First minute in the ring i was toast (literally from him burning me to death). Reached level 99 and went back. HE STILL BEAT MY ASS INTO THE SAND.

@@nnightkingj I think you mean 100. Even a lvl 100 can still lose. the 2nd chance ability is the key factor which is only availble as early as 100 depending on the growth chart you chose.

Guard is useless since countering leaves you open. All you need is a dodge roll for invincibility, and that's it. You can't lose if you don't get hit.
The moment you saw that beautiful long white-haired swordsman... The moment you heard "One-Winged Angel" playing in the background... You know... You were not ready for this! You were gonna die!
When I played this for the first time I saw sephiroth appear i put the controller down and turned off the console and reevaluated my choices and attempted the fight only to play another game a couple seconds later
I love how the Platinum Match becomes available long before you beat all of the tournaments, and it's shown as ??????? so you don't know what it is, which only baits you into checking by trying it. The end result is you fight freaking Sephiroth probably about 20 levels lower than you should be without half the abilities pretty much required to fight him. Not that the guy is easy even at level 99 but the developers were definitely setting a player up to fail first fight without foreknowledge.

It's fine imo. The first few seconds its like your brain needs a moment to proccess exactly who is standing before you, like a deer in headlights. Then the first few notes of One Winged Angel snap you back into reality, _gently_ letting you know that your anus is about to become masamune sized.
Ok story time:I played kingdom hearts 1 around when kingdom hearts re-chain of memories came out and had no idea about a bunch of it, I got addicted to the tournaments in Olympus Coliseum and had thought I done them all until I unlocked platinum on normal difficulty ((I think the difficulty was part of kingdom hearts 1 i don’t remember)) just to be clear I have not played a single Final fantasy game up to this point but I knew some of the characters aka Cloud Auron Tifa ETC that including sephiroth I barely know anything about him except that he was crazy strong and his theme “one winged angel” so basically I was playing and got to his stage and I had absolutely no idea who he was until...his theme kicked in I went bonkers basically I was killed in like one hit I couldn’t hit him once and he will easily go down is the hardest boss I have ever thought in any game ever...and hen I played a few final fantasy games and kingdom hearts 2 came out I once again got screwed over immediately the moment I fought sephiroth in clouds story to this day I have not beat any sephiroth in any kingdom hearts game just be clear I can’t really explain my reaction so I’m just going to say that somebody had to come down and check on me because they thought I had a heart attack

Honestly Sephiroth in KH1 is probably the only bonus boss in the Kingdom Hearts series I would consider genuinely hard because he's a fair challenge. The bonus bosses just get cheaper and cheaper with each passing game which if they didn't have this cheapness they'd be far easier than Sephiroth. Like Lingering Will is only difficult at all because 90% of the time he has this invincibility shield that prevents you from actually being able to damage him at all for the vast majority of the fight so you have to figure out the moments where his invincibility shield isn't there so you can actually hit him. All the while you're trying to block or avoid these 2 to 3 hit kill attacks constantly.

Sephiroth gets used a lot because he's far more iconic than nearly any other video game villain out there, even other ones from Final Fantasy. I mean, even if it has short reach, it doesn't technically offer you any 'penalties' in the long run. It doesn't reduce MP or have weak power. Plus, it has good recoil and a good crit rate. So there are a LOT worse weapons these guys could be using at this point in the game. Obviously there are even BETTER options than DR, but at least when talking about perspective and the level of game progress, you could do a lot worse than DR. 🤷♂️

Yeah, even at Lv. 99, WITH the Ultima Weapon Keyblade equipped (which itself is hard to even obtain) you will only just BARELY defeat Seph.
