  • @MenardiChan
    @MenardiChan Před 2 lety +46

    The most overrated card in my opinion is "Glide" from Demon Hunter. Back when it was announced everybody thought this card was going to single handedly destroy every single control deck in the game. Some even saying they were quitting if that card was printed as is. But turns out a "4 mana draw 4, but refuel your opponent bc this is usually your last card in your hand" was absolutely terrible against every single aggro deck and against value/control decks (that basically were non existant already) it didn't do anything because it came down at a point where your opponent already played a bunch of their cards. So yeah, I think Glide was the absolute most overrated card ever. Hyped to superlative only to never see much play because it sucked against aggro.

    • @LungDrago
      @LungDrago Před 2 lety +1

      Glide wasn't a bad effect and there were decks that would've liked the card. The problem with Glide I think is the fact it's an outcast card. Slower DH decks hate outcast as cards get stuck easier in their hands and they can't fire off the outcast effect reliably. Without outcast, Glide is too slow for 4 mana and doesn't even do what you want most of the time - disrupt your opponent.
      In the end, Glide was most relevant in DH Quest decks.

    • @morgoth4486
      @morgoth4486 Před 2 lety +4

      now your comment doesn't make sense, because we know that glide was a really good card in every questline-based demon hunter deck. card can't be bad if it creates powerful synergies and decks using that card were several times nerfed (ilgynoth, brute, moarg)

    The discard deck was actually pretty good back in the day. Maybe not an s-tier unstoppable deck like quest warlock, day one Demon Hunter, etc...
    ...but it was surprisingly good if you knew how to pilot it - once all the discard synergy pieces were released into the game over time.
    You had a bunch of cards that went into play when discarded or put out a body when discarded; there was recursion to some extent; and once you actually managed to get the portal out... the game was pretty much over against most decks.
    I was super skeptical of that deck and wanted to try it for fun way back in 2015 or whatever. The first iteration was awful. But then it got a few extra pieces and was actually pretty consistent.

I remember quite good how Queen Carnassa or Barnabus were actually very strong decks with a few gimmicks or that the discard quest was quite fun because the idea of the classes back then was more railroaded , smorc Ranger was super common or discardlock had good support. Discolock was far better without the quest than with it. Barnabus was purely meme, it folded to all the aggressive strategies at the time, without being able to deal with the really big decks. It's OP to know what enemies have in hand if you are playing against some control decks. In tournaments, you already know what opp have in the deck to remove almost all value of these cards.

      Actually don't think it's that good to know what the opponent has in hand in Hearthstone. If you are playing lets say Magic, then that sort of a card could single handedly win you the game, but HS is much simpler game, so it doesn't even affect your decision making much. The decks that can utilize hand knowledge the most are agro decks, but those decks can't afford to pay for the knowledge...

    While this is a good retrospective, it ignores an important factor - supporting cards. A card can be great but just not have the support it needs to work. Best example of this is Drakonid operative. The card is objectively good, but the other dragon priest cards were weak so the deck just didn't work. And I think this is true of several cards you mentioned. Revenge of the wild would have been very good in Classic. I'll be honest. Madame Lazuli being so shockingly bad is still surprising. Discover a card has always been close to as good as drawing a card (maybe worth drawing .75 cards or so). It makes sense, then, that discovering a card out of a pool of cards that people actively chose to put in there deck should be a lot better. Which should mean that Madame Lazuli is a 3 mana 3/2 draw a card that doesn't push you into fatigue, and on top of that, you also get some nifty information, which is a good card. It turns out though, that discovering a card from your opponents hand actually tends to be worse than discovering a random card. This seems very counterintuitive, but really what tends to happen is that in match ups where you really want to discover answers (the aggro ones), there deck is full of proactive threats and cards that make creatures better (which you don't want), and in match ups where you want to discover proactive threats (the control match ups) you are far more likely to discover answers (which you probably don't want). This also doesn't even take into consideration all the times your opponent has less than 3 cards in hand, which also makes Lazuli much worse.

      The fact madame Lazuli was bad shows how much this game has a really limited player interaction. Player just play whatever they have on theirs cookie clicker deck and barely make any decision what so ever. Having information about 3 cards of your opponent should be a huge deal, but it isn't cause who cares, you're going to do your thing and your opponent either does his own thing but has it sooner or has the perfect answers to destroy your gimmick and you ff. that it. I'm still surprised i didn't find any video about a man coding a bot and made every move the bot told him to and reach legend in a matter of days.

    Dragon Consort was the main reason for Dragon Paladin to be a thing. It was a great card and not overrated. It got powercrept over time but when it first released it was a good card.
    Lazul is also a good card, 3 mana 3/2 discover a card would be good enough anyway. I don't think she was ever considered broken or anything and she saw play if priest saw play.
    Looking at the overrated cards I think Varian is the number one. Everyone thought that would be too strong.

    The guy who downplayed Dr. Boom saying "he's no Troggzor" really isn't ever going to live that down. I don't even remember his name but I remember him saying that line.
    Also Jungle Giants was very mediocre on ladder but I remember it seeing substantial tournament use, due it being used often in "easy big, easy druid" decks. Doesn't matter if it sucks against 60% of the meta when you only need one win and can predict which deck you'll face.

    The issue with the marsh queen was not the reward, but skipping turn 1 as an deck with a lpt of 1 drops.. for getting a reward that comes turn 5 or later (a face hunter that used his turn 1 would have decided the game by then)

    Jungle Giants was fun to play. Not the most powerful quest that's obvious but fun regardless
    The beauty of this deck is to have a lot of 5 atk minions between 3 and 6 mana (and until Kobold and Catacombs you have those options if you search) cost and the fact that deathrattle when it summons a 5 atk minion count in the quest. Imagine how funny it was to combo that with both Cenarius and N'Zoth, ultimate infestation and you have a difficult deck to play but consistent once you made the adjustments. I still agree with your take : it's hard to pull off but for me that was the beauty of quest lines back in Un goro

    Cho'gall was thought to be insane. Ended up being unplayable. Just didn't work with a late-game Warlock deck - it had anti-synergy with stuff like Hellfire and Twisting Nether, and even playing a 7 drop into something like Siphon where you had to lose health late game wasn't worth just playing Siphon alone and something else cheap.
    Managerie Warden also looked completely broken when it was revealed. Everyone expected Beast Druid would be Tier 1 because of it. It wasn't good.

    while i think most of the points of this video are spot on i kinda disagree on 2 minor things:1) frizz kindleroost turned to be a staple in dragon druid wich was a solid t2 deck wich makes it y overrated but not as the other cards mentioned here 2) dragon consort was hyped insanely because the community assumed we would have gotten other dragon paladin cards since paladin wasnt on a good spot in the metagame(similar situation to when purify came out)in fact as soon as the other cards got revealed the hype died for paladin so dragon consort got overrated but only till all the pala cards got revealed and we saw no other dragon

    I don't know, man... You say that Lazul and Chameleos are overrated, but their strength depends on skill level. If you are an insane machine level god hearthstone player and you can deduce what cards your opponent has in hand, the value of those drops drastically. I wasn't one, and I really put the extra information to good use at the time. They got quickly outclassed by other cards, but for a short while they were DEFINITELY worth it.
