- In a recent act of protest against the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) scheme, anti-ULEZ activists in the London Borough of Sutton have blocked every camera in the area. The activists are expressing their dissatisfaction with the scheme, claiming that it is primarily a cash cow for the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, rather than a genuine effort to reduce pollution. Conservative MP for Sutton and Cheam, Paul Scully, joined the discussion to share his perspective on the issue.
Scully explained that the protest has been ongoing for months, with individuals expressing their opposition to the ULEZ expansion to outer London. The activists, known as "Blade Runners," have been temporarily blocking the cameras in Sutton to raise awareness and voice their concerns. Scully emphasized that while he does not condone criminal damage, he believes this form of protest is fair and necessary to draw attention to the problems with the ULEZ scheme.
One of the main grievances expressed by the activists is the placement of ULEZ cameras near important institutions like the Royal Marsden Hospital, which treats cancer patients from around the world. Scully criticized the Mayor for subjecting individuals visiting the hospital to fines as soon as they enter the ULEZ zone. He argued that this lack of consideration for vulnerable groups is disappointing and highlights the flaws in the scheme.

The upside is that people in Greater London are more likely to vote him out at the next election because a. they mostly vote Conservative, and b. they're most affected by ULEZ.

Khan is now learning a simple lesson. There are many more people in London against this and actively involved in immobilising them, than there are in his crew of workers and security goons.
No matter how much he spends on replacing, repairing or securing them, he will not be able to keep up with the incoming tide of "jobs to do" on the ULEZ infrastructure. At least, in terms of finance, but also in terms of PR and a personal realisation of the unpopularity of his 'ULEZ' policy, he will have to give way and give up.
Remember, Mayor Khan is the Chair of the 'C40 Cities' scheme, which is being mooted for more than a dozen cities world-wide, from New Zealand to Europe, London to South America. This is where all this nonsense has come from.....it is a global, 'get-rid of cars' policy.
The only problem being, he doesn't care that no-one likes him or his policies. He will continue doing things to us because he can. He is doing 'what is good for us', whether we want it or not.

ULEZ doesn't reduce pollution, in fact it increases it as the manufacture, running and disposal of EV's is very environmentally damaging- far worse than good olde ICE's. Not forgetting the horrendous fire risks posed by EV's temperamental lithium batteries.

16 years too late. They should have started protesting back in 2008 when the Low Emission Zone was introduced, and it wasn't by Khan. I worked for a courier contractor at that time, who was sweating in suspense if the Low Emission Zone was going to affect vans. They then announced that they had postponed it. And that the Low Emission Zone would only affect lorries, buses, and coaches for the time being.

One simple way to thwart the ULEZ cameras is to place NO TO ULEZ plates over your vehicles number plates and wear face masks so they cannot identify who is driving!

You could after dark, when there is less traffic on the roads. I'm fed up driving in second gear in a 15 mph traffic jam! Uses more petrol and drains my battery because it is much harder to charge it at constant slow speeds.
Cyclists get to cycle at 25 - 30 mph! They can be as much of a menace to pedestrians as cars, but don't trip the speed cameras

And you want to see how quick bailiffs are at your door for unpaid PCN. I'm currently in dispute with the crooks. Travelled to London from Watford. I paid a charge. Now telling me I had to pay low emissions charge and congestion charge. £12.50 and £17.50 for one journey. Praying bailiffs don't come again as it will end horribly. Someone will get hurt.
