
Whoever mixed the track REALLY must have liked the Tambourine part! It was heavily featured on most of the stems/tracks!

the last 15 seconds of the song has an awesome guitar strum to it. it is slightly heavier than the rest of the rhythm of the song but sounds so good

Cool, I may look into that, although the resources to really dig into the Stone Roses tracks are annoyingly really limited - they never released anything in any other formats so all you can hear is simply the finished songs and that's it. You never know though, something cool and new might come to light in the future where we get better access to their individual stems

Great video as always! This and Don’t Look Back in Anger were mixed at a slightly higher pitch (451Hz I think). Never really known the real reason for that, but definitely gives the songs a distinctive sound, no doubt.

Bass definitely sounds like Guigs. After hearing lots of isolated bass tracks played Noel there's a key difference between the two. Noel's playing is a bit more smooth sounding than Guigs and sounds less amateur-ish

You should remember this one is probably the 1st time that Liam pulled out with a sore throat. The night Oasis did like acoustic unplug at the Royal Albert Hall. I'm pretty sure they showed it live on the tele at the time. Liam was up in the balcony hiding but still drinking booze with a puff of a cigarette too. You could tell Noel wasn't impressed and I'm sure that night was went it built the confidence into Noel to sing more than one or two Oasis songs live. Yeah singing Oasis songs day in, day out must be a proper cutthroat business for a singer.

I have wondered - is this track slightly sped up, which is why it is in the key of E-Flat? I love Liam’s high vocals he hit in the choruses, but I don’t know if he actually hit them - if the actual recording was in a lower key (like they play it live in “D”, which is a typical Oasis key you’d expect)

I'd be inclined to say that tracks 6 and 7 sound more like Noel to me. The small inflections in his playing give it away (the A to Asus4 hammer on at the end of track 6 especially) Plus, they both have that raw JCM900 crunch sound that he used alot on the album. Great to hear the individual tracks though. Cheers!

Just found this vid. Really interesting. With Bone heads rhythm, track 5&6, it sounds to me to be the same take with the amp double mic'd with one off axis/centre,with track 7 as the distance mic. Could all be one take.
The "mad sound effect" is just a synthesiser of some sort. No idea what synth it would have been in 95, but to achieve that sound is pretty straightforward:
Turn the resonance on a filter up high enough that it starts making noise by itself, assign a low frequency oscillator to control the volume, adjust the speed of the the LFO so that it's in time with the song, slowly adjust the cutoff frequency of the filter over the course of the section of the song.
Getting the tempo right might be a bit tricky if the song isn't played to a click track, but apart from that it should take only a few minutes to create and record that sound

I think it's possible that Noel is the one who provides bass here. I've read long time ago that Guigsy was playing root notes only, and bass here is more complex than only roots.

Hahahahahahaha everyone is divided on the cover. I kinda like it... but not all that much. It's not Wonderwall or Don't Look Back In Anger, which captured the colours of the songs perfectly. This one... yeah its kinda cool but not outstanding cover-wise for me

Completely unrelated stumbled onto a band From my area, although I didn’t know they were from here when I was listening to them on iTunes! 😂 they have some brilliant songs kasama they are called check out the song deep water mate. Just when we were talking about the charts being pish at least there’s still some young bands out there, definitely worth a listen mate

Cheers Eddy! To be honest I think I'll always like the single version, because it's the version I've always known and loved. The demo is cool - and I bet Noel likes it because its the recording he first got to know! It's the full Liam-sung version for me tho

This is brilliant, it's amazing to know what actually goes into recording a song let alone an album. Why would Noel play the bass tracks though isn't that what guisgsy is there for how come he didn't do it for the album
His timing on the bass wasn't that great. Worked OK live but not quite good enough for recording
Cheers - yeah he was just too imprecise for alot of recording was Guigsy. As far as I'm aware, Noel played all bass parts on DM, around half of them on WTSMG, and Guigsy did them all on BHN
@@JamesHargreavesGuitar seems like a similar situation to the first two albums by The Smashing Pumpkins (who fairly recently did a joint headline tour with Noel, oddly enough).
While Billy Corgan was, and still is, notorious control freak, it was agreed that if he did most of James Iha's guitar parts and D'Arcy Wretsky's bass parts in the studio, he could nail it in fewer takes.
Sounds to me like that sounds effect has come from a synthesiser. 👍

