- This week we have a Ted Hood-designed Little Harbor 42 bluewater sailboat for sale. This bluewater sailboat has been rigged for short-handed sailing, and has dozens of thoughtful details that are indicative of Ted Hood's offshore racing experience. The fit/finish/aesthetics of this sailboat for sale is just delightful. Mind you, this might be a little pricier than some of our usual boats but even if this isn't your cup of tea... you might glean a few details that you could add to your own less expensive vessel.

I’m thankful that Captain Q and Randy keeps showing us all these wonderful boats.
I love this channel
Hats off to the owners for maintaining this yacht at this level.
You know it is serious business when the storage shed itself is spotless.
I don't think you are eating DM on this boat. So, one of the few episodes I wouldn't mind not seeing DM.
Thanks Cap Q and Ran-Day for keeping us entertained.
Happy thanksgiving, Rama! You are right about that boat shed… something to behold
"I don't think you are eating DM on this boat."
Agreed. More likely the imported French version, Dinté L' Amour.
@@harbourdogNL good one
I've been on the hard all my life but every Thursday I'm day dreaming and smooth sailing! Love the channel
The Q’ster and Randayyy working the holiday …… thankful for this channel!!!
Thankful for all the kind folks watching and keeping our fires stoked. Cheers to you!
Little Harbor is synonymous for High Quality sailing boats. Give a shout out to the designer and drafting engineers along with the craftsmanship in Portsmouth Rhode Island. Looked at one in the Early 90’s and No comparison to Swann. Quality is worth the money.
I absolutely love the movie references. They're always perfect. Great job Captain Randy!
Cap I just love the Herreshoff interiors. My wife and I looked at the other sister ship with teak interior and we agreed this was better. Funny story is my family back in the early 80s bought an Irwin 31 mainly because we knew that we could beat the local Catalina 30 fleet in Phrf. We were minutes away from buying a Sabre 30 but couldn't pull the trigger. In the mix was a Tartan 3000 a S&S design and a S2 9.1
The other boats we knew were lovely but the other aspects of the Irwin were a winner. Great construction,no. But we were only sailing on Lake Minnetonka!!
I'm surprised that these Little Harbors are commanding much higher prices than a Swan
Thanks for finding this one Capt.... It's absolutely stunning!... I'm in love with it.❤️
I just wish I could afford it...
She looks more like a 2019 with a 1990 style😁 Amazing the upkeep on her. Thank you guys and Happy Thanksgiving to all👍
I was thinking the same thing!
Your channel and welding/fabrication videos are the absolute best options for calming down my 3 month old daughter and keeping her fascinated and happy! Thank you for helping to help her volume manageable!
Beautiful boat! Thanks for the tour. Wishing the Captain, Randy, and your families a wonderful Thanksgiving Holiday!
Another beautiful example of Ted Hoods design and vision. Love the details. True craftsmanship.
😄 this is my face at every joke & witty commentary. These videos are for entertainment purposes. Sailboat brought me in the front door. I'm returning, repeat viewer, for the thrill of Capt Q & Randay bantering. Ho boy, a larger boat = more space for thoughtful details not seen on most sailboats.
Keep smiling
What a beauty! Thank you for sharing with us!
Incredible Ted Hood design ! Thanks for this video, always a great pleasure 👍
I was on that boat, they served Dinty Moore with shaved truffles......yum. Just kidding yes what a beautiful sailboat.
Happy Thanksgiving Capt’n and Ran-day! Your weekly videos are a blessing. They fuel my dreams. Sending warmest wishes to you and your families for a joyful holiday!
I am so glad that Randy got the right answer "sit at the wheel". haha
😂
Definitely in the top 5 of all boats you two have reviewed. Love this one. Really well maintained
Ohh…Ted Hood, fascinating, but you guys…I just love your charm!
I literally laughed out loud when Captain Q made "swing like a monkey" comment and the monkey clip popped up! 😂
Another sweet boat. Cheers to you.
After sailing that amazing yacht youd have the fittest finger in the harbour .
So few things that were less than perfect. I like the layout for long term use and making distance in comfort. No nods to wow look at the size of the head! This is certainly built for use. Perhaps my favorite yet. Love Firefly but this wins hands down!
Love you guys, your banter and your presentations of such interesting sailing boats. Very interesting and informative.
Another favorite from Capt. Q. A sleek single handed beauty.
Beauty of a boat! Thanks for sharing! 👍👍
THAT is an amazing yacht. The best one yet. Thank you Cap'n Q and Ran-day and Happy Thanksgiving to you and all of your loyal followers.
Thanks for posting and sharing. Very nice to see such a beautifully maintained vessel.
Wow! Just…..wow! How will you ever find a nicer boat than this? Great job, gentlemen!
Thank you gentlemen for a totally enjoyable Thanksgiving evening. What a beautiful boat. I hope your Thanksgiving was full of good food, great family and many stories of life on beautiful boats.
