This song, this singer, do a whole lot of.things that music is supposed to do, just perfectly. Thanks to msEmmyLou, she has been helping to lessen the load, for many years, for many folk.
When I go, don't cry for me In my Father's arms I'll be The wounds this world left on my soul Will all be healed and I'll be whole Sun and moon will be replaced with the light of Jesus' face And I will not be ashamed for my Savior knows my name It don't matter where you bury me I'll be home and I'll be free It don't matter, anywhere I lay All my tears be washed away Gold and silver blind the eye Temporary riches lie Come and eat from Heaven's store Come and drink and thirst no more So weep not for me, my friend, when my time below does end For my life belongs to Him, who will raise the dead again It don't matter where you bury me I'll be home and I'll be free It don't matter, anywhere I lay All my tears be washed away All my tears be washed away
What a testament to the greatness of Julie Miller’s writing ability! So many varied versions of this great tune! Each one unique and all are fantastic!
Janna Overstreet Just found this song after hearing my niece was killed in a car accident yesterday, I was sorry to read about the loss of your brother, I lost my brother also several years ago, if you see this message I hope you are doing well although we never forget the loss I believe we carry those that we lose with us forever, stay safe, God bless. Mike from New Zealand.
Oh my, how good is this, not only Emmylou singing so beautifully but the woman who wrote the song, Julie Miller on backing vocals and her hubby Buddy on guitar. Classy stuff.
I grew up in the mountains of southwest Virginia. I want this song played at my grave side. I will be buried in the family cemetery on top of Redroot Ridge.
Another Emmy classic. Some of her music is beyond imagination. This is another. The tempo just gets better with each passing moment. The music intensifies through it all. Emmy really has created a brilliant piece of music.
That's Dave Matthews' drummer Brady Blade.....and Neville Brothers bassist Daryl Johnson....along with guitarist Buddy Miller they make up the trio Spyboy, Emmylou's Backup band
What a beautiful voice! 🎸💓 Lyrics: When I go don't cry for me In my father's arms I'll be The wounds this world left on my soul Will all be healed and I'll be whole Sun and moon will be replaced With the light of Jesus' face And I will not be ashamed For my savior knows my name It don't matter where you bury me I'll be home and I'll be free It don't matter where I lay All my tears be washed away Gold and silver blind the eye Temporary riches lie Come and eat from heaven's store Come and drink and thirst no more So weep not for me my friend When my time below does end For my life belongs to him Who will raise the dead again It don't matter where you bury me I'll be home and I'll be free It don't matter where I lay All my tears be washed away
Saw her with this same band in Toronto back in 95 or 96, and i still think they're one of the most amazing bands i've ever seen in concert... backing up a woman with the voice of a million angels.
Just read thru all of the comments and jeeez people, emmy lou singing and all you can comment on is the guy with no shirt, who by the way really rocked out the base on this song!
Such a beautiful song. Long ago, in a remote, lush Utah mountain valley, 120 American women, children, and unarmed men from a wagon train bound for California were slaughtered by local Mormon settlers. None were buried but were left for animal scavengers. The Mountain Meadows Massacre; please research it. The largest mass murder in American history until 9-11-2001. Chillingly, it also occurred on 9-11… 1857. I dedicate this song to their memory, remembered by few.
God knows, I love this woman and all her songs! But, spoken strictly for me, the cover version of the Hayde Blue Grass Orchestra is even better! It's divine !
Was just about to say the same thing! The singer in Hayde Bluegrass Orchestra beats Emmylou Harris hands down in this performance. In my opinion, of course.
1) this song is a heartbreaking otherworldly beautiful performance 2) all y'all going on about how "inappropriate" the shirtless hottie musicians are need new glasses
This concert was my introduction to Buddy and Julie Miller. Been a fan since. If you like this song check out the recent cover on YT by Hayde Bluegrass Orchestra.
Thank you dreadnaught ! Well said! Buddy Miller is the master! These sessions with Buddy,Brady Blades , and Darryl Johnson. Are unsurpassed by and other lineup. The Spy Boys are the best!!
+dave jazpersen yeah truely, The Spy Boys do the job, as they say, Darryl and Brian Blade, Brady's brother, reached Daniel Lanois and Trixie Whitley to form BlackDub. What happened to Brady?
to abeatlesfan101 and 5262janna.... you are very much in my prayers tonight. This song speaks such amazing truth. We are singing it at my church this Sunday and I will be singing it for you. May the peace that passes all understanding shine in your heart.
What's better than a catchy religious song in a minor key, when most of the people that Southern Gospel are offended by the black man on bass guitar!!!!!
I'm sure it was just as much Julie's decision not to sing on the verses. I'm a songwriter, I would want Emmy Lou to sing *all* verses if she performed one of my songs.
I love Emmy...but... If you think this is good, check out Hayde Bluegrass Orchestra's version. Rebekka Nilson is awesome!!!! And... They're from Norway. You can thank me later. Peace!

We once went to see Buddy & Julie. Quite disappointed when they didn't perform this. Perhaps it was because it was in godless NYC!
God broke the mold when he created this magnificent woman....

That’s so cool! I had no idea. Thank you for that info, I was curious! ❤️
And let's not forget Julie Miller.
Dave Mathews drummer is the iconic Carter Beauford, not Brady Blade. He has only played with Dave in the Dave Mathews and friends project.
An American treasure..every note of every song...seen her live many times..always gold.
Yes, I am from Sweden. This is so beautiful, deep and true. At the heart of the very best of the US.
What a beautiful voice! 🎸💓

Soothing song for a broken heart.I love this song.