We can hear a bit of primitive pre- auto-tune going on with Liam's vocals on the word 'shine'. Owen used the Eventide DSP 4000 pitch quantiser on Liam's voice for Wonderwall (as he can be flat), they also had to tune him for Definitely Maybe too.
Yeah you can hear that pretty clear. Seems it stretched the time too. Tony Visconti used on heavily on the drums on Bowie’s “Low” album and it really did give the drums a time expansion feel. Tony said the same too. Expanding the time. I had one in a studio I worked at in the 90s but I never used it, tho had seen it used by coworkers.

That’s a time stretching. The old Akai S900 and S1000 samplers did that, it’d take a note and slice it into tiny pieces to extend or stretch the note. The Akai time stretch had a very distinctive sound and I think that’s what it is. These days you can stretch samples seamlessly.

Geeky fact- the handclaps were provided by Noel, Liam, Brian Cannon, Liam's gf at the time (forget her name- she was a model who I believe was later murdered by a partner) and a journalist called Paul Mathur who had access to the band in the early days and from who book I got this info. The book's called something like Oasis: There and then.
Bonehead's choppy barre chords are the glue between the rhythm section and Noel and Liam's parts; perhaps the USP of their first number one?
I've always wondered about the drums, the snare sounds fatter and much more powerful on the final record compared to the isolated track. It's a similar sound as on Acquiesce and C & A I think. So I believe the drums must have been further processed, some compression I guess for the snare to cut through all the guitars? Any thoughts James or anyone? Or am I just stating the obvious thing here.

Really cool video James. Something that gets overlooked with the mixing is the way the official mix butchered the snare drum making it sound really thin (possibly out of phase with the overheads or using some kind of imaging) and over compressed, whereas the snare in the stems sounds in phase and much better (possibly with some gated reverb that's typically added to Rock Band or Guitar Hero Stems).
Track 8 is definitely Bonehead as you can hear the G is being played as a barre chord (Bonehead would actually play open chords in the chorus in later live versions which actually sounded a lot better..maybe Noel "allowed" him to ahaha). 6 and 7 are definitely Noel (you can hear open G chords here) and there's also an additional lead line by Noel mixed into track 7.
Tony was the best drummer Oasis had by miles. Getting rid of him instantly eliminated the swing and attack of the band and resulted in slower, more plodding songs moving forward.Tony's drums on this are really solid and as with all songs from the Tony era, none of the drummers that came after were ever able to play the songs from this period with the right feel. I'd be curious to find out, given that this was all recorded to tape, how much editing of takes was done to Tony's drums. His live playing at Metro 1994 is outstanding for example and his timing is rock solid at that gig, so i'm not convinced that there were so many timing issues for the Some Might Say session. Maybe they would splice sections together as many bands did.
Also, as was typical of several Oasis songs of this era, the original tape playback for the final mix was sped up making the song a few cents sharp from concert pitch. I reckon Owen Morris did this not just to tweak the tempo but also to change the formant of Liam's vocal just a tiny amount.
Hey mate, love the Oasis content, one can really see that you love the band…Listen, I always had this doubt, don’t know if someone has asked it before, on this track, at the outro (Around 4:04 to 4:12, using the original track’s duration as reference) on those two “You know what some might say”, on the version that was released on Guitar Hero: World Tour, you can hear that Liam’s vocals are different from what they sound on the actual studio version released on (What’s the Story) Morning Glory?, specifically on “Say”, do you know why? Like, is this a different vocal track from the one that was used on the studio recording? Is there a version with this vocal track like, a demo or something?

Information on a earlier recording session were i know the band did record in a studio north wales ( 5mins down the round from me)
before the release of DM
and the rumour is noel may have recorded sad song in this same session that liam recorded his version on the supersonic film. Nobody seems to know where liam recorded his take of sad song.
Im 80% sure noel did recorded sad song in this session ( i may be off the mark).
