As a boy, I remember visiting Lake Erie and seeing lots and lots of pollution. The Cuyahoga River actually caught on fire. 50 years later. The water looks almost pristine. One of the byproducts of zebra mussles is their ability to filtrate water. Especially when they do it in such mass quantities.

My son is a parasitologist employed as a researcher into vector (carriers of disease) potential the Animal & Plant Health Agency (APHA), UK., but he has worked on the problem around the world including his doctorate into Tse-Tse flies. Other serious threats you don't mention are the transmission of viruses and parasites through mosquito borne vectors in migratory bird populations; the arrival of invasive mosquito vectors (e.g., in the US alone, Aedes albopictus (Asian Tiger Mosquito) & Aedes notoscriptus (the Australian Backyard Mosquito)); the spread of parasites such as Dog Heart Worm into native wild animals (Coyotes, foxes, otters) now rampant in the US; the spread of arbovirus with zoonotic potential (transmission from animals to humans) causative of hemorrhagic illness, e.g., Japanese encephalitis, Ebola. It's very (VERY) scary and there's a HUGE war going on around the world led by scientists, to combat this. It's worth a completely separate video.

Sadly we have others seeking what seems dangerous....
      Natural "viruses" cannot be patented...
There are many patents for things that have been moneyed with:
      AIDS
      ZIKA
      EBOLA
      SARS-COVID
      C-19
      MARBERGS

Everything you said is very TRUE! but thankfully we are more sanitary here in the states and the spread of locally transmitted mosquito borne illness is not a significant issue. The real issue is when people travel to different countries such as in Africa, the Caribbean, and Latin America. They then return infected and risk getting bitten and spreading the disease. I work for an environmental Agency in the mosquito control division. We deal with this almost on a daily basis.

I think it's because the eggs cannot hatch underwater, because the eggs require to be outside of the water to successfully hatch. I think it's a just in case precaution, like if there were some that ultimately, didn't get that crushed, or not crushed at all, they wouldn't hatch anyway, because they'd be underwater. Essentially, drowning.

I lived in New Jersey for about 14 years from 94 to 2008. Never saw a single spotted lantern fly when I lived there. When I finally returned to New Jersey for training in a new job I landed a few years ago, I immediately noticed them flying around and infesting nearby trees in the area. Didn't know what they were at the time and actually asked the people in the building what they were and where they came from. It's amazing how fast these menaces can go from being virtually unknown to widely known. At first glance, you might think they look unique and nice...until you see the swarms that cover trees, which look downright horrifying.

I had 2 huge ones in my aquarium. Hey Steve 👋 iliked the video but can you try to interact with your viewers, more than just asking for likes. I have a video suggestion. The family cichlidae, I suggest you fall down the rabbit hole s bit and you'll be surprised on the diversity of all the different species and their strict pecking order. I think you'll find yourself quite ingested in how smart some of them can be. Thank you for your videos!

At the cost of the eco system. Swimming pools are clear with little or no waterborne plants or wildlife. Rivers and lakes have tons of water plants and wildlife which is the reason they are not clear. If you can stand on dry land and clearly see the bottom of a river or lake, then that water usually has no ecosystem except for what cleared up the water.

Isn't it a shame how we can mess up our own planet that we live on. I would cringe just thinking of what would happen to the great lakes if any of the carp species were to invade that system. They are at the doorstep right now so to speak. Here we're trying to find ways to live and make habitable the planet Mars. Come on guys we haven't completely devastated this planet yet. Just Sayin'.