I really enjoy your tours Captain Q and Randy. Thank you and Merry Christmas to you and yours!
Little Harbors are truly gorgeous boats.
Randay, how about a special gear episode? I got a glimpse of your shoulder rig in the mirror on this one, but just a teaser. I'd love a breakdown on all your equipment (including the drone!). and how your production has evolved. I love your approach to the craft, you are one of my favorite videographers!
Oh man, the deck detail at the forward hatch: Rounded corners - very sweet detail. Not a fan of the white paint below decks - but I could live with it...... :D I'd give it a 32 oz Dinty Moore Owners Cup. So many well done details over really good bones.
Agreed regarding the white paint below, otherwise spectacular
By the looks of the building there's several nice boats being stored in it.. this boat is definitely a elegant and fancy example
Captain you are Great I love to admire those classic Boats
Thanks very much Francis! You have exemplary taste 😄
While not the boat for me and my wife this is an amazing vessel. The fit and finish is, I think, some of the best we've ever seen on the channel. The storage seems some of the most thoughtful if not the most abundant. Overall a tidy vessel that, I hope, provides the next owners a series of Bucket List Adventures...
Being able to see both boats side by side is really cool because they're so different. The red bottom seems like it would be much more comfortable in rough seas due to the lower drop angle, there's significantly more displacement then green bottom.
She is a beaut ! Nice find guys. Happy thanksgiving to both of you !
That is a magnificent boat and phenomenally maintained. Captain Q, did you notice Sea Dog blush when you said you can go anywhere in the world with this puppy ? LOL 😂. Happy Thanksgiving everyone.
I felt it
Captain Q that is a wonderful boat wow
Great video, wish you and Randal and your families a blessed Thanksgiving.
I like the hinckley and the Ted Hood as well. Hinckley is more for me but both are aft cockpits. The Hood is pretty.
Tiffany ready!! Thank you for sharing.
Wow. Really fine work and detail.
Incredible opportunity to have both boats side by side to compare the designs from Ted Hood. Great
What a boat! Thanks so much!
Nice boat! Hope you two and your families are having a great Thanksgiving with all the trimmings.
now this is a boat
Just wow... This was my favorite showing
The Hinckley 42 took me home to Seal Harbor and Southwest Harbor ME. Love the show
A bit late to this one, but what a gorgeous boat that I could almost live on. Unfortunately modifications for disabled me to live on it, would be a travesty to have done to this boat, as doing it justice, to me, means keeping it as close as possible to original which others can do and really enjoy it as is. Great to see this boat and have such a great tour around it. Best Wishes. Bob in Wales. 👍⛵️✨️✨️✨️
Happy Thanksgiving guys. Thank you for uploading on a holiday, perfect after meal chill out activity.
Thanks for watching and happy thanksgiving from both of us!
Another really fine boat. Best wishes on Thanksgiving. Thanks and take care.
I loved this boat too Captain.:65. So perfect.
Another of my dream boats!!!!❤
Happy Thanksgiving, Captain Q and Ran-day.
Thanks
Happy Thanksgiving !! Thank you for showing this beauty !!
Happy thanksgiving, Louis!
Happy Thanksgiving Captin Q and Randay
Happy Thanksgiving to you both. That was a very classy yacht!!
Still is 🤗
Immediate 65! Couldn't agree more, though it did qualify for the 1 point chart table bonus. Wonderful boat, thank you for sharing her with us.
That’s baked into the final algorithm 😉
Happy Thanksgiving Captain, Ran-Day, and Sea Dog!
Capt I'll take the Firefly although it is older, but being made of the special structural steel, it's much stronger & safer regardless of the new fancy things on Little Harbor.
That's my kind of boat , Beautiful !
What a gem. Wow. I'm sure it's already sold.
Happy Thanksgiving!
Capt' to you and the intrepid Ran-day!
Cheers Jeff
Happy thanksgiving to you too, jeff!
Spectacular!
Beautiful boat.
I just watched the 1997 Bruce Willis, Richard Gere movie "The Jakal" and he hid the 14mm heavy machine gun in the boom of the main sail furling mast rig on a Beneteau Oceanis 440, similar rig as this boat, and was still able to sail it single handed. I would think it would interfere with the sail operation. If I am right I learned it on your channel. Great boat and tour as always. Happy Thanksgiving.
Wowzers.. Thats a beaut!
I'll take your word for it! To Rich for My Blood! HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
I can only wish.
What a BEAUTY !! ❤️
She really is!
Wow 65 for score I to think this one is the best ,,thanks for your videos I try to catch you guys every week...
