I sang the version found on the sheet music, including a second verse about Leo Frank and a third verse about the Smith-Burnett Immigration Bill, which sought to choke off immigration by imposing a literacy test. Fascinating social history in respect of the way the lyricists were absolutely time- bound with regard to attitudes to countries/ rulers which flipped over the course of time- eg Germany/ Austria Good/Bad, then later reversed in WW2,now back again; America? Hmm,too soon to say?