Thank you
Fantastic
Happy Thanksgiving to our former, troublesome colonies! We're thankful too. For the relative peace and quiet, since we parted ways ;)
We will always love you
The microphone is set close to his breathing; The man is sound but the setup make him sound having difficulties... he is fine and capable. I would trade place with him anyway! Thank you team for your efforts! 😏
Whew thanks for that insight I thought I just needed oxygen 😀
This is a beautiful yacht. These Little Harbors strike me as being on par with Morris and Hinckley.
How concerned should one be over the skeg hung rudder if going offshore? I think I'd at least want an easily implemented emergency rudder system. Maybe some pintles pre-mounted on the stern to accept a rudder assembly? I think I'd want something like that even on a full keel boat. Better to have and not need than need and not have. 😒
It’s beautiful and obviously very well built, but for all of the thoughtful, quality design features, I’m surprised this 1990 42’ sailboat has only one double berth and one head with no separate shower, especially considering there were other brands at that time that had similar size boats with 2 double berths and 1-2 heads (with separate shower) for a much cheaper price (although, the build quality wasn’t as good).
A very happy Thanksgiving to you both Captain Q and Ran Day. Beautiful workmanship here and well thought out. Now however I must go watch Breakfast at Tiffany one more time which will lead to Sabrina etc. Just the one concern I have is all that dependence on electric winches. But why worry,, it's not like I could afford her. Happy turkey trails.
Thank you Friar…. Happy thanksgiving to you as well. Just pick your tacks wisely and it won’t use the battery power 😉 sending good lotto vibes your way!
Thanksgiving from now on:
Alice's Restaurant and Cpt. Q 🤙
Great job on this review! Have you ever done a review on Sabre Sailboats? The quality of workmanship/craftsmanship is very similar to this sailboat. Cheers!
we keep looking for one but not many for sale within our reach
Oh sure ~. OK ~ I like the concept. A ~ "Stable Mate" ~ ??? ~. But Captain Q? ~. Isn't that an "equestrian" term? ~ Not a "nautical" term. ~ Seems to me. ~ So "right off the bat" (a baseball term) you've got me connected to two beautiful stallions in a stable on an Irish hillside. I'll tell ya. And all I intended to say was that I was off to the "Bodega" (convenience store term) to purchase "Lottery Tickets." Just never a dull moment for you guys. I'll tell ya. Thank you again for all that you do! ✨🙏✨
As a jazz enthusiast, I have to say: I just can’t get enough of the music. I’d be interested to know who chooses the music. Is it Capt. Q or Randall?
Randall. But CQ inspires him. Lol
Captain try putting the mike on your cap , love the show and the boat .
Lovely wish I could afford it
A very, very nice boat. Although it's not expensive a boats go, it is certainly out of my price range. However, Christmas is coming Captain. Will it fit in my stocking?? Keep the good stuff coming guys.
We like looking at the pricey ones sometimes to pull a few favorite details to think about including on more modest vessels. Cheers JL
I want this boat!
OMG, cost more than my farmette, but gorgeous. And it's got the center board I want.
Definitely need to come up with a replacement for the Dinty Moore. How about a spaghetti sauce? There’s lots of those, one may be willing to sponsor you.
Drooling over that nav station...and when was the last time you saw a head door that opens inward?
Good point. No…. great point !
What is the auto-steering like on a boat this nice?
Have you ever reviewed the big yellow yacht that we see in the b-roll footage? Interested from Cambridge UK.
We haven’t but we plan to… she’s the America’s Cup 12m yacht ‘Heritage’ which is available for charter in Newport, RI. Great idea!
6:30 Wow.
Very nice but also very expensive
Love this boat, do you still go out on your own boat?
AIREX and Divinycell are both PVC foam cores and essentially the same material from different manufacturers. Both products are made in a variety of densities that yield a range of compressive and sheer properties, plus other features like high temp resistance are available for autoclave cured composites. To say that using one vs the other in the hull and then the deck are "different core structures" isn't very accurate. If we knew what particular product 'flavors' were used then we would know if the builder was aiming for particular properties that would yield different performance characteristics. 5 lbs per cubic foot is the most common density used in marine structural applications and what most likely happened on this build is that used what brand was available and for the lowest cost during that particular phase of the build from the local supplier.
Excellent tips, Luke…. Thanks for taking the time to bring us up to speed… that’s great to know moving forward. Much appreciated and cheers from both of us
Kinda seems lowest cost wasn't a factor anywhere in that build. But one never knows...Thanks for the foam tech info !
@@charliemclaughlin2045 well, neither of those brands are really 'cheap', a 4x8 sheet of the foam core can cost as much as the same size sheet of plywood. Builders buy in bulk and we have business accounts with major suppliers so it costs less than what the public pays, but still... Anyway, AIREX and Divinycell are both top notch products. There may have been a specific reason for using different core brands between the hull and the deck but I honestly think it was just coincidence, what was in stock at the time it was needed.
Need to have a crew person just to keep up with the varnishing.
Many will dream to own [afford] and sail her.
